    Tomatojuice,

I see my Oncologist on Monday and have my masectomy and expander scheduled for Tuesday. I'm assuming my chemo treatment will be outlined then. Last week I met with my Radiation oncologist who thought I'ld need 5-6 weeks of radiation after Chemo. I'll watch the site to see how we're all progressing with our treatments.

Roxi: I had unilateral mast with expander reconstruction on 3/19, and I know some women have a lot of pain, but I honestly can say that it has not been nearly as difficult or painful as I expected. Of course, I get my first fill on Wednesday, so I'll let you know how that goes. Had my first chemo on April 9 (Taxol/Carboplatin/Herceptin), and that went well so far, also. 3-5 days of "yucky" and achy from the Neulasta shot, then felt fine.

Let us know your treatment plan after meeting with your onc tomorrow.

Well I just got home from my mastectomy and expander insert in my right breast. I stayed over one night. The plastic surgeon also gave me a lift and nipple reduction on the left breast. Other than the pressure, the pain is not so bad. My oncologist has recommended I participate in clinical trial S0221 if interested. My treatment plan sounds pretty similar to yours but I'm not sure if I want to start my chemo treatments just yet. We have an extended family vacation for June and the Doc said I didn't need to start right away. I'm still pretty unsure though since its a grade 3. I can't believe that you and tomatojuice have such similar diagnosis. The chemo sounded like it takes four hours every ten days. He doesn't want to outline my plan for a few weeks. It sounds like I'll have 8 treatments of chemo followed by radiation. My tram flap can't be done for 9-12 months after the radiation. He wants to be sure the tissue has healed and not damaged in any way.

Talk to you ladies soon. Keep me posted on your treatments.

Hi Roxi - Glad you're home and resting after surgery. My PS is doing the lift on the other side when he does the exchange surgery, but I'm getting an implant, not doing a flap. Got my first fill today - could hardly fill the needle, and a little tightness, but certainly no pain. He's only doing 25 cc's at a time, so it'll take awhile, but shouldn't be as uncomfortable.

Is clinical trial SO221 the vaccine? I'm going to ask my oncologist about that on Tuesday when I have chemo #2. I go 6 x every 3 weeks. So far so good with the chemo - a few side effects for about 4 days after, then I've felt fine since. Losing some hair, but lots is still in. I started wearing my wig to work yesterday - the high school kids were great - very complimentary and sweet.

Hard decision about the vacation - I'm sure your oncologist is right that it's OK to delay treatment, but I know the feeling of wanting to get going with grade 3 HER+.

Rest easy - I was lucky to be a "good healer" (per both surgeons) - hope you are too.

    Sue,

The clinical trial basically uses the same meds for breast cancer but at different increments and different allotments. They are also trying some of the meds in take home, do it yourself injections. Some are also available in pill form. Search online, the trial popped up in Google. Since your're a few weeks ahead of me with treatment, I hope you don't mind me asking alot of questions. I love my team of doctors but still I find myself quite scared about the unknown and sometimes the drs. tend to talk in lingo I just don't understand. I know they do this tuff on a daily basis, but it's so overwhelming sometimes. Thanks for all the info...

    Hey Roxi -

Any time you have a question, ask. I'll do my best to answer, either here or PM me.

Hope you're doing well. I got myself hurting a few times when I tried to do too much - the dishes will get washed eventually, the laundry will get done, the dust won't kill anybody! Take it easy!

    Sue
