And from where do you think this "change" is going to come? Right out of our pockets.

And the war isn't coming out of our pockets? Well, it isn't yet, but at some point all the money we've borrowed from china to pay for the war is going to come due. I'd rather have seen that money go toward education and health care than a senseless war, not to mention all the soldiers who were killed and maimed for a war based on at best faulty intelligence and at worst a lie while Afghanistan and Osama bin forgotten.

Out of our pockets? I don't think so. When the Democrats are in office, the deficit is much less. Then for a few years the Republicans run the show, and we are trillions in debt. And if McCain wins, we will go further into debt--he can't run a war on a deficity--so it will be more borrowing from China. If that continues, they will soon "own" us, and we can all be working for a few cents an hour that the American corporations pay to Chinese labor--here we go again--slave labor! And all for the bloody capitalists to pay their CEOs over the top salaries and bonuses.

I was thinking about pay gaps...Grace, I am assuming you had a fairly decent position, what was the gap between you and a secretary or you and a janitor? Just curious.
When I was working the gap between my salary and the lowest dollar wage earner was significient yet I know the people in those positions could not do my job, which btw I worked up too, was not given and did not start at the top. So where does one draw the line?

been away and no computer access for several days--have tried to read back through the threads and am overwhelmed by the volume of posts...
so, my question is--and it may be redundant and may have been hashed out, but I've missed it...
who all is waiting to cast their pres vote basis the running mate choice for VEEP?
I am! I am! Many months ago, I had such excitement for this election...now, I am getting a tad bit nauseated by it all...
I am still "on the fence"...a long time ago someone got mouthy with me because they didn't know WHO I was supporting--well, my jury is still out!
Alaska Deb had a post on one of these political threads that I thought said it all! When I can find it again, I will send her a PM and tell her "kudos"!!!
I remain totally fascinated by the thought processes and information presented on the political threads. The side issues and digs taken as people express their views and life experiences--every post I read makes me think long and hard, and re-think some of my own beliefs...I thank you all for expressing your heartfelt life philosophies

...keep the dialogue flowing!!!
hugggssssss!!!

Paulette,
Actually the custodians and gardeners where I worked made about the same wages as some of us in administrative positions. The big difference was comparing the faculty & those that were in "service" positions--if you didn't teach you were in service positions. Each belonged to a union, and the raises were always the same percentage for both unions--it's just that the salaries were higher for faculty so their raises were higher! Administrative positions that required PhD--like President, VPs, Deans, etc.--were compensated based on their yearly "outcomes"--much like an "award" for a job well-done. In addition, they were evaluated by their peers and those that worked under them--supposedly anonymously--but of course, they always found out who gave them a bad review and some went into revenge mode--really practicing retribution to the max! I never had that experience.
Personally, I see how hard the trades employees work, and they are out in all kinds of weather doing hard physical work. I believe they should be paid as much or more than administrative positions. What they do keeps the college running technologically and environmentally. Students keep coming because the grounds look great, the power is on, and all the equipment we need to do our jobs is working so we can serve the students. JMHO
