Thanks, Newter! I actually found myself considering donating 2 of my 3 wigs (1 is waaaaay worn!) and this is HUGE for me! Since chemo, I've been terrified of "letting them go" because I, superstitiously, felt that that would jinx me and trigger more cancer. I felt the same way about having my port removed and simply waited until I was ready. And one day, 8 months after chemo ended, it felt right. Now, ditching the wigs feels just as right.

They're really beautiful and I hope that they will lift the spirits of a sister!

    Hi Marin,

I felt the same way about being superstitious but I told myself that if I ever need a wig again, I will be buying a new one anyway.

It felt really good to ship 4 wigs to Nan.  I had 3 and my MIL had 1.

Hopefully someone will be able to get some use out of them and save money.

If you have long hair you can also donate it to be made into wigs for cancer patients. Especially for children with cancer. Something to think about if you are at the before losing your hair stage.

    thanks Newter.

I actually mailed mine off to someone before they started their chemo, this past winter. I only had one...and it felt good to give it away!

What do you all mail the wigs in? I have two and am afraid that if I use a large mailer envelope, they'll get crushed and will lose the intended style.

I gave my wig and all scarves and hats to my "wig and bra lady" here in my area.  She passed them all along to women whose insurance did not cover these items.  They were very grateful.

    Marin,

My wigs were in little shoe boxes and I put them all (I had 4, one was MILs) inside a bigger box.  Save your receipts from the post office for taxes, plus Nan will send a receipt too.

Thanks, Newter. I bought some mailing boxes at walmart over the weekend and will try to get to the PO to mail them tomorrow. I'm also throwing out the one that I wore to death. It's ratty and has some singing on some of the strands from opening the oven door while wearing it.

This feels weird to me....getting rid of my wigs. It feels weird, but liberating as well!

Jdash, let me know what you find out about starting one in NYC. I am in NJ, would love to start one here. I did not lose all my hair, so I don't have any wigs to give. Have a good day ladies!

    Hi,

I am in NJ and looking to buy a 'natural' looking wig. It is so hard to get a wig in my hair color. Can anyone recommend a good place? I live in Central NJ. Starting Chemo at the end of this month.

    Thanks,

    Desi.

    Hi Everyone,

Thanks to those of you who have donated wigs and those who will donate their gently used wigs.

To date I have about 10 wigs but can always use more. I have been recently trained as a " Reach to Recovery" volunteer through the local ACS.  I felt that would put me in touch with women in need of emotional support and I could relate my experiences to them , plus being able to get the word out on the organization.

I will be at the local relay for life in my area this weekend walking as a survivor and passing out information on the Wigs for Love.

Remember any of you that have a local event, Relay for life or walks etc. I will be glad to post them on the wigs for life calander just pm me.

Thanks so much for donation of a wig from a family member of a bc sister who lost her battle 2yrs ago.  Her daughter saw our post on this site and told me it took her this long to be able to "do something with her mom's wig"  It is a beautiful medium blonde , shoulder lenght, cute cut that her mom only wore twice.  I was glad that our organization was able to help her move on and have some closure.

Thanks again for all of you who help me by spreading the word and donating .

    Have a wonderful day Smile

I just received 5 beautiful wigs from a person named Oliva from Chicago , not sure if she is here on the boards with us or a friend of someone on the boards here at any rate many thanks to Oliva.

I am sure that a new or existing  bc sister will be very appreciative of your generosity.

    God Bless,

    Nan
