Just another thing I saw on Crazy Sexy Cancer.  I have a detox book and it explains rebounding (jumping on a trampoline or mini trampoline) as the single best exercise on the planet.  It is supposed to squeeze the waste matter from our cells.  It is also supposed to support the lymphatic system by internally massaging the lymph drainage points and carry the lymph fluid through the body more efficiently.

I'm thinking about getting a mini for the living room.  It will also serve and an energy reliever for my 2 kidsLaughing  I found one online at walmart for $29.99 but I think before I pay for shipping and handling i'll check at Play It Again Sports.

    Anyone else rebound??

My gym has one.  And it's fun.  Make sure you get the bar to hold on to.   It's quite a workout in a short time.  You'll want to do this without a too tight bra on so you get the lymph juices moving around.

the Lymph board had a discussion about using the rebounder to help reduce lymphodemia symptoms.

I'm all for fun in a workout.  So what is a rebounder exactly?  I might be able to carve out $30 somewhere to get one if I end up feeling better as a result.

I got a rebounder recently on sale at Big 5 and I love it.  It gives quite the workout and I really feel it after a very short amount of time.  It's fun and easy.

althea, It is a mini trampoline.  It is GREAT for your lymphatic system.  I also have the Pilates/yoga ball and you can bounce on it to stimulate your lymphs too.  Best wishes

Ok ladies, you inspired me.  I purchased a 'body burner' yesterday.  Is this what you're talking about?

link to a body burner order page

Hope that worked.  I'm trying to use those little link icons.  A quick google will work also, if my link doesn't.

Does anyone know if you have mets to lymph nodes and bones will the rebounding spread the cancer more throughout the body? This may be a dumb question, but I needed to ask!

I am taking Aromasin that has stopped my skin mets and bone spine bone pain, as well as reduced my tumor markers so we are assuming it is working.

MJ, you sure ask an important question.  My wishful thinking says the exercise would be good for you, but my wishful thinking also wanted such a good response to chemo that I wouldn't need any further treatment.  That sure didn't happen.  I wonder who would know that answer.

I assembled my body burner yesterday and jumped on it just a few times.  Today has been the worst day I've had in weeks!  Fatigue, achy bones.  I am not encouraged.

I also felt awful after I jumped on my rebounder the first time.  Now, I just jump for only a few minutes and don't have my feet leave the trampoline.  I'll work up to doing longer and higher workouts.

Yes, yes. take it easy at first, it's really moving your blood around. you can bounce and get health benefit without even jumping, just keep your feet on the surface and bounce. AND make sure you have a very supportive bra, if you have any boob, esp after rads, like me. 5 min at a time is plenty to start.

I used to teach a class that incorporated the rebounder. It's good cardio if you do it long enough to get your heart rate up and stay up. I've never heard of its effects on the lymphatic system and am pleasantly surprised. As others have said, it can be fun, especially if you use it as one cardio "station" among others (like you do some step, some treadmill, some rebounding and some ellyptical or bike). One word of caution though, especially if you'll be letting children use it. It can be as dangerous as a regular trampoline in that losing your balance when in air can send you flying off to crack your head. Also, get too enthusiastic and you could get an ankle caught in the rim. I always spotted the students on the rebounder.

My rebounder came with a balance bar. It's by Nedak. However Al Carter's "soft bounce" looks pretty good. I bought it for my mom 2 and a half years ago, and she hasn't tried it. My daughter and I love it. Mom has lymphatic obstruction in her lungs due to taxotere pulmonary toxicity. So I wonder if it's even safe for her to use.

I just watched an interview with Marilu Henner who just wrote a book Wear Your Life Well.  She mentioned rebounding and how jumping on one for just two minutes a day improves health because it stimulates production of white blood cells.  So, if she's right, I would think MJ would benefit from rebounding.

I haven't read any of Henner's books.  Just a quick glance tells me she is interested in healthy living.  She doesn't eat meat, dairy or sugar, and she mentioned a husband in remission with cancer.  I'll add her to my list of things to read.  In the meantime, I wonder if anyone here has read any of her books?  I like her so far, because 2 minutes is about all I can take of that rebounder.  :)

There is a whole thread on rebounding over at Kris Carr's Crazy Sexy Life site (she's pretty inspiring and the community is great if you are interested in alternative healing) if you want to read what a whole bunch of others say about them:

so far, i am really loving mine...the key is putting on music that makes you happy.

pam, the place where I get my superfood says the same thing about milk, that it's great food, if you're a cow!  LOL  Never before in my life have I ever contemplated giving up dairy, but it's at least on my list of considerations now.  Henner also mentioned skin brushing in the interview, another activity recommended by the place I get my superfood.  I'll be interested to see what's in her bibliographies.

Thanks for the link twirlgirl.  I also saw the oprah show where she interviewed kris carr.  I'll definitely check it out.  For today I'm baking a cake for my cat's birthday tomorrow.  LOL  Actually, I have a shaker cookbook with a recipe I really want to try.  Filled with dairy and eggs, of course, but I love to bake, and I'm just so glad to FEEL like myself again and do things I enjoy.

althea...all things in moderation is ok, and if you use organic eggs and dairy, it's still part of a healthy diet. I am sure you don't eat cake all day, every day. What is life without a little cake?

I don't drink milk, but do use yogurt and think it's very good for you. I am starting to get organic raw goat milk from a local farm and make my own yogurt, packed with probiotics...great for the immune system.

I just had some colon hydrotherapy and she was explaining the ways the body can eliminate toxins...one is through our skin. Which is why sweating is important...but also skin brushing. I did it a couple of times a week through rads, but have gotten lazy. I need to start again. It does feel really good!

The rebounding is going better all the time. I feel like my tone is improving, bit by bit. and it's fun! I'll be thrilled if this flab turns into muscle!

As soon as I was dx with bc, my daughter bought me a mini-trampoline (about 4' across with a handle for balance) and I have used it for the past 5 years.  One gal my daughter knows who was dx with bc was told by an MD Anderson consultant to do two things immediately: 1. get a rebounder and start gentle bouncing (your feet do not have to clear the mat) for 15 minutes every day.  2. Then to get a juicer and start juicing raw fruits and veggies.  The rebounding is important because the only way the lymph circulates is the motion of the body from the top down.  The bouncing forces the lymph through the system and greatly enhances this critical element of the immune system.  One study showed that bouncing for 2 1/2 min. an hour during the day actually shrinks tumors.  It also promotes regularity.  I am grateful for this easy exercise that really helps.

    About the lymph moving cancer...

If you have cancer (I do) and if you are doing standard treatments...how do you think your body is moving out so called dead or dieing cancer cells out of your body.  Through the lymph system.  My thought was let's move the cells out of my body faster before they have time to attach too some place I don't want them to go. I can't use a rebounder anymore because of neuopathy so I bounce on a exercise ball setting down.

Twirlgirl, you are right! You have to bounce to music! Hairspray! Or I have this fun Italian CD, it's called mob hits.

FloridaLady, bouncing on the exercise ball sitting down is a great idea. Thanks, my mom has neuropathy and get hand and foot syndrome from the Xeloda. Do you think it's ok for her if she has lymphatic damage in her lungs from Taxotere?

Well, I'm glad this thread 'rebounded'.  I was all set to buy a rebounder based on input from the LE boards.  Now that I read here that I can use my exercise ball, I'm thrilled to save the money.  I was just on a concall with work (work at home).  Got to bounce while on mute.  Cool!

    Thanks,

    Debbie
