I had a mastectomy (left). After treatment I will be having my right side removed to, I don't want to have to worry about that one. I'll be having good thoughts for you and carolyn. Hopefully we all got the drug! That would be great. Please post as soon as you know!

Hi Brena & Teresa,
Had my 9th treatment yesterday!! Countdown is still counting. My onc wasn't there and my labs showed an elevated liver count which the nurse had to get the ok from the oncall onc. tHAT TOOK 45 MIN! Went for a 2 mile walk at lunch today. Feel great or should I say good. My husband is back to work but his lower back is still bothering him. I will probably push him to see a chiropractor to get his back aligned. I am not sure if there are other women in this trial. Due to Hippa act I do not think Doc can give me that info. I can always ask. I do know he had 1 on the second phase (prior to our phase). She also had the nosebleeds. He forwarned me about. I guess Brena and I will be doing rads together in June. I was told 6 1/2 weeks of them! Not fun 5 days a week. Its gotta be better than chemo though. My hair is definitely getting funky! The sides are pin straight and the top is getting a kink to it. I had to be pricked 2x yesterday cuz my port just doesn't want to have blood drawn from it. So i told her to take it from the arm again. I just want to keep going to get this thing done with. I also started coaching girls softball last night! Then off to the 8th grade social meeting which I am also on. It was a late night. Forgot that i had to finish my taxes too! I am looking forward to next weeks treatment. Can't wait to hear from Brena on Friday/Saturday on her Arm. Have either of you had high liver enzymes? Mine was 100 yesterday. I am either w/in limits or just over. All other labs were fine on that one. Well, got to run....

Carolyn,
Glad to hear your husband is doing better. I asked my nurse about my last liver enzymes and they were with in normal ranges, so far. I know that Taxol can cause an issue with this, I bet its fine. Your almost done!
At least you have hair enough to get funky. Mines there, straight I guess and light. I just want it to grow! I had my 6th treatment yesterday and so far so good. I went to breakfast this morning and when I was leaving I felt this pins and needle thing on the bottom of my foot near my big toe...very strange....went away after about 15 mins. Nothing since. I don't know if it was asleep or from the taxol.
Do you get flushed the day after treatment? I do, every tuesday I get flushed in the face. I don't know what the heck is causing it.
Well Ladies have a great week!

Carolyn,
Xtra busy this week so it is taking me a little longer to get on-line than would normally.
I will ask about my prior Liver Enzyme test results, I did read Taxol can play with the numbers but in reality the Liver is fine (not sure if it is true, Doc always follows the numbers.) I will get back with you both. I feel fine if that makes any difference.
I am starting to sense you are seeing the light at the end of the journey (you seem to be getting excited that the end is near/within reach.)
Glad the hubby is back to work and that you are taking walks (ya-hooo keep it up.)
Sounds like you have a busy schedule for the summer with the girls softball and social events, sounds great! How old is your daughter?
Sorry to hear you are still having difficulty with your port, if you drew arm C and go onto D you might consider having your port looked at by your surgeon. Continuing to have blood drawn from the arm might give you scar tissue, more problems down the road since that is the only arm you can have blood drawn.
Just had more blood work done today and Doc will review results on Friday.
On Tuesday my Podiatrist removed both of my large toenails, he said it wouldn't hurt....he lied! Toes still throbs, may go home early to rest the feet. At least the toes won't get infected.
Toes will need covering when I go on my week cruise to Bermuda, departing 05/11-05/18. I have been considering going to a tanning bed to get a little tan prior to going, not sure how I will fair while receiving Taxol. My daughter said if I go to the tanning salon without first checking with the Onc she will call him and rat me out!
ps I don't want to talk about the hair thing, mine is not happening.

Teresa,
I get the same flush look on both of my cheeks and lasts for 3-4 days after each shot, I look as if I just ran 2 miles. Just when it starts to go away I am back for the next shot.
Careful with the pins/needles on the feet this is where I got into trouble. I thought the feet were fine and the next thing I knew they were swollen and infected. Keep a close eye on the toes; however, my fingers are doing really well since I trimmed my nails short.
I am glad to hear your shots are going along smoothly, are you still experiencing the nose bleeds and any high BP?
take care,
brena

Brena,
So far my toes are ok, I guess. My fingernails are very sensitive and the nails on a couple look weird. I will have the dr look at them on monday when I see him. Tonight I'm feeling a little fatigued but I think thats because I feel so good on treatment day and the day after that I over do it. Be careful with that tanning thing. You don't want to get a burn! Your going on a cruise? How wonderful, so tell us about it!
My nosebleeds continue but so far no high bp thank goodness.

Hi ladies,
Brena: My daughter is 12 yrs old going on 21! This time of year is very busy with sports and end of school year and I also add my annual field training for the military in there too. I feel for your little piggies. I had my toenail (big toe) lift on the inside of a pair of my shoes when i was running around. Boy did that hurt. They are a little tender but i think it was due to the bumping. I have the same funky looking finger nails that Teresa is experiencing. They aren't to pretty but they are still attached. I had a bad case today w/constipation. Hadn't had that since dd A/C. So i am back to taking Senokot. Talked to the trial nurse and she told me to just take it the 2 days before treatment and 2 days after. My onc says I can knock off 1 of my pills the night before treatment (dexameth). I hope that helps to get rid of some of this fluid retention bloatness i feel. Nose is still tenderitus. I have only had the 1 BP that was a little high but nothing since thank goodness. When the port was put in there was a kink in the top but it flowed...Not sure if that has anything to do w/this now. i really don't want to go thru that again.
Teresa: I don't get flushed the next day. I usually have lots of energy and feel great. Like I said Usually. I think its 2 days later that I get kinda blah. Like today. I am very fatigued and not feeling the best but sucked it up and went to work and then to softball practice. Stomache was making all sorts of gurgling noises. I think my pillow is calling my name. I am looking forward to the weekend. Keep hanging on!

Hello TriNegs - been scouring the message boards for related suffers of Taxol side effects.
Did AC Jan/Feb 08 - finished up 9/9 Taxol 5/16/08. Muscle/Joint pain kicked in on 7/9 but this last treatment was a doozie. Been home for a week surviving each day taking the pain meds pretty much only at night as I have 2 girls to drive to school/daycare and working through chemo as best as I can.
Question I have is about 'itchy red bumps/blisters' - started a few days after last treatment - blisters sprouting up in the weirdest of places. Mostly on my hands, fingers, elbows and scalp - some on the surface, others still 'blooming' like they are working their way up through the skin. Onc wasn't too concerned about them, said to go on Benedryl for 2-3 days see if it clears up. I am not on the clinical trial with Avastin and was curious if anyone else recently is dealing with this? Eucerin lotion soothed dry skin, hydrocortisone helped a little with bumps on the surface - any other suggestions?
Hopes and prayers to you all...

Natalie,
Taxol can definitely cause a rash and seems that SE last for a while after treatment ends. I have been using head and shoulders 2 in 1 shampoo as a body wash and it has helped my rash. The nurse told me that she knew patients who used it with erbutux and it help them too.

Hi Natalie,
You may want to PM AlaskaDeb about the skin condition she's experiencing because of Avastin. I am on Avastin too (clinical trial B-40), but haven't had any skin reaction. However, I understand that skin conditions of several different types are associated with that particular drug. I think AlaskaDeb has an acne-like condition, and I've heard of bumps and rashes in other people as well.
Hope you get better soon -- remember that all this too shall pass (it had better pass or I go on strike!).
Love,
Annie
