There is something about Obama that just doesn't seem right, he makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck.

Amy, it was the way in which Grace said something about the great white man.  It was sarcastic.  Or I would have said nothing about it.

Again, do not tell me I do not understand race issues.  You do not know me (REPEATING MYSELF FOR THE MILLIONTH TIME).  I think you need to get off your high horse!

     Amy accuses me of:

This is not racist and that type comment leads me to believe that you do not understand what racism is. Racism isn't making a statement using the term white, black, african american, hispanic etc., particularly one that can be backed up with facts and figures.

    Grace posts:

Well, I guess I should be arrested as I don't put my hand over my heart when the anthem is played or in saying the Pledge of Allegiance. I do stand though. I do what I do because I don't think this country has been fair to many people. When racism ends, and everyone is treated equitably and is given the same privileges that whites don't have to earn to obtain--then I'll put my hand over my heart. And I believe it's called Freedom of Speech. It's my personal protest.

All I can say is good for you, Grace.  Be damned glad you live in a country that you can do and say just about anything you want.  And be sure you thank our military for keeping this privilege alive and well.

    Grace,

Today everyone has the same rights but they may not have the same opportunities. There are poor white and rich African American as well. Why do you need to make it a race issue ?

Grace one of Hillary's quotes is "I Love America that can be"............that right there is the difference between Conservatives and Liberals..........Conservatives love America period...not what she can be.......we love her unconditionally............we love her regardless of her flaws..........Liberals hate her for her flaws............the only way she will get Liberals to love her is to morph into perfection which of course she will never be able to do............and the way I see it is its not the small town clinging to religion gun owning fly over Americans that are bitter......they love their America just the way she is............its the left coast bitter far left angry Michael Moore "I Hate American" crowd that are so angry and so bitter and so egotistical  they actually believe that small town Americans are just to ignorant to "get it"......they aren't educated enough to "know better".............well Grace you and your left coast left wing "friends" go ahead and hate her...I don't really give a crap.....I will stand proudly with my hand over my heart and cherish the flawed, wart ridden America unconditionally and please none of us would want you to disgrace yourself in pretending to respect her when you don't.....at least your not a hypocrite.....and just so you know I am sitting here at my computer waving my flag with my hand over my heart...........Shokk

    Shokk,

Can't remember if you have siblings, or if we've ever discussed it. But here's my point. I have three brothers and one sister. I love them to pieces. Yet, during our growing up, I have hated some of the choices they've made. I knew they could do better and waited for them to grow and be responsible adults. That's how I look at this country. It can be a great place, but right now I'm so pissed with the decisions those in charge are making I want to spit nails. I know that as soon as we have a democrat in the white house, the country will grow up and fly right! Have another drink, girlfriend, this will go down easier that way!!!!

"I am signed up to receive emails from Barack's campaign, as well as from the local campaign group where I live. I have not been inundated with "emails.......all Clinton hate messages. Rumors are worthless at this point. Don't know where you are getting your info"

It was a question or a statement made last night in the debate from George S.

God help me for posting this.  I'll probably be called a racist.

I need to know something.  And, Cherryl, you are probably the best person to answer my question.

As you know I've mentioned that Reverend Wright is having a $1,000,000 house (10,000 sq ft) given to him by his church.  Also, he's going to have a $10,000,000 credit line.  My question is why would he want to live in a gated community that is 93% white rich people when he calls the country, the Untited States of White America?  And there's also other slams against whites and the U.S.

Shirley, you are brave ..... and right.  I wonder why he lives surrounded by people he really doesn't like.  Here in the LA area there is an area that is called Baldwin Hills and its approximately 80% black and it's a beautiful place to live. I used to cut thru it from the West side to get to Downtown. "After African Americans began moving into the area, it was given nicknames such as the Golden Ghetto and the Black Beverly Hills. It has been home to such celebrities as Ray Charles, Tina Turner, Nancy Wilson (singer), Oscar-winning film director John Singleton, and the late Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley. Like nearby Ladera Heights and View Park -Windsor Hills, it has seen a recent small influx of white, Asian, and Latino families drawn to its convenient location, large homes and historic architecture."

Now, don't get me wrong, people can live where ever they want!!!  Like Shirley, you'd wonder why a man who doesn't respect or seem to like white people, why he'd like to live all around them.  Even Beverly Hills is probably more racially mixed than 93% white.

Since you seem to know just about everything, RM, maybe you could write to Obama and tell him that his grandfather who fought in WWII was wrong. Obama has never said that he is "accused" of being Muslim, it's only the prejudiced people who think there is something negative about being Muslim. There are people is this country who will not vote for a Muslim, who think that it is a religion of terror rather than of love that has been misconstrued by a few. Is it ok that Hillary lets people know she's christian and not Obama? Face it, there are many people in this country who say they will not vote for someone with different religious beliefs than them. If you'll remember  some christians said they would not vote for Romney because he's a mormon. I vehemently disagreed with that, I wanted them not to vote for him for other reasons. I think it's clear to me that some people here and upset that Obama will be the democratic candidate and are searching for things to post that don't mean anything to people who really care about the issues in this country. I'm really disappointed that this board continues to be so negative. This is the kind of thing that Obama is trying to change by running a more positive candidacy and I look forward to McCain doing the same thing.

Shirley, you do not know that Grace was saying something sarcastic and if you're not sure you should check with the person before jumping down her throat. You've done it with me, before, so I see that as a pattern with you and people with whom you disagree. Why are you so obsessed with Reverend Wright and all that negativity? Don't you have more important things to think about? Do you want people to judge you by the inflamatory things your buddy Jerry Falwell said or by the person you are?

Shokk-- your comment about conservative people loving the country for what it is and liberals for what it can be is interesting and probably goes to the heart of many disagreements.  I am embarrassed by Bush and decisions he has made for this country and because he was elected, that is a reflection on this country, in my opinion. He's not responsible alone, the elected senate authroized the war and the elected congress to fund the war. I am embarrassed that the USA is not leading the way in antidiscrimination against all people in this country. I was embarrassed when Clinton not only used the oval office to cheat, but lied about it, something that Marion Jones, but not Scooter Libby, is currently in jail for. I never felt this way before the Clinton Bluedress-gate. I don't care as much about the cheating, people in this country are prudish about sex compared to our European friends, but I do care about breaking the law to lie, when others who do that are jailed. I feel like I need to apologize for Gitmo, Abu Gharaib and the chaos in the world he has caused. I believe with Obama as our next president, this country will return to it's greatness and I will fly my flag again when that happens. To me patriotism is saying, "The emperor has no clothes."

Well, you gals have been busy! I make race an issue because it is an issue in this country--a huge one--the elephant in the room no one is willing to talk about or learn about. The issue isn't "poor white and rich Africans," the issue is skin color. That's how we treat people in this country--based on their skin color. The closer to white, the less threatening people of color are. And you are right, I'll d@#* well do as I please because we have freedom of speech in this country. I feel we are all fortunate to have this freedom, although those of us who are white have it even better--we have privilege!! Obviously, Barack isn't given the same privileges as he is questioned about his hand over his heart, and not wearing the flag pin. When I see a flag pin, I see a republican. Can't help it, just what hits me. Others probably don't see it that way. Each of us is entitled to one's own opinion. I don't agree with some of you, and some of you don't agree with me. And it appears my posts have touched on a nerve, bringing out some sarcasm and anger. Whoo-hoo! This is fun. You all just made my day.

Shirley--My previous posts about the good old white boys was not sarcastic, but if you want to take it that way, you go right ahead. Your entitled to your opinion. Glad you showed your irritation with me!!

shokk---There is a giant Obama rally tonight in downtown Philly near the Liberty Bell at Independence Park-----received a robocall last night.

I'm sure his troops are very busy!

Incidentally, the night of Bush's election I was trapped where I work (an inner city primary care office)  because Gore was still trying to get out the vote and was making a last minute appearance outside our office.  They closed off the main thoroughfare and it took hours to get out.

Two things a little odd.  Here it is less han a week before a major primary and in a densely populated suburb where I live you can go for miles without seeing any election signs --not for Hillary or Obama.

Also, I've gotten tons of flyers in the mail from Obama but none from Clinton.----

Amy, No disagreement about confidentiality of sources---Just pointing out McCain has no hesitation going against Bush or his party on matters of conscience.

Shokk-- you can blame Obama for that change Tongue out. I want to find the similarities between us, particularly people I've butted heads with previously. When I first heard Obama said, there are no red states or blue states, there is just the united states of America, years ago, I knew that was my kind of politician. I have voted republican before, I almost always vote for Arlen Specter, who incidently is suffering a recurrence of Hodgkin's to chest lymph nodes. I could be a log cabiner if the majority of republicans. I  supported equal rights and benefits for gays and keeping abortion legal while increasing services to prevent the necessity for them. I was one of the few democrats that I know who not only supported Clinton's impeachment, but thought he should resign. I try to make my decision on what I believe to be right, not party.

I am curious about something....do any of you who are posting here think you are changing anyone's mind on who to vote for?

Has a single person here changed their mind on who they will support?  It seems from what I have read (not the whole thread) people have already made up their minds.

I think it is interesting why and how people choose who to vote for....much of the time either they pick one subject like abortion of gun rights and vote based on that, or they pick a party and pull the handle...

I have voted on both sides of the ticket.  I tend to be a social liberal on most things except guns and a fiscal conservative.  I actually am not wild about any of the 3 front-runners for president this year and, unfortunately will probably end up voting for someone I don't strongly like.....the lesser of 3 evils maybe.

I actually spend a lot more time and energy on local politics as I feel I can more strongly affect the results and ultimately my own life.  Frankly, getting g a new library bond passed here this year is taking WAY more of my interest and time than the presidential debate.....

I think one more thing to remember our country is only 232 years old and look at what we have accomplished.......when you look at countries like Iraq, Iran, even China and India.....they are thousands of years old and much of their populations live in the same conditions that have been living for hundreds of years...........no women rights, Iran doesn't even admit that they have a gay population, no human rights.......the list could go on and on........can America improve....of course she can and she does all the time.............considering that America is just an infant I think she is pretty great and I am proud as hell of her............this was last Wednesday morning..........for my American loving, God loving friends......enjoy.........     www.youtube.com/watch?v=irZmknvOB4I  Shokk

For me I can live 80% with Hillary or McCain depending on their VP candidate.---I won't vote for Obama because of his pick of foreign policy advisers and I believe that reflects directly on his judgment.

Can you tell us something about your Governor since she is on the short list of VP picks for McCain?

Shokk- you make a good point. I remember visiting Europe when I was 8 and being astonished at how old some of the buildings were and to realize just how young of a country we were. We have accomplished a lot in those years-- it's hard for me when I see other countries giving gays more rights, because in my mind, we should be the leader in social and human rights. I wish we were better leaders and examples, since we are the most powerful country in the world.

((((Deb)))) remember real freedom is based on being able to read............regardless of what you believe..........literacy is freedom...........you go and take what energy you have and get that library bond past......I don't think that this thread is here to convert someone to one side or the other because that line is already drawn but for me I enjoy the dialog..........it keeps my chemo brain just a bit sharper and every once in a while someone with whom I don't agree will say something that at least makes me think about something in a different way........you just never know..........Shokk

    Saluki -

Sara Palin is a wonderful Gov.  I voted for her and would be sad to see her move away from the state.  Frankly, she would be a great VP, but I think she would be better suited for the job in 4 to 8 years when she has had a little more time to finish what she has started here in Alaska.

She is moving forward with a long delayed gas pipeline here in the state.  It has been a big snafu for 20 years and she seems to have cut through the red tape and has things moving in a good direction in just over a year.  She seems to be VERY honest and is following through with her promises she made before she was elected.  She seems to balance being a mother and wife very well with her job.  I have a great deal of respect for her as  a person and a politician.  She is a conservative with a heart....a good thing in my book.

Hey Shokk...My post was not meant to be a slam.  I think it is fine to debate.  I was just curious if people really changed their minds on who to vote for....

I am all for healthy debate and discussion.  I just wonder how many people in the USA have NOT made thier choice all ready.  It feels like the race has been going on for YEARS already.  We have looked at every aspect of every person running so closely already, I don't know what could come out we didn't already know.  I think that is why we are now nit-picking about such little things.  Just my opinion....

Deb--That's pretty much the same feeling that there is about Bobby Jindal

another VP consideration for McCain.  They want him to continue finishing what he has started in Louisiana---but a good man, very respected and very well versed in healthcare---could run rings around both Hillary and Obama in that department as well as foreign affairs especially regarding Pakistan.

Grace, I'm responding to her comments that were direct to me. It seems some of us hit her nerve.  It'd be ok with me if she'd ignore me and whatever I say but that's like asking a scorpion not to sting.
