Looks like several forgot to take their meds today, Paulette!

Shokk and Shirley, you should take your repartee on the road--a two woman show! I'd buy a ticket--as long as it didn't cost more than 20 bucks--I have to watch my budget so I have enough money to continue my charitable contributions to the oil and insurance companies. LOL

    Shirley,

Sorry if I offended you, however (and you knew that was coming), it was the good old white men who started this country, and continue to try to run it, although--that's why we have an African American male and a white woman running for President--time to move the good old white boys out of the capitol and make some changes!

Don't see how good old white boys with privilege is racist? They are the ones with the power and the money. This from a good ole white woman who has had enough!!

Yes, Clinton was in office then...........and then Bush appeared.............and the bubble burst!

I don't know anything about where your friends work or who they are trying to hire, but manufacturing jobs in the computer industry have gone bye bye. There are also many, many managers that are out of work now because companies went under. The bubble burst and men who made a decent salary can't even find a job. Many workers I know have been out of work for years, or ended up getting clerical jobs if they weren't told they were overqualified.

And how about all those that left the state entirely.

Personally, I couldn't be better. You are misreading my posts--there is no anger--just having fun with you all. Laughing with every post. Shokk is entertaining me the most today. Too funny and yet so sad.

And the laugh for the day: I just new there was something squirrelie about this guy. A superstitious republican in the white house might be fun. We can watch and see how many superstitions we can identify. Sort of like where's waldo!! LOL

    FROM CNN’s Jack Cafferty:

Here’s something you may not know about the Republican presumptive nominee John McCain: he’s very superstitious.

The Washington Times reports on some of McCain’s more well-known rituals. For example, he won’t throw a hat on a bed - bad luck. He carries a lucky feather — wonder what that’s for, a lucky compass, and a lucky penny, nickel and quarter. One staffer says he had so many coins at one point “it was like a change purse in his pocket.”

And the senator’s superstitions are rubbing off on some members of his campaign staff. One top adviser says he grew a beard during the 2000 campaign and didn’t shave it until the race was over. He says he’s probably doing the same thing this time around. Another adviser says when someone recently mentioned winning the general election in November, three staffers immediately knocked on wood so not to jinx anything.

Don't forget about the salt.  "Don't try to pass a salt shaker to John McCain. He won't take it from your hand because it's bad luck."  I think he also carries a laminated four leaf clover.

I find it kind of endearing.

By the way FDR suffered from Triskaidekaphobia.

"Reagan always had a lucky coin and gold charm in his pocket, knocked on wood often, never walked under ladders and tossed salt over his left shoulder when he spilled some (McCain does that, too). He and wife Nancy admitted reading syndicated horoscopes. "

    Grace,

By definition bubble has to burst sometime be it Clinton, Obama or Bush. The whole valley was living some kinds of surreal life. I remember those days when they were giving stuff away for free on the Internet to attract customers. I actually was getting my house supplies such as toilet paper , soap , etc on the web for free. Those were the days :)

I am glad to hear you are doing OK. It is hard sometime to "read" a person on the Internet.

I agree that some manufacturing jobs are going away but it is a natural thing to happen as the cost of living here is very high since there are a lot of people with good jobs willing to pay money for houses. My cowroker's husband just got a job in Austin and they are moving. They are selling their moderate house here and buying a nice large house there with a boat docking. Nothing we can do about it, Silicon valley is becoming a white collar community that is draining brains from other states as well as overseas.

Sacramento on the other hand is much more affordable at least for now.

So while going to a grocery store to buy corn before they'll use it all up for ethanol :) I heard a soundbite from Obama/Clinton debate. Obama sounded rather stupid now that the media woke up and actually started to ask him tough questions.

So they asked him about his plans to raise capital gains taxes. They pointed out to him that historically whenever taxes were cut , the revenues actually went up. And he replied that it was not about the revenues but about the fairness. Then he talked about fund managers making huge amount of money as if it has anything to do with 100 millions Americans owning the stocks. They reminded him again that historically  tax cuts actually produce more revenues and tax raises decrease them . To that Obama replied that it may or may not happen even though it happened every single time before.

I am actually getting more hopeful that he will self-destruct during general election debates as he is not able to handle tough questions from that new "fair" media. His answers are evasive and ridiculous. I ask you what does hedge fund manager's salary got to do with my capital gain tax.

I know this is kind of stupid, but I thought the cost of living in California was terribly expensive.  I admit I sometimes watch those reality shows where they fix up houses and sell them (Flip This House..something like that).  The little run down shack houses in Califorinia were $300,000 or more.  Very little square footage.  I couldn't believe it!  No wonder people are moving elsewhere.  And Austin is hot!  I believe San Antonio (where I'm from) and Dallas are booming too.  Perhaps we should ALL move to one of these cities.  Nope, can't move too far from my girls.

I've taped the debate because the phone rang and I couldn't watch all of it.  What I did notice while watching was that it appeared that Hillary couldn't look anyone in they eye.  Did anyone else notice this?  I'm going to watch it tomorrow.

Texas is booming...I'm sure that's because of the oilmen though!

My son and DIL live in Palo Alto, CA., he was a nice Republican conservative before he married the Berkley grad, but I digress, they were here visiting in January and were shocked at house prices here in the land of oilmen...they are looking for a condo in San Fran and the prices are crazy, here in the land of oilmen, you could buy a mansion for what a small 2/2 condo goes for in liberal Cali!  The cost of living in Cali is expensive and not just housing, why anyone lives there is beyond me.

I heard on the news that farmers are purposely decreasing the amount of wheat and corn they are planting this year!  Why?  To bring the prices up.

Nicki, the government tells them how much to plant, who should plant and then even pays the farmer that doesn't grow ......  to keep prices solid and high.

Shirley, I thought it was strange too that it seemed that Hillary wasn't looking anyone in the eye but then I realized what it was all about - she was looking at the audience.  If you notice, the audience seemed to be raised a bit from the stage, so she had the choice of either moving her eyes around among the audience members (as one would normally do during a presentation or speech) or staring down at the camera.  She chose to look at the audience.  But it sure seemed odd for those of us watching on t.v..  The set up really wasn't good.

Shirley-- you missed my point entirely. I never said I only watch biased shows to which I agree, I said that I watch all three major cable networks, but can't watch too much of faux when they start being really ugly about human beings. IF I am choosing to watch something that I know is biased, it's damn well going to be something I agree with, to lift my spirits after all the negativity.

Susie, one of the cornerstones of a free press is to allow anonymity of confidential sources. If not for that, people would be afraid to come forward. Remember Deep Throat (not the porn movie, but the informant LOL)?

Paulette, a lot of a people who are pro-choice were terrified when republicans got the late term abortion clause put into law, because we saw this as the first step towards the government stepping in between doctors and their patients. Nobody likes abortion, and late term abortions are only 1-2% of all abortions. There are supreme court members who would like to over turn Roe v Wade and when McCain says he would appoint justices like Roberts (who never clearly answered the question) and Thomas, it scares us. Everybody wants fewer abortions-- I just don't want to see back alley abortions or self abortions. I have a friend that gave herself 2 abortions before abortion was legal.

Nicki, I had a friend from out of town in yesterday and she's from Chicago and is pleased with Obama's work for your state. She initally wanted to vote for Hillary, but was turned off and only recently decided to vote for hope and change with Obama. We've known each other for several years and she's always liked him (she's not from the campaign, just a friend). I'm sorry to hear you won't be voting at all because I think by not voting, even for a 3rd party candidate, one gives away an opportunity that many in the world do not have.

Shirley, surely you can see that this country has been dominated and lead by white men since it's conception. That is a fact and not racist. If you look at the percentage of white men in this country vs. the percentage who run businesses large and small, who are in government on  local, state and federal  levels-- you will see that indeed white men hold more of these positions. This is not racist and that type comment leads me to believe that you do not understand what racism is. Racism isn't making a statement using the term white, black, african american, hispanic etc., particularly one that can be backed up with facts and figures.

DJD- your point about wanting an intelligent and thoughtful president is one I definitely agree with. I also want a president who can play well in the sandbox, because that's how things will get done. I like that Obama doesn't discount all republicans with statements like "the republican attack machine" and that he wants to find ways we get along to

At least he has a sense of humor:  "There is no doubt that the Republicans will attack either of us," he said. "What I have been able to display during the course of this primary is that I can take a punch. I have taken some pretty good ones from Senator Clinton."

Obama was taught by his grandfather that one doesn't stand with his hand over his heart during the national anthem, but one stands with respect. I can't believe the petty things Hillary's goons are passing around-- trying to distract from the real issues. She is a piece of work.

He's a lawmaker and should know the law:

No. According to U.S. law, a civilian like Obama is supposed to stand up when the anthem is played, take off his hat, face the flag, and put his right hand over his heart. When in uniform, members of the military can keep their hats on and salute instead of placing their hands on their hearts.*

Why do you think "Hillary's goons" are passing this around?  Any can see the pictures and form opinions based solely on the pictures.  During the debate last night, Obama never did answer the question regarding not wearing the American flag pin.  Of course, he's entitled to wear one or not, but regular people notice these things in pictures.  It doesn't take a campaign manager to point them out.

I also want to know why he is upset that he "accused" (his words not mine) of being Muslim?  Why does he try to make it known that he is Christian?

Now, I understand that with his name sounding like Osama, people might think he automatically is Muslim. There was talk he was born Muslim.... and rumors abound.  Why isn't anybody saying:  who cares WHAT religion he is.  Why isn't he saying this?  Separation of church and state should mean that this is not an issue at all.

If I was Muslim, I'd be perturbed that he uses the word accused. And the fact that when some say he is that he isn't saying: What if I am?

I really liked Ricky Martin telling people that he refused to tell anyone what his sexual preference was.  I still have no clue.  Even Robin Roberts....I've heard that she might be a lesbian but you don't see her saying A THING.

Hillary's goons haven't been doing their job.  Why did I have to find out about William Ayers only last night?  45 mins. of a debate just trying to get through all of Obama's goons...gaffes, misstatements and friends. Who they are, what they've been to jail for and who is going to jail.  Hope and change with Obama.

Also from last nights debate, Obama is inundating everyone with  emails... all Clinton hate messages?  I might sign up just to see what is actually going on.  I get Hillary's emails and they're nothing like that.

I swear that email did not come from Hillary's web site, or anything of the sort.  It was sent to me by a republican friend of mine.

I doubt Hillary's "goons" is where that started.

    The picture speaks for itself.

If you want to run to be the leader of the United states of America then you darn well better put your hand on your heart and respect our flag and what it stands for.

Well, I guess I should be arrested as I don't put my hand over my heart when the anthem is played or in saying the Pledge of Allegiance. I do stand though. I do what I do because I don't think this country has been fair to many people. When racism ends, and everyone is treated equitably and is given the same privileges that whites don't have to earn to obtain--then I'll put my hand over my heart. And I believe it's called Freedom of Speech. It's my personal protest.

I fault ABC for such a poor debate. The questions were trivial and not enough about the issues we are all concerned about. I don't need to repeat them as we know what they are!

Barack used his American name until he returned to the mainland to go to college. He went by Barry Obama. Barack is his given African name. After 2 years at Occidental he transferred to Columbia University. I saw no mention in his biography (on TV a few nights ago) that he was ever Muslim. I agree with Rocktobermom, who cares what his religion is.

I am signed up to receive emails from Barack's campaign, as well as from the local campaign group where I live. I have not been inundated with "emails.......all Clinton hate messages. Rumors are worthless at this point. Don't know where you are getting your info.

Just have to comment on one moment in the debate, as I'm waiting for Hillary to be inundated with further media comments on this. When asked if Barack could win the election, Hillary said, Yes, Yes, Yes. Then went on to say she could do a better job at winning. Why is she trying to convince the superdelegates that Barack is unelectable, yet says he can win at the debate? I found that laughable.

Also heard a few more superdelegates have announced they will support Obama for the nomination. So she may win PA, but don't think she will win enough to get a nomination at this time. We'll have to see what happens in the next few primaries in a couple of weeks.

I can't wait till one of them takes on McCain. The fireworks will be fun to watch!

Obama already started to whine about 45 minutes of grilling on what he said were non-essential issues i.e. the ones he could not  answer well.

As far as his refusal to put his hand over his heart I think this is just another example of his arrogance. We have traditions here so why not follow them as they are not offensive to anyone. Why single yourself as above it all ?
