Since I am a seamstress, A friend sent me this. I thought it was funny:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
From a 1949 Singer Sewing machine manual
If you have ever had trouble focusing at the sewing
machine or been a little stressed while quilting --this may be just
the help you need.Prepare yourself mentally for sewing. Think
about what you are going to do. Never approach sewing with a sigh or
lackadaisically.
**
Good results are difficult when indifference
predominates. Never try to sew with a sink full of dirty dishes or beds
unmade. When there are urgent housekeeping chores, do these first so your
mind is free to enjoy your sewing.
When you sew, make yourself as attractive as
possible. Put on a clean dress. Keep a little bag full of French chalk near
your sewing machine to dust your fingers at intervals. Have your hair in
order, powder and lipstick put on. If, you are constantly fearful that
a visitor will drop in or your husband will come home and you will
not look neatly put together, you will not enjoy sewing as you
should." -
Wow. I am actually speechless.....
(thank gawd times have changed!)
-
That was my mom! She wore a dress and pearls while vacuuming!
(I wear sweats)
-
Well I am going to go sew for a short time right now.
So I will have to change from my sweats to my Nice Dress & Pearls.
Who Knows my dh could show up unexpectedly : )
-
OMG, unbelievable.
Mrs 1949 would drop down dead if she could see my sewing
room, some days you can't actually see the machine I am using, so big is the pile of projects I have lined up, and I never ever get to the bottom of them!
Luckily, I can just shut the door on the mess and no-one else sees it ! I was having my central heating checked a while back, and warned DH to let me know in advance when plumber wanted to be in this room.
Of course, he didn't, and plumber had to come and ask me 'where is the radiator' he couldn't see anything for my piles of material, boxes of bits and bobs, and my ironing pile.(which at times is as big as Everest!)
Isabella.
-
That is just sickening!!!
It used to be a man's only world, but then along came the 3rd wave of feminism in the 60's and 70's .........
-
Isabella, at least you have an ironing pile! My "iron" is the dryer. If I can't take it out of the dryer and wear it, I don't buy it!
-
mmhmm... that's me... constantly fearful that a visitor will drop in or my husband will come home and I won't look neatly put together. No wonder I can't sew worth a cr*p!
-
Laura, I have had an ironing pile for 44 years, I have NEVER got to the bottom of it!! (could this be a record?)
Even when I moved house I just shoved it all in to plastic sacks, and emptied it out at the new house. Every now and then I will attack it, but it IS every now and then!!
Isabella.
-
Too funny, I will have to copy that and send it to my mom!
-
oh -- my poor mother!
No wonder she was clinically depressed throughout the 50s and 60s!
Did that kind of crap come with every household appliance?
-
LOL, i am copying too. People I work with will love this.
