I LOVE SPRING!!

    Spring in the Rockies--it's hard to beat.

    Hubby and I went on a 40 mile bike ride today, my first outing of the season. I've been training and cross-training pretty well, so I didn't struggle too much on the hills.

    It was sunny and 60 degrees. We were out on the plains, and had the most stunning view of the moutains in their snow-covered glory. Meadowlarks were signing, hawks riding the thermals, horses kicking up their heels in their pastures.

    I am freakin' sore in my legs but it feels so good!

    Dito that Anne,

    We did the same yesterday and went for a hike above our house. They are building a golf course but is staying in the natural elements of water, sage and pine. Went through some pasture land with all the new born calves and butter cups. Like you lots of birds as well, and the  breathtaking view of Okanagan lake to top it off.

    Anne that sounds wonderful!  I can Picture it & hear the Birds!  I can Even smell the Spring Air- almost.  Still waiting for Spring here in MN.

    Supposed to finally hit 70 tomorrow.  But we are supposed to have winds gusting to 50!   So It probably wont feel to warm.

    I love Spring & cant wait to see my Spring Flowers.  

     My Favorite Bird call is the Redwing Black Bird...It brings me back to when I was Young & Me & My Sisters Were always at a Quarry near us catching frogs & enjoying nature.

    My dh had emergency surgery on Friday so friends kept bringing food!  It was a constant struggle to avoid the siren song of comfort food.  Won some, lost some.

    I couldn't leave the dh for long periods so I just worked out at home.  70 minutes on the eliptical, 50 crunches, 50 leg lifts and some good stretches.  It was a beautiful weekend and I missed being out in the sunshine.

    txgirl, good for you for sticking to taking care of yourself even amidst an emergency surgery ! That really shows how driven you are.

    Anne, I did a 30 mile bike ride with my friends, no hills yet ( andyes we do have some respectable hills in Orlando although short it hits 15% )

     Riding in March is smeltacular, smelling the orange blossoms and blooming jasmins !

    Also started back sculling, the head coach will check into the Harvard rowing team as they had a research about rowing an lymphedema for bc patients, do not know the outcome but being on the water felt really good and although not as strong as it was my arm felt good.

    I will be doing the 'Row for the Cure' in August,benefiting komen foundation.

    Trigeek, here is the link to information about the Breast Cancer rowing team.  The lady is out of the Boston area.  She spoke at our support group.  Very inspiring.

    As for me this weekend, I did a grueling, mountainous, trail 1/2 marathon.  More hiking than running.  It took me a long time - 4.5 hours.  At times I found myself saying "this s-cks" but at other times I reminded myself it was so much better than the alternative.  It was a great day!

    And along with running this week, I'm going to trade in my little Honda Rebel motorcycle for a new 750 Honda Shadow Aero.  I'm very excited!  It'll be great for long rides.

    Hey, Tri,

    Rowing should be good for you. There are many bc survivors out there doing dragon boat races, some have LE, others don't. They swear by the motion of rowing to promote lymph drainage.

    Debbie, your run/hike sounds great. As soon as the mud dries up, and the ice on the north side of the hills melts, I'm taking my treadmill time to the outdoors, and I want to incorporate some running in the hills. It'll be mostly hiking, at least to start, but I'm looking forward to it.

    But I get easily distracted by birds. Last year I stopped in the middle of my trail run to watch Orioles for half an hour.

    Dejaboo, redwing blackbirds remind me of Minnesota, too. I spent summers there as a kid. And cedar waxwings became my favorite bird.

    You know we are all pretty awesome ladies!  Here we are talking about 40 mile bike rides, sculling and running the Boston Marathon.  Stop whatever you are doing and give yourself a huge hug.  :-)

    Bomber, you are on target! That really made me smile. Yep, we're accomplishing good things. We are strong, determined, and motivated. We love being outside and pushing our bodies. We like the internal rewards of seeing a toned thigh or tricep.

    I'm in awe of you guys, and I don't belong on this thread...but I love the Spring!  It was 78* in Portland (OR) on Saturday, and I was watching my son play a lacrosse game, and then I worked in the yard.  Gardening in the Spring is the best time, when the tulips are all blooming, the daphne smells so sweet, and the new leaves are such a bright green.

    Sometimes I think that I rush/run/speed through life so quickly that I have to stop myself to smell the roses a reminder like yours does the trick !

    Last Saturday, here in Portland, OR, it was almost 80*, and everyone rushed to get their gardens planted.  This Saturday we may have snow down to 500'!  The weather forecasters are loving all the drama!

    trigeek, I wish I had your energy to exercise.  I stay thin by being constantly in disorganized motion--throwing a load of laundry in, then running downstairs to get something, then up again...Out of curiousity, I wore one of those step-counters, and I logged 15,000 steps one day just doing housework!  But I envy those who can scull and run marathons.

    A note on sculling...have you ever seen The River Wild? Meryl Streep looks amazing in the opening scene on the river.

    just planted a flower bed today.. have about five more to go but I figured why get in a hurry...I love gardening

    Hi Delorisann,

    I can see Bleeding Hearts and Columbine in your garden.  Two of my favorite Spring flowers.  I'll bet the little kids love all the statuary, esp the ducks!  My kids are older now, but I like to surprise my neighbors' toddlers by placing different animals in their flowers. It's fun to watch them put a gnome, duck or rabbit in their doll buggies for the day!
