Well, here's to hoping you find those new hairs coming in fast as well as that you keep the old!  :D  FUnny how the old ones feel so stiff compared to the new fuzz.  Weird all around dealing with this stuff!  So glad you are through tx too!  Except for the Hep, which appears to be so much calmer on the body! Good luck with it!

    Suz~

A~  Oh my, flat without doggie ears!  Very Cool !  It was me asking about the numbness.  Just wondered whether it was or not.  I've thought on occasion about doing that, then awwwwwwww..maybe not.  We'll see how I deal with it all this summer.  I wonder too?  IF a woman who's had a bi-lat without recon, were to sun or work in her yard or go the beach without a top.  Could she be ticketed for indecent exposure?  I mean, she has no breasts, right?  Just my crazy mind doing stupid thinking today. :)  Rather than cleaning! :D

Anyway.............hoping your 'girls' fill and succeed in making you happy with them!  Like Christmas or a birthday hey?

Loriann!  Man it was windy, cold and just plain miserable! I sure hope we don't get any of Minnie's snow with this!  UGH!  I'm so not wanting to see that white stuff!  Supposed to be leaving shortly to watch high school girls soccer!  Nutty people anyway!  Who plays in this stuff! 38 degrees, rainy and supposed to be freezing rain in there! Just nutty!

But glad you are sounding so chipper!  Must be that trip you've got in your grasp that's doing it, b/c michigan weather is a bummer for everyone this weekend!  Keep it up and you'll be done so quick, you'll wonder where the time went to! Then you'll be off to sun and fun!  Can I come? :D

Hi to everyone else, time to run, but hoping the aches, pains and sciatica are improving today for everyone!  Stay warm if you are north and cool if south! :D

    Good Morning!

Wishiwere --- What part of Michigan do you live?   I don't know a thing about Michigan, but my son was drafted last year (2007) out of high school to play for the Detroit Tigers (1st Sup. round) and will be coming to Michigan in a couple of weeks to play for the West Michigan White Caps... I think maybe in Comstock, MI .... are you close to that?  He is in Lakeland Florida for now, Rehabing a pulled Oblique (sp ?) muscle that he got in Spring Training.. otherwise he would be in MI now with the rest of the team..

And talk about north and south weather.... my hubby and I are visiting him Lakeland Florida this weekend (now) and the temp. outside is already 80 plus degrees and sunny and humid... what a weather shock he is going to have when he comes to Michigan.....and he has never really been too far north... lived in Alabama all of his life.....

Amy -- happy to hear you are doing good after surgery... I plan to have reconstructive, but will not be able to until about  a year ... Dr. says maybe sometime toward the end of this year...and have thought about the nipple thing too, but not sure I am so concerned about that as much as just getting my "boobie" back... I only had one removed, but Dr. will reconstruct it and implant the other to match... what method of reconstruction did you say you had?  (not sure if I missed that post or maybe you didn't post it)... hope you continue to do well...

    Good Saturday to all!!

    Love and Blessings,

    Jeannie

    Hey, Jeannie--

I had a DIEP reconstruction, which is a "free-flap"? procedure--they took a big chunk out of my belly and made a breast with it. It was a long surgery (9 hours), because they have to use a microscope thingy to sew the blood vessels together (!). And the recovery was pretty rough--I had to sleep in a recliner for a month or so.

I wish I could say "but it was all worth it", but I don't exactly feel that way--it's fine. There are things I like about it--I don't have to think about what to wear to the beach (well, no more than I used to!)...it's warm and fleshy and comfortable; and things I don't like: the numbness, the giant scar on my belly (though it looks better now) the blank look of the boob with no nipple...It was a very hard choice to make, because there really isn't a perfect solution--they all have their pros and cons.

The nice thing is that for you, there's no rush--you know you've treated the cancer--recon decisions can happen whenever you want. (I did immediate recon, so I had to make up my mind quickly.)

I am going to knock wood as soon as I type this, but I THINK the hot flashes have been diminishing! Yeah, there are definitely fewer. It still happens in the night, but I only remember a couple today and yesterday...

Sorry this is all me, me, me...all you lovely ladies are in my thoughts.

    more soon--

I feel terrific, and my breast is feeling pretty darn good. Red, sore, but nothing major at all. Gotta run, I am taking my daughter to broadway/Hairspray today, but will write more next week.

Super big crushing bear hugs to you ladies!

wishiwere -- really made me chuckle on the "indecent exposure" pondering Laughing

And you had asked about a chiropractor for my sciatica. Nope, not yet anyway. My PT wants me to have some x-rays on my lower back to see if any disks are outta wack or something, so we'll see what that turns up. What has seemed to help, at least temporarily, is that she has put me in traction twice. They put a huge "brace" around your hips and another one across your chest; lay you on a table; hook you up to this machine which stretches you out... feels like some sort of medieaval torture machine, but it seemed to make me feel a bit better for a day or two. Problem is... the "brace" is cinched so tight around my chest and then the pressue from the machine pulling, I've been worried the tissue expanders might burst or get damaged/moved. It hasn't happen, but they ("breasts") are sore since we've done the traction. So now I have to decide... continue with the traction because it seems to be helping with the sciatica, or discontinue it because it might be damaging the tissue around the tissue expanders? Anyone else want to shoot me... can I make my own life more complicated or what?

JeannieBell-- you asked about anyone else having lack of nose hair. DEFINITELY, and man oh man am I tired of sniffing all day and the nose bleeds too. Whodda thought I'd ever say I can't wait to have nose hair.

Amy-- I'm knocking on wood too, but have also noticed a slight decrease in the number of hot flashes. I've also been trying to "focus"  really hard when they happen at inconvenient times (@ work) to see if I can stop them from happening. Doesn't seem to be working, but can't blame a girl for trying. Wink Unfortunately, I start Tamoxifen tomorrow and hot flashes are one of the main SE's, so I'm not thru with them yet Frown

Amy, also glad to hear you are recovering slowly but surely. And I have new respect for your reconstruction. I'm a skinny little stick who had small breasts so my PS didn't give me any options... it was tissue expanders or nothing. Although they are still uncomfortable at times (ie. sleeping), sounds like I got off VERY easy compared to what you've had to endure. You are a brave, amazing woman, you know that? Wowzers! I get my "permanent" implants swapped in sometime this spring.

Hey gals, I'm a little nervous about starting Tamoxifen... I start it tomorrow and it's for 5 years (sounds like a jail sentence). I've been surfing this website for positive feedback about Tamoxifen, but all I'm finding are negative stories. As my husband said, probably the people who don't have problems don't post anything... there could be WAY more people who sail thru it than there are people who had problems. But I've spoken with 3 ladies here in Maine that had problems, and then read a bunch of negative posts on this website, so I'm a bit discouraged. I haven't even gotten rid of my other SE's or the stupid sciatica... I'm not looking forward to causing more crap to my body. Yell Whine whine whine. "Wait and see before you worry about it, Sally" right?

But to end on a positive note, I can say that compared to a month ago I'm feeling great. I'm enjoying the spring which is slowly coming. I'm grateful that ("traditional") chemo is behind me. And every day the hair on my head feels the teeniest-tiniest bit longer (can you say "delusional"? he he he). Life is good.

    Super big hugs to everyone,

    Sal

Hey Jeannie~  Comstock is near Grand Rapids Mi, about an 1 1/2 hours from here.  It's supposed to be nice by next tues, maybe as high as 60~  Wohooooo! :D  We've got a team near us about 20 minutes maybe in Midline the last 2 years, the Great Lake Loons.  I see they play each other here the 1st week in june!  Cool!  So explain to me, if he was drafted by Detroit, why is he playing for the Whitecaps?  Call me confused. I never understood the draft!  :D

As for the anti-hormones, ladies, I think we really NEED to take into consideration that those who post about problems with them on the boards and other places are probably ONLY the ones with those SE's.  I can say, so far (fingers crossed) all I've noticed in this first month of arimidex is a slight headaches daily that goes away fairly quickly.  Bothersome, but I don't even take anything for it.  Could be something else, but I'm pretty sure, that's what it is.

And you know what?  I had hip/shoulder and feet problems just prior to this after all the chemo.  Thought perhaps it was the lack of estrogen so quick this past few months!  NOT!  I started getting a taste back for my chocolates and guess what? NO more hip/feet and shoulder stiffness and aches!  Hmmmmmmmmmmm...could it be???

Well, off to get something done...........don't want to, but really should! :)  Enjoy the sunny Sunday and wrap a {{hug}} around each of you for me! :D

Sal - I will be taking Tamoxifen too (for 5 yrs.) after finishing the rads...the most common SE I've heard anyone say, is that it made them nauseated and sometimes a headache... I know a lady that is 62 and she had BC 12 yrs. ago... had a mastectomy and has been on Tamoxifen ever since (12 yrs) not 5 yrs...  She said she convinced her Dr. to keep her on it, because she felt so much better being on it after her body got used it and she thought that if she stayed on it, her chances of reccurrence were slim, her Dr. agreed and she's been on it ever since... No problems now at all, she said I should talk to my Dr. about doing that too... she also said her Dr. has since kept other patients on it longer as well....   Good Luck!

wishiwere - My son was drafted to play for the Detriot Tigers (major league) but when your a 1st year draftee, you first have to play at the Rookie Level which is considered the Minor League or Farm league... the White Caps are what they call "Single A" in the Minor leagues, then you move up as you progress to "Double A" (AA) then AAA before being called up to the actual Major League System(Detroit Tigers), he played at the Rookie Level for the Gulf Coast League of the Detroit Tigers in Lakeland FL (all still a part of the Detroit Tigers Organization) last summer and has advanced to the White Caps (A) for this season... Confused even more now? ... it may take him 2-3 season's to be "Called Up" to play at the Major League Level of the Detroit Tigers....Whewwwww....Anyway, he is looking forward to it... He is a pitcher...Also, the Great Lake Loons is a team they played last week...he would be playing against them in June possibly, if his able by then...

    Got to go make supper....

    Love and Hugs to all,

    Jeannie

Hi all. Saw my gyn yesterday and had a lovely internal/external ultrasound done.  Turns out I have eight centemeters of fibroids (we hope that's what they are) and so I have to have a hysterectomy and have ovaries removed as well.  I'm supposed to call him whenever I feel like doing it.  I think I'll have it done in the fall.  I have to go see my radiologist on Thursday for my first appointment.  TAtoos and such.  I'm a bit nervous, although I'm not sure why.  So glad chemo is over, but taxol isn't letting go very easy.  Still have leg pain today and normally I'm feeling pretty good right now.  Keep me in prayer as I still have a ways to go.

So good to hear your doing well Amy.  I'm glad surgery is behind you now.  Now you just have to recover.  Isn't spring just such a wonderful time for healing?  I love the warmth and sunshine we are finally getting even if we still have snow everywhere.

Cindy!!  You're finished!  Congratulations to you girl!!

Hang in there Jeannie, almost done!!!

Everyone else, Those who have finished chemo and those starting or finishing up rads,  your in my thoughts and prayers.  I'll be eating chocolate cake this weekend to celebrate finishing chemo and I'll be thinking of all of you as well!!

Jeanie, no, you explained that fairly well I think.  Then again, I was lost so any direction was good on my part!  So thank for that! :D  Hope he gets moved up as he would like! :)

Kate!  Oh man!  That's a lot of fibroids there!  Whew!  Seems like it's never ending I'm sure, but there will be an after treatment time in your life!  Just hang in there!  I know, easy from this side hey?  Wishing you comfort in this next stage with no problems from Rads.  Good luck with the tattooing. Can't imagine, since both my girls have them and I said I'd never do it.  Thankfully I was spared that with the mast, but..............will be thinking of you through your dotting!  Hope it's painfree... Good Luck!

My surgery date is getting closer and closer too, soon the nerves will hit.

Ugh Kate about the fibroids.  I  have had one of those lovely internal u/s, not a huge deal but still ick.

I am hoping to see some hair growth soon too in those darn baldy spots.

Kim -- are you close to Comstock, MI? ... my son will coming to Michigan soon I think... He is feeling better every day...Alot of the younger players who are in the minor leagues stay with Host Families and he is hoping he will get put with a really nice family..  I hear the weather in the summer is just beautiful there...He will be playing for the West Michigan White Caps.

Ditto to what wishiwere asked about what kind of surgery are you having?   and when?  will put you on my prayer list...

Sal - Thanks for the cute little (imaginary) happy image... that is sweet of you.

My throat is a little sore today, but I'm thinking it is just from the drainage to the back of the throat...Called the Onc. today and they said that as long as I wasn't running a fever and things don't get any worse, we were still on for FINAL treatment friday  ......(X) crossing fingers......WooooHooooo!!! My surgery is scheduled for April 30 at 7:30a.m. !  I am having a unilateral mastectomy with reconstruction ( expanders ).

Jeannie congrats on moving to your last tx... what a wonderful feeling that is!  I had my herceptin today and just feel a tad tired, of course this could have nothing to do with the herceptin LOL

Good Luck today Jeannie!  Whoohooo!  LAST one!  That's great!

I feel so guilty not having had rads like you are in for or into right now.  I wish I could take some of the SE's for you....well, not really, but I can keep in good thoughts from here!

Lori, you are sounding wonderful, keep that up!  Hope you have NO SE's from the rads!  Are you getting them right or left sided? I was really afraid of that b/c mine would have been left sided.  As it turned, I didn't have to do them. Thank heavens.  Did you have nodes involved?  I couldn't remember.  And YES!   I Worked on the gardens for some time yesterday off and on.  One armed, most of it, so it's slow going, but I think it's loosening up this frozen from the last few days!  :D

As for me, I'm doing great.  Had a mole removed this last monday and got the results today.  B9!  YEAH!  Small, but pertinent win all the same! Whew!  What's one more scar hey?  :(

Hope everyone is feeling better for the weekend with their moans, groans, aches and pains and just ucky feelings!  May the sunshine bloom on your faces!  :D  Have a great one!

    Hi all!

Sal, I totally hear you girl!!  I've completely given up the bandana's and am sporting my VERY short hair around town.  Today I had my sunroof open and I actually felt some movement....not quite how my hair use to blow in the wind but it's a start and I'll take it!!

Had follow up visit with the medical oncologist and at the end of the appointment she had no addressed the Tamoxifen and when I brought it up she said they had re-ran my slides (that were done at a different hospital) and instead of being ER-/PR+, they were actually both negative!!!  I'm actually glad I went thru chemo and surgery "dumb" to that fact.  I'm not going to work myself up over it now either.  She was not concerned about it and just confirmed that based on the studies they know that women that have a complete remission with the chemo (like me) do much better long term.  So at this point I'm going to finish rads (28 more) and move ahead!!

WishIwere, Yes...it is my left side!!  Hoping for the best and moving forward!!  Isn't today beautiful!!  DD and I are getting ready to go for a walk!!

Oh...And I was down 3 pounds today!  Yahoo!!  Now 22 to go to get rid of what I gained during chemo!!

Have a great day all!!  Lori

Hey everyone!   Well it's done!!!!  I finally finished toay.... OOHHH YEEAAAAHHHHH!!!!!   Yippeeee!!!!!Laughing....  Hard to believe... I also found out today that my ONC is closing his practice and going into GP with another group.... He was trying to finish the last of his Chemo pt.s... he only has a few more after me... but he has referred me to the Cancer Center close by for the rest of my Herceptin because that is where I will go anyway for my Radiation.....I have an appt. on Tuesday w/ my Breast Surgeon for my check up after chemo and to get my referral to the Cancer Center for the Radiation Onc.

Lori --- congrats on losing the pounds....Keep up the good work... I'm glad to know that I'm not alone in the gaining "Chemo Weight"... can't wait to get MY body back and feel like getting back on the treadmill...

Thanks again to everyone, I had each and everyone of you in my prayers and thoughts today as I completed my treatments.....

Going to lie down awhile... I'm a little tired, but not too bad on the SE's so far.....(X) crossing fingers and knock on wood...

Loriann ...I am just outside of Detroit in Grosse Pointe.  Clarkston I know the area.  My kids love to ski/snowboard at Pineknob.  We also visit Great Lakes Crossing too which is up that way.  how soon after chemo did your hair come in??? I am seeing some hair growth with the hair that never fell out but still searching frantically for hair in the bald spots.  I am so wanting my hair bacK!  at least enough to have a cool short haircut.

Jeannie... no SE at all so far is great hope it stays that way!

And yet another beautiful day in Michigan!  Hope it is for everyone else as well! The windows are flung wide, the heavy winter curtains removed (well most of them) and it's a brighter, and lighter feeling all around!  At least I can enjoy for another month till the road crew start digging up to widen our road out front :(  Oh well, it's a small worry considering I'm hear to grumble about it! :D

Have a Great Weekend, Jeannie, rest well and hoping for you to have very little if any SE's!  LORI!  GREAT on losing the 3 #'s!  Here's to the rest you will drop now that you've started!

Kim, I'm very close to Pine Knob..about a 5 minute drive..if that and am over by Great Lakes Crossing very often too!!  Hair....it seems like it started a bit before I even finished the taxol.  At one point I had razor shaved my head so as soon as even a prickle came in I could feel it.  I may be bragging about it just because I'm proud of it but don't get me wrong....it's still VERY short!!  But my mom and niece say it looks like it gets longer everyday!  I would say it looks pretty close to Cindy's thumbs up avatar picture...only with a lot more grey!!  LOL  I am loving being without the bandana though!!  Just hope it keeps it up so I have a little to work with for Vegas....9 weeks away... so just a bit thicker would be nice!!

Hope all of you are well!!  Lori

Hello BC Butt Kicking Ladies !

Lori, great news that you are ER and PR positive, more points for you! Is your MD going to put you on Tamoxifin at the completion of rads? I had txs leftsided, so I do have some heart worries, but try not to be concerned until an md tells me to worry. I used the aquaphor ointment/creme atleast twice a day ( yes, greasy, ugh), but was told my skin held up better than most. Let us know your final tx day!

Sal, the peach fuzz sounds wonderful. My girlfriend colored mine with a L'oreal box "natural blond, max grey cover", sounded good, but it came out very yellow. Two days later, I was more a natural blond hue ( thank goodness). Three weeks later, I am now blond with WHITE highlights, and really thick. From those I do not know, I don't even get second looks. It's those who know me, but have seen me with hats the past 5 months ,who  still give my hairdo the double takes.

Jeannie, WAY TO GO !!!!!!!!!!!! Hoooooray for you !! You crossed the finish line, enjoy !!

Amy, hope you are recovering well from your surgery.

To all you beautiful ladies, I wish you a day filled with smiles and good health, cause you deserve it all !!!! xo cindy

Ok one down. My computer is on the major fritz. This is the first time I have gotten it to run in a week. It goes in for service sometime today.

Congratulations to all you lovely ladies who can now go topless. I am still on the bench as my fuzz is sooo white you cant see it except in certain light. On a brighter note I've noticed I have a short dark stubble starting to poke through in patchy areas of the head, maybe this is the real hair coming in. Im still dropping the eyebrows slowly and down to almost nothing, but eyelashes are coming through (real short, baby hair fine and curling in all different directions) I drive around all the time without a hat and it feels good, maybe another month and I can go out in public with it.

I'm all set to start my rad simulation on wed, will wait to see what they recommend for creams and such to help with burns. So far I have pure aloe, no additives or color and a couple of shelf bra tank tops. Mine is also left side.

Ive stepped up my walking to 3 miles in the morning (45min) not what it used to be but im sure it will take a while (and more than walking) to get back in shape. All in all I feel better than I have since last summer. Its a real good feeling!

Its nice to see everyone is in better spirits with chemo, some rads and extra surgery out of the way. Much love, hugs and spring sunshine to brighten your days, SuzPhotobucket
