Hello everyone it is nice to have you all to talk to.  I am 52 years old and I am fighting bc for the fourth time.  When I was 43 I had stage 0 calcification.  One year later had stage 1 on the other breast.  5 years later had stage 3.  And now I have stage 4.  I have had cemo radiation removal of breast and reconstrution and I still keep getting bad news.  I have done every thing that the drs have told me to except I decided to have a mascetomy the 2nd time against the wishes of my oncologist.  Maybe if I had them both remove the 1st time I would not be going through this.  I am still going to fight this again with Gods help but, I am still wondering what if? I am now doing Zometa and Faslodex once a month.  They cannot do a tumor maker because my blood does not have some kind of protein in it.  Does anyone else have this problem?

I don't have the same problem as you, but please know that someone will be here shortly with answers.  In the meantime, prayers and gentle thoughts are coming your way.

    Hi Dfleaman,

Nice to meet you, Don't do the "what if ", you'll drive yourself crazy..I was dx in 2000 with b/c , I had bilateral (my choice ) I had chemo, radation, I went into trial Herceptin for 1 yr.(new drug back then) and took tamox for almost 5 yrs , and STILL had a recur to my lungs 5 1/2 yrs after original dx.. I basically took everything they could throw at me..I went through 2 yrs of chemo again with herceptin and for the time being I'm in remission. I still get herc. every 3 weeks, and lupron shots monthly. I don't have that problem with the tumor markers ,in fact that is how my recur was found. Mine seem to be very accurate. I know not everyones are though. Good luck with everything you are going through right now, and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayer, wishing you a beautiful spring...Hugs KLynn

    Defleaman,

I am so sorry you are continuing this battle, once again. I wish I had the answers that you seek. I ask them myself. In March of 2007 I was diagnosed with IDC. I chose to have a Mastectomy and went as aggressive as my Onc suggested. I had DD AC followed by DD Taxol. I gave myself Neupogin shots between treatments and kept myself healthy so I wouldn't miss a treatment. Since my Cancer was a triple negative, there was nothing "extra" I was given. I thought I did everything right.

Two weeks ago I was diagnosed with a new primary in the other breast. It is very early and very small. I have chosen to have another Mastectomy on April 22. Until I get the final pathology report, I'm not sure what, if any, treatment I'll have.

I, too, wonder what if...what if I had a double Mastectomy last year? Perhaps I wouldn't be going through this again. What if it comes back again, somewhere else? I am terrified that my body will fail me again. I will fight this with everything I have because there's too much in life to leave behind. I would just like to have my sense of wellbeing back. I'd like a written guarantee that my body will remain healthy and I'll live to see 100!

    Linda

My heart goes out to you. you are very strong and keep your head up. I'm going through testing again because they believe it may be back and it was actually detected thru CA 15 bloodwork but I dont know anything about the protein. Wish I had more info.
