I came across these in a link from Erica's 'Breastfree' site.(supergelproducts.com)

Has anyone ever used them? They say they can be used after a mast.I'm not really sure how they work, since they are not silicone.

Any input would be gratefully appreciated; I had a single mast, no recon and would like to look a little bigger than my 34A!

    Hi sam52,

The PALS, as you know, are a silicone alternative. The big plus is that they're soft like silicone and look quite real but they're much less expensive than silicone. They can be worn directly against your skin and the manufacturer claims that, since mineral oil is one of the components, they actually moisturize your skin! You can also wear them in a pocketed bra. For me, they feel nice against my skin, but if I wear them for any length of time, particularly in warm weather, they do cause me to perspire. It's not really a problem while I'm wearing them. I just notice it when I take them off!

The smallest size in the triangle form is a B on me and I'm also a 34 band width, so that would probably be true for you, too.

ddd, who used to post here, likes these forms very much. I've found a couple of drawbacks, though. They're harder than silicone to maintain. After wearing them, they should be washed, patted dry, and dusted with cornstarch or other powder. They shouldn't be left on wood or other finished surfaces, since the oil that acts as a moisturizer can actually stain the surfaces. I put mine in plastic ziploc bags. If they are dusted properly with powder, the forms feel really nice and dry--not at all "oily".

Another drawback for me is that the PALS are on the heavy side--that is, they won't be any lighter than a traditional silicone form. But if you're going with the small size to achieve a B cup, that shouldn't be an issue for you.

The third thing, not necessarily a drawback, is that the company infuses the forms with a very slight vanilla odor. If you call them to order, you can ask them to send a pair without the vanilla added.

Bottom line--PALS are an inexpensive alternative to silicone prostheses. At only $50 per pair, if they appeal to you at all, they're worth a try. When they arrive, they're in sealed plastic bags. If you look at them and hold them up, etc., while still in the bags, and decide you don't want them, I believe you can return them.

I would love to hear from anyone else who has tried these. I have them on my website (BreastFree.org) since I try to find non-silicone options, but I really haven't had much feedback about them.

Thank you so much ,Barbara, for your informative reply.

I am a little puzzled how a 'pair' would work, since I have a single unreconstructed mast side and one 'normal' side.Would I have to get a pair that was of different sizes?I am thinking of my current prosthesis that brings my mast side to look the same as the other side.

I am also a little concerned about possibly having to send them back, since I live in UK.But I guess that would be worth the risk in order to get something good.

Any further thoughts on this would be appreciated.

    Hi Sam,

I think they only come in pairs, but you would obviously only need one. You could possibly call them and see if they would send you a single for half price. Or, you could just have the second one as a back-up.

It does seem more challenging to order them from the UK--obviously, the shipping costs would be higher. Have you googled PALs to see if there are any sites in the UK that sell them? That would certainly be easier.

Also, have you looked at the Photographs section at BreastFree.org? If you go to the group entitled After Bilaterals, Part 2, you'll find photos of PALs in the second row, including how they look in a bra on a woman who has had a mastectomy . These photos might be more helpful to you than the photos on the PALs website and give you a sense of whether you want to go ahead and order them.

Thanks, Erica - but  I did google it and there is no UK site.

I was hoping to get a pair....because not only do I want one for the mast side, but I want to enhance my natural side too! I thought it would be nice to look more than an A cup if I could. So maybe they would do an 'odd pair'?

I have seen your photos...your site is brilliant....didnt realise someone was wearing PALs..will go and have another look.

    Thanks again,

    Sam
