Marin, you  get on with your bad self!  Fixing that table!!  Isn't it nice to be able to take care of things.

Tonight, I came home and in my pool was a mouse or baby rat!!!!!  And a lizard at the bottom of the pool!  My girlfriend was laughing her butt off how I  scooped them out and didn't flinch!  Hello!!!!???  Can't flinch in front of company!

Oh Jaybird, you're hilarious! I do hear ya about the age preference though. What amazing cougars we are, huh?

NEWAYZ, everyone is getting sick of my table leg story and many think me fairly insane to be so proud. But I know you all get it! Next....mounting a glass shelf in my half bath. I think I can, I think I can, I think I can.......Wink

Marin good for you stay proud. Gals I need some help with a shower head that just won't come off I even had a hefty neigbour come in and try it won't budge. I want to put a water saver head on it instead.  And the hot water tank up in the new apt isn't working right, I'm pretty sure the bottom element is kaput.  One tip off is that the water is extremeley hot no matter what the temp is set at.  Thats a job I can't do because it's in a closet on top of a shelf thats taller than me.  Shit.  Here's hoping that it's a hydro tank and they can replace it.  One other water problem I have to deal with but to tired.  The tap on cold water to the wash machine was replaced last year and now it leaks like crazy when I do a load of laundry so I have to fix it but wish I wasn't so tired and lazy.  I'm pretty sure I just have to rerap so teflon tape around it properly, and if that doesn't work it's off to freecycle to find a new washer someone is giving away.  Anyone ever check out freecycle it's really amazing lots of good stuff given away, only thing is you have to give something first. I gave an Ikea shelving unit and ton of clothes but that was a year ago so I will have to go through my stuff and give stuff away and hopefully get a washer, there was a lady that actually got a used care given to her. It really is a great site, better than filling our landfills with so much garbage, thats why I love it so much.  Give it a look it's everywhere.  And good luck its like a little treasure chest.

Marin, regarding your shelf, make sure you use a level when you secure both sides.

Pearl, frequently it won't budge due to mineral deposits. Try soaking it in some vinegar in a plastic bag overnight. No, I'm serious! Cool Just secure it around the neck of the showerhead with some twist-ties so that the connection is submerged in the vinegar. Next morning, wrap a dry cloth around the connection and apply your wrench. If it was mineral deposits, the acid in the vinegar will have softened/dissolved them.

You can turn your appliances, faucets and maybe even your cat into a stainless steel marvel.  Well, maybe not the cat.  I am getting it for my door handles!!!!  Instead of buying new silver ones ... I have so many tarnished brass ones, this will be way cheaper and easier.

You do this yourself???? OMG, I can't imagine Surprised! Wait a minute.....maybe I can!  Brass....that's what it takes....you must have a ton, Rockmom!

I'm too exhausted from my leg table repair and, so, will be putting off the glass shelf for a bit. It's funny (pathetic?) though....when I read your warning about using a level, guess what my first thought was? I'm thinkin' "hmmmmmm, maybe I can meet a guy with a level"! OY!

LIsa thanks, I can't believe I forgot that trick, I did that at a friends house in Dryden.  Her shower was just trickling so I wrapped a baggie full of vinegar around the showerhead and the next morning I'm getting dressed and Toni is getting ready to take a shower, all of a sudden I hear this scream and then I remembered I wrapped the shower head, so I'm banging on the bathroom door yelling at Toni to shut off the water. Well Toni was standing there staring at the bag stretching she just couldn't fiquire out what the heck it  was.  I'm at the door yelling don't let the bag burst, I was afraid she'd get the vinegar in her eyes.  Well she finally turned off the water, what a hoot she still tells her friends about that story. But her shower worked really well after that.  So I will hang a bag tonight and try unscrew it tomorrow again.  Thanks.

Okay, so I'm not the craftiest person around but I do on occasion apply myself and actually create something.

I am building a sandbox for my dauthter. Not the hardest thing in the world to make but hopefully she'll like it, and maybe even more than a store bought plastic one?

I framed it this evening, now all I have to do is attach some weed block and then figure out what kind of cover I'm going to make for it.

I've been hauling 50# bags of sand from Menard's all week (my Jetta and my back can only handle a few bags at a time) so I'm very excited about this project. It's much easier than replacing a toilet!!!

I came home last night to a smell of something hot in my kitchen, I figured out that it was the table top water heater that has been in the house since before I bought the house 18 yrs ago. It is a good thing I knew to cut the power to the heater (elements overheating), where the cut off was to the water supply, and how to drain the tank. I unfortunately cannot replace it myself, am having handy-man (cousin) come over this afternoon to take out the old and put in a new tankless water heater.

It is good to know where the breaker box is and have each of the breakers labeled what it cuts off and where the water cut off valve is for various locations of the house. We had pipes replaced about 7 yrs ago and plumber put 2 cut off valves under the house one to cut off to the house except the cold water to the kitchen sink, and one to cut off the cold water at the kitchen sink. If I did not have that second cut off, I would not have had any water at the house at all.

    Update on the sandbox:

Avery ate some sand toady - how the heck do I stop that from happening??? This was after her sitting under the mulberry tree and getting herself (and clothes) stained from eating mulberries!

Stella (the puppy) dug into the sand, wrecking the weedblock under the sand, before I could get the cover on - grrrrr!

But, I'm proud of my 'handy-girl' job and hopefully there will be some fun times had in the sandbox. Since both Avery and Stella like to put the sand OUT of the sandbox it's in a grassless spot (Mama dain't THAT dumb) but I'm sure there will be more "ack" moments than "ahhh" moments associated with this sandbox!  (sigh)

Update on the sandbox: Puppy Stella tore through two tarps and that's where we are at. I need to buy/make a cover but I haven't so the tear has a board over it with some bricks weighing it down. So much for my 'project'!

I bet you could go to a pool supply store and order a cover for it.  We used to have a cover for our hot tub and it was heavy enough to stand on, but it was really easy to take off ... and you could lift one side and fold it over on top of the other side.

Fixed my toilet yesterday .... it was easy, it was only the flapper ...  I didn't realize until yesterday, that the flappers can fit 3 different types of mechanisms .. I just had to cut off the collar where it said and the flip it in there.

Rock, thanks for the idea. I've seen those type of covers on hot tubs. I was wanting this 'project' to be a cheap one - HA! I think I should have just bought the plastic turtle sandbox thing.....
