I was just at my salon. I am so mad! My hair is coming out in clumps, got a short hair cut, looks cute. I know it will be temporary though!

Anyway, the owner of the salon came up to me and said that she wishes she would have known before hand that I was choosing to go through chemo. She said that if you use Nioxin products on your hair 30 days before chemo and all through chemo that you will have a 90% chance of no loosing your hair! HAS ANYONE EVER HEARD THIS BEFORE? If this is true than why don't the oncologists tell us?

Too late for me, I am thinning so badly! But if this thread can help others that would be great!

I don't believe it. The owner probably had a client who was receiving chemo drugs that had no hair loss or only thinning (CMF?).

Cytoxan, Adriamycin, Taxol, Taxotere ... you're going to lose it all.

But it starts coming back pretty quickly.

    It's just hair.

I haven't heard that before although I have heard of women having success with hair regrowth using Nioxin...but after they've lost their hair.

I just started using it 2 1/2 weeks ago and can't tell any difference yet in the thickening or growth of my hair.   I stopped chemo last Sept and have about two inches of hair all around my head.   It's much thinner than normal though and I was hoping the Nioxin would help replenish the thickness.

My stylist, a survivor herself, swears by the product.  It might be the case of what works for one, doesn't work for another.  However, to prevent total hair loss?  I've never heard that claim before.

Lisa....That's crap...at least it is untrue in my case. As soon as I was diagnosed, I discussed it with my hairdresser and he gave me a bottle of Nioxin right then & there and told me to use it to just give me whatever edge it might when my hair started to fall out. He kind of implied that it might be preventive against loss without actually saying so. So I used it religiously. But once the Red Devil found my follicles.....whoosh....gone! And really, if Nioxin were stronger than Adriamycin, we'd be using IT in our IVs instead!

Don't believe it and, for goodness sake, don't look back or beat yourself up for any reason right now. You're doing exactly what you should be doing....undergoing extreme therapy to regain your full health. That's all that counts!

Hang in there, girl, and buy yourself a sexy wig or some beautiful hats or scarves. And soon enough, you'll be seeing those cute little sprouts all over your head heralding the growth of brand new hair that you should, then, wash with Nioxin. It's an awesome experience and something to look forward to!

    Hi all,

I wanted to add my experience with Nioxin.  I didn't have to do chemo (knock on formica) so far, so good.  But my hair has started thinning out from Arimidex.  So I've been using Nioxin for a week.

This morning I was in a big hurry, so I sprayed on the stuff and quickly combed it through my hair, but a big drip went down the side of my face.  I wiped it off as I ran around getting the kids up, dog fed, etc...

And then I looked in the mirror.  It left a big red welt!  It slowly went away after an hour.

Maybe they should be giving it to us in IV's!Wink

I don't believe that at all. I did use it the whole time I was going through Chemo and I do think it helped my hair come in sooner???

Who knows??? My last Chemo was in March 2006 my first haircut was July

    Twingle,

You had your haircut 4 months after chemo or July of 2007?
