    Hi my name is Val and I know that the 3 day walk is happening in October, but I was trying to find out if there will still be local walks. I live in the Point Pleasant Beach NJ area and every year, in October, they have one. I cannot find anywhere on the internet if there will be one this year. Can anyone out there tell me? Thanks, Val

    Hi Val,

    Check with the American Cancer Society near you. I participated in their "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" walk last October. I think it's a growing movement for them so hopefully they'll have one near you. In my area (Central Florida) right now the ACS is doing several "Relay for Life" walks. You may be able to participate in one of those.

    I have signed up to do the Avon Walk (2 days) in New York City in October. I did it the year before last. I'm really excited as it's time to get serious about training although it can be grueling in Florida in August and September in Florida. Even if I start walking at 6:00 a.m. to try to beat the heat, it doesn't matter as I'm still walking at 2:00 p.m. and it's 90 degrees with humidity at about 80%. It takes a long time to walk 20+ miles:-) but it was a life-changing experience to gather with so many people fighting to stop this horrible disease.
