Cancer In Fibrocyst

    Hi All,

Since I am tri-neg, I am posting this question here but open to all. Not sure which forum would be best.

I discovered a large lump in my breast 6 years ago. After a mammo and u/s it was determined to be fibrocystic. I was told I could leave it alone. It would come and go with my periods. Then I had my last period in October 2005 and the cyst was small and did not bother me. In April 2007, I had another period????? The cyst became painful as it usually did during my periods. But the pain never went away and I knew something was not right. I had it removed and the surgeon was sure it was just fibrocystic from the looks of it. But cancer was found in the center.

Has anyone else found their cancer in a fibrocyst? I was told it is rare, but it does happen. Had I known that, I would have had that booger removed 6 years ago. As it was I opted for a double because I had other cysts all over both breasts. (though none as large). I am curious because I don't think women are being told to have fibrocysts removed. I know I wasn't. I have talked with other women who have fibrocysts. I don't want to scare them, but I now tell them to watch them and if they get and stay painful, have them removed.

BTW, I had a clean mammo in Jan 07 and dx bc August 07 2.7 cm. Not sure how fast it grew.

I don't have any experience with fibrocysts but two of my sisters do so I'll pass the info on Debbie.  Thanks.

I had a clean mammo in August of 2006, found the lump two months later in October and was finally diagnosed January 2007.  Mammos aren't the greatest diagnostic tool for fibrous, dense breasts.

    Hi Twink,

I just read your post.  I love the phrase at the end.  Humor is so important, isn't it?  How are you doing?

    Warmly,

    Sadie

    Hi Twink,

Wow, a major business deal and a relocation to TX.  You are having a lot of transitions and change.  Life keeps us moving, doesn't it.  I've been looking for a new office, which in comparison is a little transition.

My mood goes up and down since my oncologist mentioned she was exploring an autoimmune disease, like Lupus.  I have to wait 4 more weeks to have the blood work to rule it out.  Most of the time I can be satisfied to wait and not worry,... at least until I know I have something to worry about.  Less often, I can feel discouraged. I tend to bounce back quickly though.

Next weekend I am going to the beach!  The beach always lifts my spirits.  I can't look at the ocean without feeling empowered and in awe.  During the spring, the flowers are just gorgeous and I love to read a nonsense book that doesn't take a lot of thinking.  Of course the wind hitting my hair is especially delightful.  I can't wait.

I hope things are falling in place for you.  I'm sure there is lots to do.

    Have a good evening.

    Warmly,

    Sadie
