    I had a problem after my last chemo with high blood pressure for 3 or 4 months.  My doctor though it even could have been my pain level with my server neuropathy.  I had it checked at my last to appts and it was very high. (not a good time when your stressed, plus most nurses do not know how to take your BP on the leg.)  I was wonder if any of you know how to manage this without drugs?

    I do not eat salt anymore.   I get moderate exercise right now.  I have a no-fat diet.  What else can I do before going back to the doctor for more drugs.

    Hmm, seems to me a read a long time ago that the Morton KCl (potassium chloride) substitute helped some with hypertension.

    You can find it at most major grocery stores by the salt: same blue and white small shaker.

    Avoid Licorice, that can elevate bp.

    If you're on any high dose non steroidal antiinflammatory, they can cause kidney change, elevate your creatinine and cause fluid retention which may elevated bp. Even supplemental type NSAID's may have this effect.

    Might wish to run through your prescription agents and your supplements and see if any cause blood pressure elevation. I tried to link a website I thought would allow this, but it's been taken down.

    Here is a link to the MSKCAM site: about herbs, having searched under high blood pressure. It lists 64 herbs to review. Maybe this will help;

    http://www.mskcc.org/mskcc/html/58481.cfm?SummaryDisplay=none&Criteria=high+blood+pressure&x=0&y=0

    Lastly, give yourself a treat today, and lower you bp by eating some dark chocolate. A little bit should do it.

    Hope this helps,

    Tender

    Thanks Tender, I have added a few new things, maybe one of them is causing me problems. I'll look them up on this site.

    Thanks,

    My blood pressure has been much higher than usual since the BC diagnosis.  I believe it is the estrogen dominance which I am still fighting.  It causes water weight gain, which can fuel HBP.

    Have had some luck bringing it down with Black Cohosh and progesterone cream although the docs are mixed on if either is a good idea for hormone + cancer survivors.

    My opinion, is I have to balance all the info with quality of life issues.

I also use maitake mushroom . Together they have helped my bp to be normal . I had taken lisinipril for years and only when I began these two alternatives,did i improve. I still take my bp meds but now my bp is remarkably improved. hope this helps.
