I started Taxol/Herceptin on December 23rd. 2007. My last Taxol is next Friday - February 23rd. I will continue Herceptin until December this year. Can someone please tell me what "NED" means?
-
hi, this is nancy, it means no evidence of disease!! i too have finished adriamycin and cytoxin and taxol. my hair is statrting to come in and i feel very good,i will continue on herceptin until october of 08.
i am still slightly depressed, hopefully that will improve as spring nears. i am starting to think about reconstruction, i dont wearing the prosthesis but,my clothing options seem a little limited. does anyone know if reconstruction will provide that bit of cleavage for v necks or lower cut blouses? thanks, nancy.
-
Hi,
dx 5/06, Stage IIb. last herceptin 9/07.
all clear so far!
-
Still NED here too and you can see my details below!
-
diagnosed 2-06, last herceptin 1-7-08. pet scan in feb. showed hot spots which biopsy march 12th confirmed bc. sorry to be the first with progression even during treatment.
-
I'm also NED. My PET scan 2 weeks ago was clean as a whistle. Will continue on Herceptin til the end of July
Nancy, I too was depressed after finishing chemo but as the weeks go by and I am finding my energy again and the depression has decreased lot. My mother died when i was in the middle of chemo last summer (from Parkinson's) and I think I waited until chemo was done to allow myself to feel anything. No wonder I was so down. Now when I think of her I smile
I had reconstruction and I love it-size B plus. I got a non-wire bra from Victoria's Secret and now can push up cleavage. Before mastectomies, I just flopped out of those bras when I bent over- not a pretty sight.

Maria,
I'm so sorry to hear that you have to deal with progression. Is Tykerb in your future?
You are in my thoughts -
thanks henny, right now i'm alternating between depression and anger but i'll perk up soon. i'm too dam stubborn to give up for a long long time. onc said tykerb and xeloda but i'm in process of setting up appts. at a couple of major cancer institutes for evaluation so we'll see. thank God i get copies of everything, it's making the process a little easier. i'm really glad herceptin is working for you. hugs, maria

My oncolgist said if a person is HER2/Neg w. +Er they can take hercept and other hormones?
What can really be taken to prevent recurrnaces for this type BC?
-
hi maria, are you from new jersey? i have cousins there i am very close too. hope you are well, please be strong and let me know if there is any thing i can say or do.
henny thanks for your kindness,i have seen a plastic surgeon and have decided to have reconstruction. i will keep you updated, love to all nancy.
-
Ve Banks Herceptin is only given for her2 positive BC. However, with ER+ BC there are several hormone therapies such as Tamoxifen or AI's depending on your menopause status.

I love to visit this thread every so often. I was dx 8-04, and fought hard to get Herceptin. Almost 4 years later, I am NED, and totally believe that Herceptin will keep me cancer free for life.

Hi girlie-girls,
I am new to all this chat--so who the hang is Ned? (I am assuming that is an acronym for essentially no...further cancer detected right?) I managed only 3 herceptin treatments (I had them once every 3 weeks), and I was on Tykerb...the latest fandangle drug (but I lasted only 10 weeks on that) both times because of heart issues.
So I am officially cancer drug free now, "ned" I believe, and enjoying the breather. (Anyone in my boat? Anyone taking/taken tykerb?),
Lovely to be able to come to this site to hear/see your voice, Rina

2/5/08 dx with IDC (see my signature);
3/3/08 unilateral right mastectomy with immediate DIEP;
4/23/08 first infusion of Herceptin & Navelbine to continue every other week for 4 months, then Herceptin alone for a year with Arimidex pill once-a-day for five years.

NED = No evidence of desise ( ok i cant spell)

Hi Girls,
Here is my info: DX August 2007, IDC, stage 1 or 11A (I've been referred to as both - 2 cm largest tumor) Had bilateral mastectomy October 2007 with immediate implant recon, 4 rounds of AC followed by 12 weekly taxol/herceptin along with daily doses of tykerb. I am currently having herceptin every three weeks and will continue this schedule until December 2008. Was originally supposed to continue daily tykerb until December also but am currently taking a 6-week breather due to complications (fingernail and toenail infections...very painful). May start agin on a lower dose after infection heals but will wait and see. At this point my onc. and I are assuming I am NED!!

Okay, I got diagnosed with Stage III Her2 a little over five years ago, and was treated with chemo + herceptin. Now I have had a recurrance to the liver. RATS!!!!!!
Anyway, on Tuesday I start another chemo (6 rounds) that will include herceptin, and I am pretty hopeful about it because I was NED for so long...
Ummm, what else? I don't know - oh, yeah, I had one positive node last time out. -
dx 12/05 at 39 yrs old., bilateral mas., 4a/c's and 4 her/taxotere and then an additional year and a half of herceptin...finished 07.06
infiltrated dcis with 1 mm idc in tissue, 4/11 nodes positive er-/pr-, her2neu +3.8. Have had 2 diep surgeries with one more to go and will be having a full hys. in a few months....cancer grade was 1.....is there a tykerb clinical trial foe earlier staged breast cancers???
-

Hi,
Just before I turned 53 yrs young, I found a lump in my breast in 2005, had a lumpectomy for a DCIS lump 3.2 cm, margins had a second breast cancer that was less than .5mm, but very aggressive (HER2/NEU+ ER+ PR-). I opted for a modified radical mastectomy-NO lymph node involvement. My cancer was stage 2. I did 4 treatments of AC then tamoxafin for three months than a year (Feb 2006-Feb 2007) of Herceptin (a treatment every 3 weeks). That was followed by arimadex for almost a year. Jan 2008 the cancer had metastasized, in my 6 bones, 2 lymph nodes, liver, and 1 adrenal gland...Herceptin and Zometa (for bones) started the first of Feb. an oral chemo tried but I had a bad reaction, April PET scan showed cancer in bones gone, liver stopped but new spots in liver, one lymph node stopped other still growing, adrenal gland growing, and new spot second adrenal gland as well as in lung. I'm now on weekly Herceptin with Taxol once a week for 3 weeks then a week off Taxol. I've had 7 taxol treatments 2 more to go before next PET scan. I'm still fighting, I'm not about to give up cause my goal in life is to outlive my husband! (his parents lived well into their 80's.)

This is a GREAT thread! Keep it going!!!!
