Bathing suit came today

Hi girls,
I ordered from Nicola Jane on Feb. 12th and just received my new tankini this morning. I am surprised it came so quickly. I also ordered some Anita bras and those arrived in the same package. The top of the tankini fits pretty true to size. The bottoms run small-I think lots of European brands run small on the bottom so I did order a size up. Probably should have ordered 2 sizes up.
Also, I received my lands end bathing suits this past weekend. I ordered the v-neck mast. tankini. It fits and looks great-better than other lands end suits I have.
-
How does the sizing run on the Lands End suits? They seem to have quite a few really cute tankinis, so I was considering ordering one. Do the tops come down pretty far? I'm 55, so I really don't feel like showing off my tummy! I do like that you can order the pieces separately. I like a leg that's a little higher cut, as my legs aren't all that long. They offer bottoms with a control liner that have the higher cut leg.
-
Yes, the tops cover down to the top of the bottoms. Did that make sense? In other words, when you have both pieces on it almost looks like a one piece. And, I am only 42 and don't like showing mine either. I should have been showing it off when I was in my 20s but I was too insecure. Youth wasted on the young.
I love that the pieces can be ordered separately. I am a 6 on top but an 8 on the bottom.
-
Carol,
I second your comment--youth is wasted on the young! I wonder why all those years when I had lovely breasts I was too modest (insecure?) to wear low-cut tops and show my cleavage.
Mthomp, I also found that the tankini tops cover to the top of the bottoms.

I used my new tankini for the first time on Tuesday when I went to my post-mastectomy water exercise class. Afterwards, when we were getting changed I had great trouble trying to remove the top. I had to call for assistance and two other women had to help me wrestle with it! Eventually we were able to get it off. It was a bit like skinning a rabbit!! Perhaps I should have bought a larger size...but lots of my other clothes are a size smaller than the tankini.

Skinning a rabbit!--gb, that sounds like me with sports bras! I bought a racerback-style sports bra a few years ago and nearly dislocated my shoulder trying to get it on and off. I finally threw it away.
So, since my mast/SNB 2 wks ago, I've been looking for a comfortable, snap-in-back sports bra (having given up on finding a snap-in-front one). It looks like almost all of them now are slip-over-the head style, which just won't work. I tried one on in a sporting goods store last week and came awfully close to calling my dh on his cell phone to help me get the darn thing off.

I'm very keen on those Bestform bras from Walmart. They are so inexpensive you can get enough to have them a clean one all the time.

I went onto the Nicola Jane web site and requested a catalog which came very quickly. Definitely a nice selection of swimsuits. Interesting that this kind of specialty mast store seems to do well in the UK (3 branches) but not in the US.
I just received my Janac sports bras. Also arrived very quickly. I wore one to dance class today and it was very comfortable. The pocket for the prosthesis is a little small for my regular prosthesis. I suppose that's because it's made for the Been-a-Boob that Janac sells. It's not a style that I would wear as a top but it's fine under a shirt. Also wish it came in a more cottony fabric. Overall a good product.

Went to Sears today and tried on some of the Lands End tankinis. They seem to fit well, and the tops do cover without a gap. I think I'll be ordering myself one or two.
caaclark - I did like the v-neck on the website. Most of the v-neck mastectomy suits I saw wouldn't work, and many of the scoop necked ones wouldn't either. Looks like the Lands End one might, though. When you're a single mast, it is harder to find things to wear, isn't it!

I just bought a regular suit and cut and sewed in an old mastectomy bra into it

I'm somewhat confused on what a swim form is. My form is an Amoena and the fitting attendant said I could use it for everyday and for swimming. Is that true or do I need a special one made for water (salt water and chlorine)?
-
I've noticed that many regular forms are now okay for swimming. Manufacturers used to recommend a special form for swimming (usually clear silicone, hollowed out in back). I guess they've improved the covering on the regular forms so they can withstand salt water and chlorine. The other benefit of the special swim forms (Amoena makes one) is that the hollowed out back allows water to drain out easily. I have a swim form but have also been swimming with my regular silicone form and both work for me. So, no, you probably don't need a special one.
-
I would also love to find a bathing suit. I noticed someone said Sears carried some.....do you think they would here too? Where can I look here or do you need to order from somewhere. I go swimming alot at the cottage, live in a bathing suit there.
Here's a dumb question......about getting into swim suit. Do you get ready at home or at the pool??? Just thinking about having to stuff the suit......when to do it??
-
Carol,
I just received a Nicola Jane catalog, but have also been looking at suits at Land's End. I like the Nicola J. styles better and am wondering if you're happy with the suit you ordered. Thanks!!

I just received my Land's End bathing suits. They were on sale for $19.00 each, so I got two. They fit fine.

Hi ladies:
I had my mastectomy in August last year. I developed a huge seroma, surgeon said it might take a year to go away. I have no idea what it's supposed to look like, but it looks like I have a C on side and an A on the other. I haven't been fitted for any prothesis or bras yet, because I think I should wait until the site is flatter. Does that make sense? I had a huge amount of swelling, much has gone away, but he said the dried blood part would take a long time. I am done with chemo (thank goodness) and am thinking about swimming. I have no clue what to do. I guess I need a suit, but I want something modest, I am down to a size 18 finally.
Any good places I should look? I guess I can use a shower puffy until I get a prothesis. I have been using the puffy foam things I got with my surgery camisoles. For a long time I did nothing, just decided to use one and look semi-equal. :-)
Thanks.
Nancy

Several of you have mentioned using a shower puffy in your bathing suits. I tried it and it looked all bumpy. What am I doing wrong? I had a bi-lat mast in December.
-
What type of bra do you have in your suit?
My suits have the cups that look like a thin layer of foam; the cups hide the bumps.
Before using, I ran my puffs through the washing machine (in a lingerie bag) and had a fabric softener in the rinse cycle. Made the puffs nice and soft.
I was on a cruise three weeks ago and had a shore excursion that included snorkeling. I needed to wear my swimsuit.
I used the puffs instead of my silicone prostheses. What a treat to feel weight free on my shoulders.
-
Can you wear your silicone prostheses in the water? I don't want to ruin a $600 pair of boobs. How fast do they dry? The bathing suits I have have no pockets but a light foam bra or pockets with no foam.
-
I was told that I could wear my silicone prostheses in the water.
At home, I go in my pool wearing a tank suit and no forms.
Lat October I was on (another) cruise, and wore my prostheses in the ship's pool.
Since I didn't sit around in my suit after swimming, my suit wasn't dry when I returned to my cabin to changed. I made sure I washed the prostheses off with a mild soap, rinse them and patted them dry with a towel. They were ready to pop back into my bra when I got out of the shower.
-
Shrink,
You might check with your fitter or with the manufacturer. More and more silicone forms are fine to wear swimming, but I think some may not be. My fitter told me it was fine to swim in my Nearly Me silicone forms and I've had no problem with them, though I more often wear my swim forms (hollow-backed silicone, so lighter weight).
I also sometimes use foam forms (Amoena Style 126), then rinse them and air dry them afterwards.
I've tried almost everything (though not the shower puffies).
