hi. i am having a bad time and this is the only place that i can go to. i am approaching my 5 year anniversary, after coming out of chemopause after my hip replacement in june, we decided to have another baby. i'm 39. i've had regular periods, right down to mood swings,bloating... now we've made the decision, for the past month my period came no more and i have been having never ending hot flashes and night sweats like i did thru treatment. i am still on effexor 150mg and no help. could this be real menopause? last time i was tested i wasn't even in menopause. has this happened to anyone else? could this be brain cancer..oh yeah i even considered that. my mood is bad too because i'm not sleeping. also have major stress and my mother in law moved in with us. which is not the age i was looking for when i wanted a baby. i am so befuddled with this and don't want to panic so if anybody has been thru this please let me know. thankyou

Have you checked to see what the side effects and Effexor might be for a feteous.  Also maybe just get a complete check up blood everyting maybe you have an infection somewhere and that could be the reason for the hot flashes.  Hows your temp when you get them.  Good luck a baby, nice.

Hi Harold: it seems that you have a LOT on your plate.  Stress does a lot of damage like missing periods, weight loss or gain, losing hair, etc....

Start by going to your gyno and asking him to run hormone level tests on you.

Also if you are intending to get pregnant, please read about all side effects any medication you take might transmit to your fetus/baby.

When I found out I was pregnant w/ my child, 13 years ago, I stopped immediately any medication I was taking.

Good luck and let us know how you made out.

Hope all you wish for comes true.

    Hi Harold,

I am not sure what type of chemo you had. I had chemo (Adriamycin, Cisplatin and DTIC) 21 years ago for bone cancer. At 28, I went through chemopause.

At about 39, my periods stopped for 5 months. I had the hot flashes, night sweats, etc. I went to my doctor and the homone levels said I was mid-cycle.  Hell of long cycle. Anyway, I had very erratic periods off and on with the all the SE of menopause until October 2006. Then I did not have another period until April 2007. Wierd but very fortunate. It caused my fibrocyst to act up again which prompted me to have it removed. Ta Da! Cancer in the center.

Anyway, my point is that I think chemo can cause some women to go into early menopause. My perimenopause lasted nearly 10 years with all the fun stuff and erratic periods.

If you are definetly wanting another child, check with your ob/gyn and let them know what drugs you are on and if it is ok to get pregnant while on them. Good news....I seriously doubt it is brain cancer. The symptoms are too obvious as to perimenopause.

Good luck on whatever your decision is.

    Debbie
