WOW, here it is Friday again already!!!!!
Is it just me or is this month winging its way merrily along quickly????
I thought I had another week before Easter until my daughter called yesterday and said that they are planning to come tonight for the weekend!!!!!!
Needless to say I made a quick trip into town last evening to do some Easter shopping!!!!!! there is no way I could deal with those little faces if I had no basket for them
I found the cutest egg for my son in law....its bright green and when you set it down this voice starts yelling: HELP!!!!! Is anyone out there???....Hey, Im stuck in here, let me out!!!!!
When my daughter told him last night that I had gotten him something she said he rolled his eyes!!!!! I cant imagine why.....I love him to pieces and he is sooooo much fun....I think that maybe he was a little worried because the last time I bought him with spiderman on them to match their little boys
Oh well, guess he will get use to a silly, dingy mother in law eventually
He has such a shy bashful smile that it thrills me to see it so he gets picked on alot
.
I will be having Easter dinner here Sunday for all my family...all my brothers and their families will be here except for one so there will be about 25 people counting kids....it will be such a fun day!!!!
I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday and hope to visit with you all again soon to hear all your stories...
Hugs

Jule, That's the way I keep track of this thread. I go to "My Home" first thing after signing in and then click on the couple of threads I visit all the time. Also on "My Home" there's a listing of the recent copmments I've made, maybe the last five or so.
Sandy, wasn't that a cute cartoon. I laugh every time I see it.
I hope everyone had a nice Sunday.

Thanks Jule on showing me how to make this a favorite post : )

Here you are!!! I knew there was a positive group out here!
What a glorious day today was in Houston! The sun was shining, all the azaleas are in bloom, and some brilliant person took all the stamens or pistals out of the Easter lillies in the sanctuary so those of us in choir could sing without sneezing!! All in all, a great day!
Have a wonderful week, everyone!
Cat

Catbert, I am glad that you found us. I wonder why nobody at my church thought to remove the stamens out of the Lillies. We have not used the Easter Lillies in the sancturary for several years because of the allergies in the choir. I wish that some of the other ladies would not use strong perfumes either. I had a great Easter weekend. My hubby came to the trucking hub on Thursday afternoon and had another delivery on Friday morning. Since the hub is 50 miles from the house and we have one car at the present, I have to drive back and forth to get him (usually twice a week, Sun and Fri/Sat), and since I had Friday off, I went to Statesville Thursday afternoon and we got a room and stayed the night. Friday I stayed at the hotel until 11:30 and he was on his way back. We got home Friday afternoon and spent the whole weekend together. I also got news from our son and he is doing well, the ship has left the gulf region on their way back to Honolulu. He will be home for Mother's Day.
Have a great positive week!

Hope all had an enjoyable Easter....I will write more later as Im at work right now...

Welcome, Catbert, Austin had fairly good weather this past weekend, too. I glad you found your way over to us.
Sheila, great news that your son is out of the war zone. We won't have to ask because I'm sure you will have a terrific Mother's Day.
Have a great week, everyone.
-
Hello all! Not really MIA but I cannot keep up with posting like I used to. Sheila so happy for you! Jule, we need to catch up on IM's soon. I work tonight and tomorrow so I will be online closer to your time zone! Debbie, how is the water class going? Welcome to those who found us and those who re-found us! Lori, how are the crafts coming? MissS, saw on another thread you have multiple ear piercings, hehee. Hope I got that right! Otherwise, I apologize.
DS is asking a girl out a date for the first time. The two of them have homeroom together but no classes. But he dances with her at school functions and she in turn writes on his hand, "Colleen was Here" or "Colleen loves Eric". Too cute. He texts her every day as well. He has saved up for a while since we have drilled into his head that "Dutch Treat" is NOT in his vocabulary. He has borrowed from his allowance too. I am so excited for him but hiding it from him but not from you guys or dh!!
Also, the end of the fills will be soon, only 3-4 to go. Then exchange surgery and recon all-in-one the end of May or beginning of June. I am able to work more hours and not too exhausted, well not too bad.
Gotta run! Time for a shower, go to my mom's assisted living for lunch and then to work. Long day today as one of the gals called out sick. Something about a melanoma and I hope she is OK. Cross your collective fingers.

Everyone Guess What? - - - IT'S FRIDAY!!!!!
I have been working this afternoon (after I got my job caught up) working on the cookbook the church is putting together. I 'volunteered' to do the typing. I really don't mind doing it and my boss said on Friday afternoons, because it is slow, if I have my work caught up I can type them here and bring my own paper to print out the copies to proof. I think I have about 100 recipes typed and am expecting 100 + more. (thinking to myself - what have I gotten myself into). I am having to clarify the recipes to meet the requirements of the publishing company we are using (morris press). We are hoping to get them ready to send off in June. Just reading these great recipes is making me hungry!
Have a great weekend.
Sheila
-
Hmmmm, maybe I can get one of these cookbooks when they are published or do they sell them to the public?
Im always looking for new recipes...
Hugs
Jule
-
Yes we are making them to sell to the public. If we get it sent to the printer in June, we should have it back in October. We are trying to pay off the mortgage where we added on to the church a couple of years ago.

Hi everyone,
Oh, Beth, I hope your son has a fun first date. Where did he decide to take her? My water aerobics is going along just fine, thanks. We got a new instructor for our Friday class. She's been at the club before and returned from having a baby girl a few months ago. She does more cardio work, where the other instructor did more upper body and arm work, but it is still a good class. It sounds like you have just a few more steps and you'll be finished with your reconstruction. Keep plugging along until you get there.
Hey, Sheila, if you see anything really good will you pass it on. I hope your fingers hold up and you get all the recipes into the correct format.
Jule, now that work is out of the way I hope you have a great weekend.
Has anyone else been following a team in the NCAA Tournament? Woo Hoo!! Texas has made it into the Elite Eight; one more win and they'll be in the Final Four. I choose UCLA to win it all when I did my bracket picks, but it would be nice to see Texas go all the way.
-
Hi Ladies just realized it's Friday again and wanted to stop in and say Hi. We got a few inches of snow yesterday it was crazy but had great sunshine all day and it's gone again. Great news I got my drain tube out and got my 1st fill : ). I'm looking forward to seeing some of my friends at the Easter Seal run even though I won't be running in it this year I can still sign up for the good raffles they always have. Hope everyone has a great weekend...

I found these lyrics on the breast cancer web site the other day and did a google search and found this video. I posted it earler this week but wanted to post it here also. If you have a few minutes check it out. It's very moving...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sEZHISEL4lk
If not here are the lyrics to the song:
It's been years since they told her about it
The darkness her body possessed
And the scars are still there in the mirror
Everyday that she gets herself dressed
Though the pain is miles and miles behind her
And the fear is now a docile beast
If you ask her why she is still running
She'll tell you it makes her complete
It's a blur since they told me about it
How the darkness had taken its toll
And they cut into my skin and they cut into my body
But they will never get a piece of my soul
And now I'm still learning the lesson
To awake when I hear the call
And if you ask me why I am still running
I'll tell you I run for us allAnd someday if they tell you about it
If the darkness knocks on your door
Remember her remember me
We will be running as we have before
Running for answers
Running for more I run for hope
I run to feel
I run for the truth
For all that is real
I run for your mother your sister your daughter your wife For you and me my friend I run for lifeSandy/Sunshine : )
I run for life

Thanks Sunshine ~ I'm actually a Melissa Etheridge fan but somehow missed this song she put out? I heard it for the first time right after I was diagnosed and it brought tears to my eyes. I am so glad I found this post, I finally feel like maybe I am not insane at all. I feel the same as many of the ladies here do ~ which is, life isn't always easy so you can choose happy or choose not, either way you have to carry on. I hope you all had a great week and have an even better weekend!
-
Thanks, Sandy, I'm always on the look out for good uplifting songs that I can add to my profile over on facebook, and that's the first thing I did after looking at the video.
Welcome Flyrzfan. I like your attitude and your signiture. We're having gloomy weather here today, but I don't have to be gloomy.
I managed to go to my water aerobics on Mon, Wed, and today. I went to an earlier class on Wed because my massage therapist had only one appointment available on Wed morn. The classes and the massage felt good.
I've had a couple of successful shopping excursions this week as well. Last Sunday at Sam's I found the sleep pants I've wanted for months. A pack of 2 was only $12.88 and they were the size and color I wanted, too. Then yesterday I went to the local Thrift store to see their new selection of swim suits. I found four that were worth trying on and one I decided to buy. Most of the suits were $4.99 so I couldn't go too far wrong on any of them. They actually fit me better than the ones I tried at Ross the other week. Since I'm in the pool at least 3 times a week I tend to go through suits quickly.
Take care and have a great weekend.

Happy Friday everyone!
My positive for the week is:
I'm still here and I am so filled with love for all my BC sisters and I appreciate you so much. Looking back, I realize more than ever how much easier this trip has been because of you.
Thanks for the youtube link, Sandy Sunshine. It's so wonderful.
Did you gals see the cancer rant that got posted on another thread?
http://www.craigslist.org/about/best/pdx/465030621.html
I read it through twice, crying the whole time. I can really feel where this girl is coming from! Definitely go read it for yourself!
Have a great weekend everyone!
Love you!
Miss S
-
Thanks Miss S, That rant pretty much sums it up for any kind of cancer treatment. I think we've all had experiences like that person had. I was really good at tuning out when people mentioned there whatever friend or relative's cancer experience. My husband said once after we had visited with one of my cousins, "He didn't have to tell about that person dying. did he?" And I said, "Oh, I didn't hear that part."

Hi PGC's. Let's get caught up a bit.
DS didn't get to take out his friend last weekend because she was too sick and this weekend he went to his dad's. So maybe this weekend will be his milestone! The 8th grade Farewell Formal is coming up and I am on the planning committee. The guys have to wear jacket and tie so off to the thrift store for a new one with sleeves that aren't up to his elbows! He has nice dress pants but his jacket is too small sicne he has grown about 6 inches since 2005!
My 10th fill was today! YEAH!! It is 11 months since I started this journey with the bilat mast and there truly is a light at the end of the tunnel. 2 more to go and then a consult with the ps and he might fill 'er up one more time! Then the exchange surgery/final recon will be the 1st or 2nd week in June.
Got a new book, "Apron Strings: Inheriting Courage Wisdom and ....Breast Cancer," by Diane Greene. It is about a woman's journey through bc along with her family and how they dealt with bc and the BRCA2 gene mutation. I will see her at the 2008 FORCE Conference so we can really talk about it in depth. Check out her website and see how wonderful a lady Dianne is, www.aprongstringsbook.com.
Also got a copy of Kristin (k4katz) CD called Dichroic Glass. She is a member here at bc.org and it is really inspiring music. The group donates their proceeds to breast cancer research. The song, "Mother's Day" is my favorite. They performed at Pinkstock '07 and will be at Pinkstock '08 again! Go Kristin!
Glad to see all of you and welcome to anyone I have not yet "met".
I will be checking in again.
Love and hugs,
Beth.....who is reaaalllly trying to keep her attitude positive!!
-
Beth: Oh, I'm so jealous, but happy for you! I'm only on my fourth fill, and still have a way to go! I'm hoping my exchange surgery will be in the late summer!
My eldest son has been working at M.D. Anderson for the past two years, and is now inspired to apply to med school! He's had an eye-opening experience, both with working in cancer research and watching his mother go through BC. Keep your fingers crossed for him when he takes the MCAT in two weeks!
I'm back up to three miles of walking a day!!! That is putting me in great spirits! What a glorious world we live in!!!!!!
Have a wonderful day!

I've only had 2 fills so far and am at 270cc (60cc put in at time of surgery, 120 on 1st fill, 90 on second fill) how full do you plan to get? My next fill is April 15. I want a full c cup back again if possible. My surgeon says she can't guarantee me anything. It just depends how the muscle and skin stretches.
-
Sandy, I had a 700 cc expander put in at surgery but it was not filled at all. Each fill has been 60 cc's. Right now I am at 600 cc's and will be at 720 cc's by the time I see my ps next on the 29th. I am pretty sure I would be a C cup. I used to be a D, almost DD so this is a good change for me. My skin seems to be cooperating.
Cat, it seems like it will go on forever. I am wondering, what will take up my time again on Mondays that I always reserved for my fills? It is a little scary as well going for more surgery too. But I will have two cancer free foobs (fake boobs)! That is what counts.
Hugs to all of you!
-
Did you just loose your nipple skin?
-
Sandy, I had a skin-sparing one-step alloderm with immediate implants. I had no choice about nipple sparing. My family history is very strong and I am BRCA2+. The breast surgeon, ps and onc all agreed that I needed to get rid of any and all breast tissue so as not to have risk left behind. DH said he didn't care about any recon but I did it for me. The ps left a lot of other skin to do the recon with so I have these dog ear flaps on both sides. They are going to use them to nip and tuck with. I asked about a possible liposuction while they are there to contour but the pa laughed and said, "Uh....no." Well, it was worth a shot!
As long as the rest of the group doesn't mind talking recon.........Sandy and Cat, just out of curiousity, what kind of surgery did you have?
Later and lots of hugs,
Beth
-
I haven't posted in a while. Beth, here is my recon journey in a nut shell. My ps said that it took 13 yrs to create your first set of boobs, you need to give me at least 8 months. I had my bilat surgery June 1, 500cc expanders with 200cc saline put in the day of surgery. I went through the expansion 60cc at a time every 1 1/2 to 2 weeks I stopped in August for a 4 week wait, Sept wanted a little bit more (boob greed here) and I can't remember how many cc I had put in, exchange November 2 for tear drop saline. nipples Dec 20, first tattoo session Feb 13, touch up tattoos on Monday. It has been almost a year since I started this journey. I though did not have chemo to delay my recon proceedures. When I had my exchange my ps did a little lypo to my sides to contour my shape slightly but I don't see much difference now.
Sheila
-
Hi Beth I was also hoping for a skin sparing right side mastectomy like you got as we thought I had DCIS but during my surgery they found IDC and had to take extra skin on the inside cleavage area and some muscle since she didn't have clean margins without it. But glad to say that came back negative but have a bigger scar than what I was hoping for. They want to do a MRI of my good breast the begining of Aug. so I'll need the expander out by than. Did I hear it's good to try to wait a while from last fill to the exchange?
