Hello-  My name is Holly.  I am new here and joined because I have recently begun working for a new charity called, The Healing Curve. I have attached the press release below and would be grateful to anyone who would like to volunteer for our upcoming charity events.  If you want to know more about the event schedule, please contact me directly at:  info@thehealingcurve.org

    Press Release

Leading Beverly Hills plastic surgeon, Dr. Gary Motykie, has just announced the formation of THE HEALING CURVE a non-profit initiative to help women who have fought and beaten breast cancer but are left with scars and loss of breast tissue as a result of their mastectomy. Additionally, The Healing Curve assists survivors who have misshapen breasts as a result of their previous reconstruction surgery.

Each year, over 240,000 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed in the U.S. Dr. Motykie explains, "I have seen many women who have undergone reconstructive surgeries that have left them unhappy and scarred. Although insurance providers cover the initial reconstruction after breast cancer, they often do not cover secondary surgeries for the aesthetic concerns of the patients. These patients are frequently left without the financial means to correct breasts that look and feel strange. These types of results can be an added emotional trauma to women who have already overcome so much to survive."

Known world-wide for his amazing breast surgery skills, Dr. Motykie's inspiration behind his new project is the flood of emails he receives daily from viewers that were touched by his recent episode dealing with breast cancer survivors on E! Entertainment's popular series, Dr. 90210. "There seems to be a huge hole in the medical system that needs to be filled for women that have undergone breast reconstruction, but are left with breasts that feel alien and strange," says Dr Motykie. "All these women truly want is to have breasts that look and feel like their own natural breasts again."

"Overall, I started the Healing Curve to help women who feel they have lost their bodies, femininity, and self-esteem due to their battle with breast cancer," explains Motykie. "These women have already been through so much with cancer itself; they deserve the best possible breasts that plastic surgery can offer."

There are many worthwhile charities that address the research and medical aspects of breast cancer; however, there are very few which address the cosmetic and emotional needs of survivors who have been left feeling disfigured or no longer whole as a woman. With the assistance of his promotions and fund raising team, So Hot Studios; Dr Motykie is raising awareness and financial support for The Healing Curve in order to assist thousands of women in need.

To learn more about The Healing Curve or become involved, please contact: info@thehealingcurve.org or phone: 310 461 3563

I don't seem to be able to locate any registration of this charity anywhere in CA ( I am assuming it is CA because of the area code )

Be aware of this... looks like a scam to me

I respect and understand that you may be looking out for the benefit of others; however, the strength of your statement is not valid and could potentially frighten off people who may need our help.

If you require more details, you may ask me directly, or phone/email the charity verses post a defamatory statement. As a matter of interest, we have received help from  members of the Komen foundation (LA Chapter)as well as many other sister charities in our efforts to raise money and awareness for our cause. 501c3 status and tax identification is readily available to our sponsors.

Dr. Motykie is a well known and respected champion of breast cancer issues and the key note speaker at the upcoming March Cancer Legal Resource Center (CLRC) conference. His episode on Dr. 90210 that featured Greta Mendes was the impetus for launching The Healing Curve.  Each time the episode runs, he receives hndreds of e-mails asking for help.

I respectfully request that the above comment from Bev be removed from the board, or at least edited so that it is not defamatory toward a cause that we are working so hard to give enlightenment and support to.  We are a new charity and came on this board for support, not defammation.

    Kindest regards

    Holly

WHOIS information indicates the healing curve website was, indeed, registered by Gary Motykie In November, 2007 through GODADDY.COM. A generic "coming soon" page and a ".org" suffix is really in no way reassuring that this is a legitimate organization. Why is there no mention of the charity on Dr. Motykie's own website? We have had too many spammers and scammers on this site to not be wary of a first-time poster coming on the site with all kinds of creative attacks and ways to exploit our condition.

In order to avoid confusion in the future, perhaps you could include more than an email address and phone number in your posting; you really can't blame us for wondering. Most of us like the reassurance that an organization such as yours is legitimate and you really didn't offer much for us to go on. You did not offer an email address with "@thehealingcurve.org" in your original post, either. This type of thing throws up a red flag for many of us.

No listing for The Healing Curve is found on the California Attorney General's website either.

So, EVEN THOUGH THE WHO IS LISTS THE CORRECT NAME AND PHONE NUMBER FOR DR. MOTYKIE, the ambiguity of the other available information did cause your posting to be brought into question.

You will also note the "admin phone" and "tech phone" listed on whois is INCOMPLETE. (minus a digit) Searching under the 310 area code (by inserting a "0" where it would seem to be missing) for those numbers, an entirely DIFFERENT group of surgeons in the same location, different suite, comes up.

Can you clarify these things for us?

Holly, a google search reveals mention of the "The Healing Curve" in only two locations: this one, and EOnline Community.

Fundraising is not appropriate here.  This topic is called "Recommend Your Resources" -- there are plenty of women on this board who could use some funds or pro bono treatment themselves!  If "The Healing Curve" is ready to offer services to women, then it would be appropriate to post here with information about how women with BC may obtain services.

As I mentioned, this is a brand new charity.  His official launch party is on June 6th.  The Healing Curve web site is under construction and will be revealed at the launch party per the request of Dr. Motykie.  My intention of posting the press release was to make people aware (both beneficiaries as well as benefactors).

I expected that news of The Healing Curve would be well received; not a source of contention.  However, I never even considered that there would be a problem with scams on a board such as this.  Please do not allow negative past experiences soil the efforts of an organization that is trying to do a good thing.

I will post no more on here as it seems to have the opposite effect of what we are trying to achieve and by no means do I want to cause concern.  However,  If anyone is looking for more details,or would like to submit their case for consideration; they may contact: info@thehealingcurve.org or thehealingcurve@sohotstudio.com (the launch party promoter). The contact number for more details is as I said before: 310 461 3563

    Kindest regards,

    Holly

To answer two of the other questions... regarding the multiple surgeons offices:  Dr. Motykie ofices out of a plastic surgery medical facility with many doctors.  He previously shared an office with a group of several surgeons, but recently took his own office in the same building.  However, his medical office does not handle the dealings of The Healing Curve.  That is presently handled through his contracted promotions team and legal representatives.

As far as a mention on his private web site; Dr. Motykie will be adding a direct web link to the new charity web site upon it's completion.  He will not be putting up the link until it is finished that I am aware of.  Please understand, that The Healing Curve is a brand new charity.  We do not have the extensive resources of the larger, established charities yet.  However, we have had wonderful support from Komen and The United Way and are looking to award our first beneficiaries for the June 6th launch.  If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to e-mail the addresses I have listed.  Wishing all of you the very best.

    Kind regards,

    Holly

I checked with my contact at Komen in LA and here is her reply.

    "Hi xxxxxxx,
Apparently it is a start-up non-profit and one of our board members was helping them. We do not have any kind of formal agreement with them so she is asking them to please refrain from using our affiliate name.

This sounds like a good idea if it is a legitimate charity.  Has anyone on here actually contacted to ask for details?  I noticed the web site is still under construction, but I did find details about it on a couple other links.  Some look like press releases, and others are blogs but I can find them all over the internet.  here are a few links:

    http://boards.eonline.com/Insider/Boards/message.jspa?messageID=2006721

I am going to write to that girl in the top email and see what they have to say.  I already know that I am going to have difficulty, because I do not have insurance.  I wonder if they will help people without insurance. Do any of you know of other charities that will help with reconstruction if you do not have insurance?  If so, is there a section on here that I can find the details please?  Thanks- JL

    Jennylynn,

You may want to google the Cancer Education & Early Detection Program (CEED) for your state.  It's a national program that is run by the individual states.  There are income limits but it is certainly worth a try.  If you qualify, you can get reconstruction done by a PS that accepts payment from CEED.

This is the only program that I'm aware of, but if I come across others, I'll let you know.

    Good luck!

    >> Some look like press releases...

Indeed they do until you do some research.

First red flag : The source of these 'press releases'  is PRWEB, a company that you pay a flat fee and  they issue your 'press release' to all the major search engines and blogs.    Read the PRWEB disclamer .. "PRWEB disclaims any content contained in these releases" - i.e NO fact checking.

Second red flag :  again the press release states that the event is hosted by some company called so hot studios, checking the website domain lists it at an address in the UK under yet another company name.

Anyone seeing a pattern here ?

    Jennylynn,

For financial help, you might also want to check this page:

    http://bb67.wikispaces.com/

It is still a work in progress (being created by poster BadBoob67) but it already has a lot of links to programs that offer some financial/treatment help to BC patients.

Ok... I checked a few things out ladies.  So Hot studios was a British based company and they have been registered in California since 2007.  I called them today and apparently they are one of the people who handle the promotion for The Healing Curve.  That is the number that was listed on here for contact as well.  I personally could care less if they paid for a press release, because they are a new charity. But I wanted to make sure it was a real office.

I also called the Komen office and they did not say anything negative to me at all.  They just told me they did not know alot about them yet because they are too new.  They also said they are not legally affiliated, but had in fact helped them get started. I think I just need to hold on to see what happens. I think it is early and unfair for any of us to pass judgement.

Thank you so much for that 'work in progress' page wth all the links you sent.  I think they will also be very helpful to me.  All of you ladies are so great.  It is wonderful to have the support.- JL

Hi Ladies and Gents-  There is nothing scandalous about So Hot Studios web site being based in the Uk.  We started as a European business (from Ireland actually, not Britain).  Our U.S. division is based in LA and we handle events and promotion as well as talent management.  We are also the parent company to Hot Helping Hands; our charity fund raising division. We are however, on this forum to draw attention to The Healing Curve.

As I have mentioned, the full Healing Curve web site is under development and was not due to launch until June.  However, in the interest of the concerns raised on this board, Dr. Motykie has asked us to create a more in depth static page while the site is under construction.  You may view this at:  www.thehealingcurve.org  The e-mail remains info@thehealingcurve.org

Thank you for your continued interest, and please be aware that constructive questions or concerns are welcome and helpful to our development.

    Kindest regards,

    Holly

    Holly,

Thank you for the link to the static page www.thehealingcurve.org.

This looks like a fantastic project, and I am glad there is now a commensurate presentation to acquaint people with it.

You may have gotten a bit of a rougher ride than you expected when you posted here -- but I think you could consider that you have just heard from a very honest and reliable focus group, that you didn't have to convene or pay for!

    Best,

    Ann

LOL  Thanks Ann! You are 100% correct about that, but I am hopeful that we can be of assistance in the very near future to the members.  It is my pleasure to get to know all of you and wish kind thoughts and positive energy to all of  you.  Please feel free to contact me at any time.  For the sake of not causing confusion; I have removed the alternate e-mail address that was listed previously (the one with our event promotions company), now that the new one attached to the web site is secure info@thehealingcurve.org

As always, I am happy to answer any questions.

    Kindest regards,

    Holly

yeah! That looks great Holly.  Please tell Dr. Motykie that we are anxious to see what comes next.  Can you please tell us what area he will cover?  Is it only in California or can anyone apply if needed?  My mother lost both of her breasts to cancer many years ago, and still has not had reconstruction.  I thik it still bothers her, but might be too late to do anything now. She does not talk about it too much  -JL

Oh and can anyone please tell me the best section to look at on here fro symptoms?  I hate waiting.  It feels like the worst part, but I keep praying.

I am Greta Mendes, the first receipient of the "skills" of Dr. Motykie.  I can assure you, that this is a legitimate non-profit organization, but is just in the formation stages.  Dr. Motykie helped me last year to reconstruct and replace my NINE previous attempts at natural looking breasts that were COMFORTABLE as well.  I am a 3rd generation breast cancer patient, and intend to be the first survivor.  Dr. Motykie gave me what I wasn't able to get back before, my life.  He is a genuine nice person, awesome surgeon and a very special human being.  After my episode (Dr. 90210) aired he received hundreds of emails asking how to participate.  Gary deceided that just having one show a year wasn't enough, that he would perform and recruit his "peers" to do the same.  Provide to women who would not otherwise be able to afford, a Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon. I can assure you, I wouldn't have been.  I think that Holly was just trying to get the "word" out, not solicit for anything other than exposure of this potentially life changing organization.  In regards to Bez' comments that it isn't legitimate, the State of California is not all that speedy on getting the information on line.  It takes them sometimes as much as 6 months to get the information posted at the Secretary of State Website....It will be there, just be patient...This is no scam, google my name and you will find several articles about me and Dr. Motykie.

Hi Jenny-   I think that the first question he will probably ask me is how long ago your mother had her surgeries. He would definitely need more specifics.  I do know that Dr. Morykie will be taking applications from beneficiary candidates through out the whole of the US and not just here in California, but from a medical perspective, I am not qualified to answer any questions.

I will be meeting with Dr. Motykie this week and will come back to you with an answer.

    Kind regards,

    Holly

After a really long time the page is finally back up again.  I wrote to Holly again to see what was going on, she finally wrote me back, but she told me that she was not involved with them any longer but kindly referred me to Dr. Motykie's office number. The girl that answered his office had no idea what was going on but said they were still filing for their legal charity status.  Bez WAS right all along!!!  They were parading around as a charity when they in fact were not.  I think I would stay clear of this group.  I looked at the board of directors and it seems the only person with any charity or cancer experience is Greta Mendes, the one woman Dr. Motykie did for his tv show.  Oh and one other girl supports PETA.

I have been reluctant in the past to post any further on this subject in case people though I was just a trouble maker but in the meantime, my son uncovered a lot of detail about the promotions and fund raising team, So Hot Studios and its owners.

Someone previously posted "So Hot studios was a British based company and they have been registered in California since 2007."

True, it was a British based company - fact : they just got on a plane and moved to the states, leaving behind a trail of debt and unhappy employees (see below).

Records indicate that various companies registered to these individuals were recently declared bankrupt and the two owners declared personal bankruptcy late last year.

Again according to records freely available on line, they left their employees without pay, vendors unpaid. This is a direct quote from testimony given by one of their unpaid employees recently....

"My employer moved abroad leaving many employees unpaid. Also leaving unpaid bills to suppliers and other businesses. This I was unaware of until they came to me demanding payment. The rent was owed for the premises I was working from, so I tried to contact Holly to ask her for payment as we were being asked to leave the premises for not paying the rent. She claimed she could not pay the rent, nor could she pay the employees' wages and suggested we claim our wages through the redundancy office. I then left on 31 October 2007 due to not being paid for two months and being contacted by businesses trying to get me to pay them what Holly xxxxxxx, owner of So Hot Studio and its parent company xxxxxxxxxxx  Int. owed them.

...Holly had told other employees to claim their unpaid wages through the redundancy office when they resigned as she could not afford to pay them, which I presume is illegal as well as wrong. Holly reassured me many times that we as a company were just going through a dry spell and that I would get "caught up" with our wages. But that obviously did not happen. Also Holly left for the States without setting up a new accountant as xxxxxxxxxxx was made bankrupt as was her other business, The Haggle House.

The contact details I have for Holly may not be reliable as I have had very little contact since she left for the States and none since I made her aware of how much wages I and another employee were owed. I wrote to her asking for our wages and to date have received no reply. I have held on to some relevant paperwork regarding hours worked by myself and all other team members..."

There is no doubt that this is the same "So Hot Studio" that was trying to work with the charity, their websites are all still register to a private home in the UK which was abandoned by these individuals and is now for sale by the bank.

I have links to all this, just got to love the internet !!!

I do wish the charity all the best, the website is looking better than the blank pink page.

     7/31/08 Update :

    WOW -  http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/b148675_troyer_goes_after_sex-tape_costar_20_mil.html

Two people from So Hot !!!   Read the actual lawsuit that is at the link, the So Hot Studio owner is alleged to be be acting as a broker to exploit the Videotape.  I pray that Dr Motykie and others associated with the healing curve, have distanced themselves from these people.

    This makes me sick

It has been a while but this was sent to me recently by a friend...

The website is http://www.sohotstudios.com/ and here is an extract...

"Holly Bannon, manager of xxxxxxxxxxx , and Peter Bannon stole $30,000 from a charity which helps women who have beaten breast cancer but are left with scars and loss of breast tissue as a result of the mastectomy that saved their lives. She and her husband Peter Bannon took a deposit of $30,000 to hold the event and fleed with the money.

Her fraudulent company, So Hot Studios is defrauding charities."

I have to believe that Dr. Motykie was a victim of this woman, I hope he has distanced himself and his work from any association with  So Hot Studios
