How soon can one get fitted?

I'm about 5 weeks post bilateral mast. and there is still some puckering of my scars.  At the end of this month I will lose my "platinum" (my onc. phrase) supplemental health coverage.  I am getting what I can while I can - new glasses, first in years; teeth cleaning, overdue; and if it is not too soon breast protheses.

However ill fitting ones will be worse than none I would guess and I don't want to exploit the insurance for the pure pleasure of it.   In truth I am not much into being fashionable or looking "right" and would probably only use protheses when more formal wear would look odd without them.

I don't want any custom molded jobs, just something serviceable.

I was told six weeks post-mast by my fitter.  Looks like you might be able to squeak by on that deadline.Smile  If you have your docs ok,check with your local fitter.  Happy fitting!

    Hi mke,

I had my double on 9/8/08 and was fitted for a prosthesis on 10/5/08. I got some that have fiber fill in them so I can make them bigger or smaller as I get my expanders. I also got 2 bras and it was covered at 100% by my insurance since I had met my deductible. The prosthesis were about $250 a piece!!!! and the bras about $42.00. She told me insurance covers 12 bras a year. As soon as you are not longer really tender to touch, I would think you could get fitted. I took one of my old bras and told her I want something to "fill this".

I finally got fitted today eight months after my surgery.  My fills had seen better days so I had to stop procrastinating.  It was a very positive experience.
