BRCA 1

Hi everyone,

I tested positive for BRCA 2, after my grandmother died of BC mets,my mom had lumpectomy X2 on one side and mastectomy on the other-BC X3- chemo twice and radiation twice;and my 36 year old sister was diagnosed with BC 4 years ago, had chemo and bilat mastectomy with delayed reconstruction. I was tested last Sept, I opted for prophlylactic bilat mastectomy, three weeks ago, and I plan to have oophrectomy once I'm done.  These expanders are something I could have never prepared for.

I am the 3rd of 4 sis to get bc.  The first sis passed at 33 and left 3 daughters.  We all got tested within the last year and all of us tested positive for the brca 1 gene. Four of my nieces, who are in their 20's, had prophylactic bilateral mastectomies with reconstruction.  My daughter, who didn't want any more children, had  prophylactic oopheroctomy and hysterectomy .  I also had bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction when diagnosed with bc...one side was prophylactic; also had the prophylactic oopheroctomy and hysterectomy.

When you have the brca gene but not cancer you are called a pre-vivor... hope this info was of use to you.
