Abnormal glucose

I spent a long, nervous weekend. I got a letter from my primary care physician on Friday evening (after it was too late to call the office, of course) that they wanted to talk to me about my "lab tests." You can imagine what I thought.

Anyway, I finally got hold of them this morning, and it seems my glucose level is high. However, since I took my medicine that morning with orange juice instead of water, that might have affected the test.

Long story short, I have to go in at 8 a.m. tomorrow (ugh!) and have a 3-hour glucose test. I assume they're checking for diabetes, so I'm sort of resigned to have yet another health challenge. Has anyone else gone through this?

My bet is it was the orange juice. My mom has been a type I diabetic for 37 years.  Good luck with your 3 hr test..keep us posted.

    Take care,

I've had painful medical tests, I've had scary medical tests, but I think this was the most miserable ever! But apparently, I'm okay. Whew!

oh yeah...it WAS the orange juice.  That is exactly what diabetics drink to bring up the blood glucose level when they are having a low glucose reading because of too much insulin.  OJ makes the blood sugar go up rapidly.  The 3 hour glucose test is to see how quickly your blood glucose returns to normal.  If your blood glucose takes longer than what is considered a normal amount of time, they suspect that you have the beginnings of diabetes.  Since i am diabetic, i have had these tests many times.

    Good luck!
