    Ladies,

Check this out!  No wonder the french are so darn healthy!  My french friends are very thin.  Check out the other articles by this author.  She is a BC survivor and endorses the Budwig Protocol

Imagine a life without butter?  Have you ever had Irish butter? Was that ever good.  They can say whatever they want to about butter, I never listened.

We had a local doctor on the radio for many years talking about food/supplements/excercise/diet and the one thing he always uttered was "stay away from margarine, it's the worse food in the world."  I say give me my butter.

You know what's weird? I've been eating more butter since bc...crave it...than ever before. I wasn't ever into margarine or fake butter, but never ate a lot of butter until now. I buy organic butter.  Maybe my body knows something I didn't know.

I love butter, especially whipped!  My husband, the carb junkie, teases me that I eat carbs only to have something to put butter on.  lol

As a kid I was raised in a house that used margarine.  Ever since college, I've used butter.  What's stated in the article are things I want very much to believe, but my own experience doesn't match up.  I didn't have any cavities as a kid.  Drank lots of milk, but we ate margarine.  I have very few cavities as an adult, so maybe I'm consistent with the conclusions of the author.

My thyroid is out of balance.  I have an iodine deficiency that butter hasn't prevented.  My cholesterol is too high.  Many people I know claim their imitation spread does wonders for getting their levels down to normal, but I really like butter and I don't want to eat something that's just one molecule away from plastic.  And the CLA sure didn't protect me from my own case of breast cancer.  And as for my weight, I was as thin as Twiggy as a teenager.

Ever since I started eating butter just over 30 years ago, my weight has steadily increased by 2 pounds per year.  Two pounds isn't much, but multiplied by 30, it gradually turns into 60.  The only time I've been alarmed by my weight was the time I hit 190 pounds.  That was way too close to 200.  I've been holding fairly steady around 183 for a while now.  It seems easy enough to pack on more weight, but trying to get it back down brings the same success as Sisyphus getting that boulder to the top of the hill.  I'm not much for calorie counting, so it's probable that as I increase my exercise, I also increase my calorie intake.  But whatever calories I take in includes butter, so just by my own experience, I cannot concur that butter has helped me with any of the benefits listed in the article, except for the protection against tooth decay.

Althea - Excellent points!  I may love butter, but I don't agree with the claims of the article, either.  Butter hasn't protected me from high cholesterol (many years ago), bc, and cavities.  It didn't protect my grandmother from colon cancer.  If only preventing disease were as easy as eating one particular food.

Years ago, I read a book which explained that when they "invented" margerine, a DOCTOR was on the board of directors for the Margerine company, who owned stock in the company...  No wonder DOCTORS all started to claim that margerine was better than butter!  WTH?  A synthetic that was better than the natural... butter!

    YEAH for BUTTER!

    Harley

P S  I havent read the article or the others posts, but I did see your post, Cynthia... I agree... butter is still not the best thing for us... but it is better than margerine...

Eww. Always hated margarine, but love butter. I've always been able to instantly tell when a cookie is made with margarine instead of butter.

I don't use much dairy as it causes a lot of mucus for me, but, I've found that, so long as I'm using really good butter made from milk produced only by grass-fed cows, I don't have that problem.

    DeAnn,

Where do you find organic butter, or butter from only grass-fed cows?  I haven't found it yet, but I haven't been looking too hard...

Where DO you find something like that?  Please don't say WHOLE FOODS, because I don't have one near me, in North Carolina...

    Hi Harley!

The butter I buy is called Pastureland butter and is actually made within about an hour from where I live. I've even been to some of the dairy farms that are part of the cooperative of farmers that make it.  It was recognized in this month's issue of Saveur magazine as one of the best 30 butters in America. If you go to their website at www.pastureland.coop  they have a store locater so you can see if there is something near you. They also do direct sales via the website.

harley, just got here and  saw your comment. try organicvalley.coop just got onto their site maybe this can help you. also i work at safeway and they are carrying alot more organic my manager said  because the market for organic is becoming so big that safeway corp and any affiliate of sw, vons, and several others are increasing this in the stores.  i know if customers keep asking for something they will get it. also walmart is starting to carry more organics according susan derns, she had an story in the sunset magazine stating this. i hope this helps. also try googling for your area for local farms and dairies. i did our area of klamath falls, i could not believe we had a farmer right in my back door.i was so excited. heather

Harley - Heather makes a good point, many of the major grocery stores are now carrying organic.  It didn't even occur to me that Raley's does, too, because I get most of my organic from Trader Joe's.  I've also gotten some from Safeway.  Good luck!

I'm doing good except for allergies.  Everything is in bloom right now, and I have a terrible cough in response.  lol  I live in a big agricultural area and all the nut and fruit trees are in bloom, as well as the trees in our backyard.  Ugh!  I sound like a chain smoker. lol

Sorry to hear you're having such trouble with sleeping.  The other night I just couldn't get to sleep and it was 2:30 am so I took a valium and went right to sleep when it kicked in.  I can't do that every night, though, huh? lol

    Thanks

    Cynthia,

Sorry about your allergies!  I have been having some "sinus" type issues, too.  I wake up and my nose is clogged, and I have some trouble breathing, while I'm sleeping... That is, when I can sleep!

I know... I wish I could take my sleeping pills more often, but the last time, even though I slept like a log, I was just so sleepy all day long, and kind of dizzy, too.

My back is still hurting.  I wish I knew what it was, but for now, I am not going to worry too much.  I'll be seeing my surgeon in early April, so if it is still hurting, I'll ask him to order some more tests.  I hate to say it, but it seems that my primary care dr. isn't too bright, and I wonder if she knows which tests to order.  She ordered an x-ray of my back, but shouldn't I be getting a different kind of test??

Nice talking to you!  Hope your allergies are better soon!

I use Promise, and it is supposed to be good for your heart, as it has LOTS of healthy veg. oils, Omega 3 oils, etc...

    Heather,

Do you mean "what is my dx for my back pain?"  NOTHING... my x-ray was normal, negative for abnormalities.  I have been talking to others, and back pain seems to be a very common ailment.  I have been taking it easy, and taking Tylenol for the pain.

My bc dx was ... Stage I,  IDC,  .8 cm, negative nodes, ER+/PR+, HER2- .

Does anyone know the answer to this ?:

If my x-ray was negative, does this mean that there is no bc there?  I was very scared about bc mets...  but, I would think there would be some kind of spots on the x-ray?  or is my pcp dr. an idiot, and did she order the wrong test?  I am relieved, but I still can't help worrying...

    Thanks

    Harley

Harley, The test for bone mets is a bone scan.  It involves a nuclear injection and a large machine like a CT scan type thing.  Ours is a large doughnut that VERY slowly goes from your toes to the top of your head.  Your oncologist would be the one to talk to.  Best wishes

    RubyTuesday,

Thanks!  That is what I thought...  I really don't want to worry, since it is most likely nothing.

I guess I'll just wait til my next appt.  I'll be seeing my surgeon in April, and I know that he'll order tests, if I am still having pain.

I am finding that I am getting too frustrated when I call my onc office or even my pcp dr., because the onc's office only answers part of my questions, and my pcp dr. may not understand my concerns.

     Harley,

Your Doc might have been looking for arthritis first in your bones.  Now on to the other bone scan that Ruby is talking about for your peace of mind.

Dr. Schultz has a sinus/cold remedy formula on the net.  It tasted awful, but if that doesn't clear up everyone's sinuses nothing will.

I can't remember the full formula but it had horseradish, garlic and cayenne peppers blended all together and you took a tsp. of it a couple of times a day, and it was quite the eye opener and sinus unplugger.  After your head stops spinning in place, you'll be breathing fine.

Super Tonic Formula from Dr. Schulze:

    ALL ORGANIC

1 Part fresh chopped White Onions (or the hottest onions available)

1 Part fresh chopped Garlic Cloves

1 Part fresh grated Ginger Root

1 Part fresh grated Horseradish Root

1 Part fresh chopped Cayenne Peppers (or the hottest Peppers available)

Fill a glass jar 3/4 of the way up with equal parts of the above chopped and grated herbs. Then fill to the top with raw, unfiltered, unbleached, undiluted apple cider vinegar. Blend and store in glass receptacle in the refrigerator.

Super Tonic stops most infections and gives you all the benefits of the garlic, etc. It destroys most viruses, bacteria and fungus on contact and helps break up and relieves congestion in the sinus and lungs. Helps relieve the common cold.

Rosemary, that recipe sounds absolutely dreadful.  After it's prepared, how is it to be consumed?  And how much?  My oak trees are blooming right now, and the wind's blowing so hard, I wouldn't be surprised if dust from the panhandle is coming with it.

We had a thread going last year about apple cider vinegar.  Just the smell of it turns my stomach.  My first attempt was mixing it with a cup of water.  I gagged it down, but it was too unpleasant to repeat.  Then Joan suggested downing it like a shot of liquor.  That made consumption easier, but I felt very sick to my stomach afterwards.  I either kept it down and suffered for several hours, or it didn't stay down.  Guess it's true you block out what you don't want to remember.

I'm game for a another try though.  I was very queasy all of November last year, and I think that's when I was attempting the vinegar.

I've been using schulze's echinacea plus tincture for a week now, which also contains garlic and hot pepper.  I was thinking at first that I'd be reeking of garlic 24/7, but I'm pleasantly relieved that there's no lingering aftertaste at all.  I think I might be able to handle something awful tasting IF there's no lingering aftertaste from the tonic.

    Althea,

I took it the first day because I was on a third week of a cold and I would have taken anything. Plus, I couldn't taste anything anyway. I think it worked, but the 2nd day, I only took one tsp because  I got my taste buds back.

If your taking the garlic and peppers now, your halfway thru the hardest part.  I couldn't say I could taste the vinegar.  The part that killed me was the garlic. It just turned me.   I think I took 3 tsps the first day, and 1 the next day.
