    Tracey,

Here in the States we have something called "compassionate need" or such where a physician appeals for coverage of a not as yet approved, (even off label) chemotherapy or drug.

I wonder is you might appeal to the NHS for Tykerb. The University Hospital in Mancestor,England and other academic centers have many clinician researchers who write about small molecule therapy, and I am coming to understand that the NHS has avenues of appeal, especially from academics.

Then too, is there a NHS clinical trial involving Tykerb you might consider enrolling in?

I am not stage iv myself, yet try to lend a hand with information getting and research on this site.

I hope this may help in some small way. Let me know if I can help you more on this.

    Tender

I have read that there are some oils that can work synergistically with herceptin.  This may help herceptin work for you.  I'm still searching myself so feedback would be great!

I am stage 4 mets to bones and liver her2 +++. I am also working with a natural dr.  She wants me to take 2 T flax seeds, 1 1/2 flax oil with 3 T cottage cheese, 3 Tbs olive oil and 1g gla 2x a day.  Her team did some research for me and deciphered the research and came up with this.  I forgot the green tea extract with 80% polyphenols.  This is all suppose to help herceptin.  I had to stop herceptin and we are hoping this will all help me.   I am still trying to work all these oils into my diet. I am also doing research on my own.

"Moreover, the nature of the cytotoxic interaction between ALA and trastuzumab (Herceptin) revealed a significant synergism as assessed by MTT-based cell viability assays."

"Oleic acid, the main monounsaturated fatty acid of olive oil, suppresses Her-2/neu (erbB-2) expression and synergistically enhances the growth inhibitory effects of trastuzumab (Herceptin) in breast cancer cells with Her-2/neu oncogene amplification."
