I was in Penney's the other day and was cruising the bra dept. (always looking for something that might work).  I've been trying to find some sports bras that would work.  I had a single mastectomy, so it's a little tricky to find something that works.  Regular sports bras that compress you don't work because they compress my breast, but not the form!  Also, if I try it with one of the fiberfill forms, it compresses that one more, so very lopsided.  So I've been trying to find one with the formed cups which I can just stick a softee  form in.  Penney's has a line of bras called Underscore.  Found s sportsbra that fills the bill for $12 on sale.  The lining in the cup is cotton spandex, and its loose, so I'll even be able to cut it open along one side and use that as a pocket.  It's a racerback with hooks in back so you can adjust it, and the bottom band is wide and soft.  Very comfortable bra.  I actually will probably wear it with regular clothes as well, since the stretch foam cups look good under knits, better then my regular bra.  Another bonus is that the strap doesn't bother my port, which has been an issue as well.

Just wanted to share this, as I know what a pain it is finding something that really works well.

mthomp, thanks for the tip. I am going to look for that bra. I've been using a sports bra with my soft form to work out, and it always rides over and I end up looking lopsided, or like a cyclops breast by the time I'm done working out. I don't think anyone really looks at my chest, but it does make me a little uncomfortable so I'm definitely looking for something better! Thanks!

I ordered a couple of mast sports bras from Janac Sportswear (www.janacsportswear.ca) and they work really well. The pocket is a bit on the small size so I have to squeeze my form in but it is very comfortable and very secure. A bit pricey though and for those who don't like to put on a bra over their head this wouldn't work. It is very stretchy though so it's not a struggle putting it on.

The problem I run into with that style of sports bra (Janac) is that they do compress your breast, but not the silicone form, and they compress the soft form more than your breast.  Sort of a catch-22.  Plus that style's straps do cover and rub on my port - not something I want while exercising.  With the formed foam cup, I don't have to worry about uneveness, since it covers it up very well, and the straps stay clear of my port.  The $12 price wasn't too bad, either!  Even the regular price $20 is better then most bras.

    mthomp,

Have you tried using a non-silicone foam form (not the soft fiberfill) while exercising? I use Amoena's leisure form, Style 126, but there are others available. The 126 is a molded form--that is, it's made of a firm foam which is covered by a satiny fabric in front and a nice cool cotton in back. It doesn't compress in a tight bra--it holds its shape. And it's also very inexpensive (I bought mine for under $40). So, if you found a size in a form like the 126 that matched the size your natural breast is when compressed in a sports bra, then you might have a decent match. The 126 and many other foam forms are non-weighted, so great for exercise in that regard. I'm always surprised how natural my foam forms look even though they don't feel natural to the touch, like silicone.

Just a thought. I feel like I'm part of an ongoing experiment when it comes to breast forms--always looking for the perfect solution!

I second Barbara on being part of an ongoing experiment.  On her recommendation, I tried the Amoena 126 Leisure form and love it!  I have found that I need two different sizes, depending on what I'm using it for.  One size for swim suits, and another for sports bras.  I have quite an assortment of forms; stick on, regular silicone, and leisure form.  I am always on the lookout for bras that work.

My favorite sport bra is one made from Anita. It is expensive but soooo good. It is made of microfibre (dries quickly), and is very light. It really stays in place and is very comfortable. If you want to have a look at it, the number is 5321X. It does not compress the breasts

My mom and sis bought me these from "Woman Within":

    http://www.womanwithin.com/clothing/Instant-Shaping-Zip-Front-Bra.aspx?PfId=114732&DeptId=9433&producttypeid=1&pref=ps&PurchaseType=G

    They're called "Instant Shaping."

The trick I've found with sports bras is you have to get something larger than your normal size. Before mastectomy, I wore a 34D or a 36C  (the former more comfortable than the latter).

In the sports bras, the ones that feel the best are size 40/42 C/D. The 36s and 38s were too tight.

They even hold my fake boobie in place, because they have a little bit of cup molding.

    These are under $20.

I'm always on the lookout for Sportsbras with pockets. VS had some for several years but they've gone out of production.  I'd take the pad out on my good side and leave it in for the other.

Has anybody tried the partial forms they mention on the janacsport site?

I have an uneven side so I do like something to fill in.
