Anyone Doing Ixempra (Ixabepilone) w/ or w/o Other Chemos?

    Hello Everyone -

My last chemo was Thanksgiving 2006 ... It's been great to be off of it.  I had almost 20 mos of being NED (this, after being dx'd with liver mets)!

Unfortunately, I got a lung met in 7/07.  I was on the PARP Inhibitor clinical trial from 8/07 - 2/08.  The side effects were easy for me - and I had hoped to be on the PARP pills many years!  Unfortunately, a liver met or two is back - and I'm kicked off the PARP trial even though the lung met is stable.

Previously, I did 6 or 7 dose dense AC and 5 Taxotere & Carboplatin.

    My questions are:

Is anyone doing Ixempra (aka Ixabepilone)?

    With or without anything else?

    Anyone having Ixempra & Xeloda?

Anyone having Ixempra & Xeloda and either Doxil or Carboplatin?

What are the SIDE EFFECTS of Ixempra?

    Is hair loss definite?

    Is Ixempra working for you?

Right now, I'm waiting for my liver biopsy to be scheduled.  Whether I do RFA (radio-frequency ablation) on my liver mets again or not; I know I need systemic therapy.   As a BRCA1, trip neg - it's chemo and/or targeted therapy.

I read the possible side effects ... and the idea of going through the hair loss (which was highly traumatic for me) with Ixempra really gives me pause ... but that is one of the rec'd options.

    Thanks,

    CalGal

PS - A minute ago, I posted this same post on the Chemo thread.

Calgirl - I'm waiting with you for info.  This was brought to me as possible next drug.  If it causes (most do) any neuropathy...no can do.

    Cal,

Sorry I can't answer you questions about ixempra, or ixempra+xeloda or ixempra+xeloda+doxil or carbo. I think all could possibly cause hair loss (it's listed on the side effect lists) but not sure if it matters how it is given. Are these options from your oncologist? It's a pretty harsh regimen.

When is your liver biopsy scheduled? On what basis will they decide to do the RFA? Can't remember - have you done any chemo with avastin?

Am sending good thoughts and prayers and hope that the tests come back as good as possible.

    Hi FlaLady & Jeanne -

Just this afternoon, found out my liver biopsy is scheduled for F 3/14.  I wish it was sooner .... the questionnable CT scan (that started all this) was M 2/11 ... a re-read, then a PET, it just goes on ...

I'm not sure I'll do this regimen, but it was recommended by one source, but I'm always one to get multiple opinions!

I think I'm more keen on getting the RFA again (than my onc) ... I've had it twice, once on liver mets and once on "likely" renal cell carcinoma.

No, I have not had Avastin.  I did dose dense AC and later, Taxotere & Carboplatin.

There are several women who post at the Trip Neg BC Foundation website (tnbcfoundation.org) who are doing Ixempra.  I think it's on the Mets thread there.

    Thanks,

    CalGal

Well, once again, best of luck on the liver biopsy. Sorry you have to wait until 3/14, but hopefully next week will go by fast.

    CalGal,

There are a couple of women on the Her2 Support Group board who are doing this drug and one woman in particular has posted about her good response to it.  Her screen name is Lopsided.  I told someone else on this board about her and when they posted on the Her2 board she did reply.
