    Hello all,

my mother (60years old) has today just been diagnosed and told she will have surgery (macectomy). She is going for pre-op on thursday and surgery is scheduled within a week of that. This is all happening rather quickly, so I assume it is quite serious.

I would like to know from those with experience what we (her 4 kids) can expect and what we can offer her in terms of support now and in the future. Two of us live overseas, two of us are local.

    I appreciate your advice,

    Regards

    Stu

May I ask why you posted in this area?  We would be more than happy to help you if you will give us a little history.  What are your concerns?  What kind (receptor) for bc does she have, and what stage is she?  You will know more after surgery.  But if you can get the basic's you can start your research for her.  And please do research no matter what your told.  Get reading. Your first book should be "50 Essianals thing to do if you have cancer" another great one is "Your breast cancer handbook".  Both of these can be purchased off of Amazon.com.  These will help all of you with, what to expect in the next few weeks.  Things will slow down soon and you will get to have more input with her care.  Please ask her to join us online if she is able.  Also find her a good support group soon.  They can be the best help she ever had.

Everyone's walk with bc can be different.  We look for common risk factor to help us with our treatment.  Since you on the natural site do you wish to know more ways to help her?

Let her know your just there for her.  Just listen and don't judge.

    Living in hope,

    FLalady
