    Hi

I have a tender, swollen what I'm pretty sure is a lymph node above my collar bone on the side that I did not have cancer on. Should I be worried that this means recurrence, or is it usually something else like an infection?

Could be an infection. Go it checked, rather than worry. I had an infected node once more towards my neck--very tender and sore--I thought I was going to have to get it drained and wear a bucket on my head like a dog! It resolved with antibiotics. My doc didn't think I was funny worrying about the bucket--she said, "You weren't going to scratch it out with your foot, were you?" I looked like Jay Leno on one side until it got better.

Hope all is well with you--go find out. It beats pain and suffering (worrying).

    Take care,

Thanks for responding. I know I should get it checked out, and hopefully it is just an infection. I'm just so sick of doctors and tests. I'll probably wait a few days to see if it gets better or worse.

    That's funny about the bucket!

    Hey Jan,

Did you ever get the swollen node checked out?  I felt one this past Friday morning - exactly as you described - and my husband suggested I have my PS check it out during my appointment for an expander fill later that day.  His Physician's Assistant did the fill, so I didn't ask, which is silly because she's very knowledgeable.  I'm still not clear on the role of PA's versus, for example, an RN.  Anyway, it's still swollen and I will probably follow up with someone this coming week if it doesn't disappear.

    Good luck and be well,

    Maria

Well, for what it's worth, my PS examined the spot today and gave it a long name starting with "thrombo.................................." and said the best thing would be heat and anti-inflammatories.  It's not actually bothering me, except that it's there.

    Be well,

    Maria

    Maria

The lymph node remained sore and swollen for about 4 days, after which I had a chest/sinus infection - so thankfully, that was the reason for it.
