?Shoes for jumping rope?

Does anyone here have a recommendation about what kind of shoes to wear for jumping rope?  I have been using my old, reliable white walking shoes, but they feel kind of heavy for jumping.

Are my choices:  running shoes, cross-trainers, new walking shoes, Keds sneakers or something else?  What features do I look for and what are some brand/model suggestions?

I would go with the cross trainers. Most jumping will happen from your toes, but in the event you are a heel striker (my son actually jumps like that), the cross trainer will give you more total foot protection - plus give more rollover support if you mis-step onto the side of your foot.

My personal favorite is Adidas, but Reebok and Nike make good cross trainers as well. Have fun!

I'd look for some with lots of forefoot cushioning. I jump on my toes/front foot mostly.

Most jump rope in combination with other things, so cross-trainers would be a good solution.

I have a narrow foot so I like Nike.

Remember to keep your knees flexible. You'll bounce better if you're channeling muscular energy from your quads, calves and butt. It's not about landing on your bones, but about springing up and down with your muscles.

I've always used my ASICS with good results.
