    Hi All,

    I was diagnosed in November 2007 with IDC, Stage II, Grade 3 breast cancer.  I am 38 years old, married with a five year old daughter.  They found a second tumor hiding under the 1st one so I decided on having a mastectomy.  I had surgery on December 21st w/ sentinel node biopsy  done as well.  The nodes came back negative until the final pathology report where they found one of the two nodes has 1 mm of cancer in it.  I started dose-dense chemo in January and just finished my 4 rounds of A/C.  I am starting 4 rounds of Taxol next and am hoping it is better than the A/C was.  I will be going back to have my some more nodes removed in May.  I pray the rest are negative!

    Any advice on the taxol would be appreciated.  I have gained lots of inspiration from all of your posts that I have read...what a great group!

    I WAS 36 WHEN DIAGNOSED WHAT A SHOCK...I ALSO HAD A MASTECTOMY IN NOVEMBER 2006 AS I HAD A LARGE TUMOUR GROWING THEY ALSO DISCOVERED ANOTHER 8 YES 8 TUMOURS GROWING IN THE SAME BREAST SO THE RIGHT DECISION WAS MADE FOR ME I HAD RECONSTRUCTION ON THE SAME DAY A SEVEN HOUR OP 8 MONTHS OF CHEMO AND 3 WEEKS OF RADIOTHERAPY MY HAIR HAS JUST COME BACK GOING TO HAVE IT DYED ON TUESDAY CANT WAIT... THE PAST 18 MONTHS HAS BEEN A LONG  LONG ROAD BUT IT DOES END I PROMISE I HAD 16 NODES REMOVED 3 WERE CANCEROUS BUT I JUST LIVE LIFE TO THE FULL NOW I STILL GET TIRED AND GRUMPY AT TIMES BUT WERE ALLOWED ARNT WE TAKE CARE....     Hi Carol-

    It is so good to hear from someone who has been through this...thank you for your response.  I start my 4 rounds of Taxol on Tuesday and hope it is better than the A/C was.  I am looking forward to putting this all behind me soon and living life again too!

    I to am doing dose dense ac then taxol. You are a little farther ahead than me as I still have two more ac treatments. So far I have been fortunate and have not been ill with the ac but am tired. It hasn't been fun but hasn't been what I feared. I hope the taxol is easier for you and for me as well.

    mb,

    i was 29 when i was diagnosed.  My treatment was a little different than yours, but same drugs.  I did the AC (did not like it at all!) and the taxol but my taxol was every week for 12 weeks rather than 4 doses every other week.  Taxol was much more doable than the AC.  It wasn't fun by the 7th + dose, but i really liked that there was no nausea with it like the AC.  I remember the taxol caused my back  to feel sore, achiness in my body....hoping taxol is better for you than AC....you're half way done!

    Little - great to hear from someone who found the taxol a bit better than the ac treatment.  29...wow that is so young.  I am 38 and thought I was a "young one:. :)  How are you doing now?

    wetcoast -- Hang in there for those 2 more A/C treatments...I will let you know how the taxol goes....I was looking at your post.  I was also diagnosed in November...week before Thanksgiving.  The holidays were a tough time huh!

    Hi mbpetit!  Found your thread today while checking out some new topics.  I'm 37 (dx at 36 in August).  I have 2 kids-- 5 year old daughter and 2 year old son.  I'm doing taxotere/cytoxan/herceptin every 3 weeks for 4 rounds.  I have my last one on March 19, I started in January.  Then I do herceptin every 3 weeks for a year by itself.  Taxotere is like taxol (same drug class). I've found the bone aches can be pretty bad.  I take Motrin for them and just rest a lot.  It's tough being a mom of little kids, let alone going through chemo, huh?

    To the young ones,

    My doctors keep telling me I am a young bc patient(which I think is just the cats meow) but I think I am the granny for you all. I am or will be 49 this month and my kids are 23 and 22. I have always worked full time as my hubby is disabled and he stayed home with the kids. I can't imagine doing that let alone taking care of small ones. I guess we do what we have to.

    the holidays were definitely a tuff one but my family has been great.

    I would appreciate the info about taxol when you get to it and hope it treats you well.

    Hi KathyL - My daughter is 5 and yes, it can be tough when you are not feeling well.   Luckily, I have a great family that has been helping out.  HOORAY for your last tx on March 19th -- if all goes well with the Taxol I should be done April 15th (tax day). :)  My first Taxol is tomorrow so I will stock up on some Motrin.  Thanks for the advice.

    wetcoast -- I will fill you in on the Taxol as soon as I can.  From my reading it sounds like the body aches replace the vomitting from the A/C...we will see how it goes.  I had surgery on Dec. 23 and was determined to be home from Christmas for my 5 year old...I made it but I just sat on the couch with my drains and let everyone wait on me. ;)  Next X-Mas I will hopefully be feeling better and able to CELEBRATE!
