Question is:
how to eat large amounts of garlic and not scare away the vampires..
Joking.. but seriously I have been reading about garlic consumption benefits but usually people seem to eat 8-10 cloves.. urghh...
How can one get that amount in without really stinking the whole day and the next day. Any recipes ? I though about putting it in my juices once my juicer comes.
And no, I am not going the supplement route for this.
Thanks !

I crush garlic cloves in one of those nifty crushers and put it in things like salads, salad dressing, and stir it in to the sauces before eating them over pasta. I like the taste of garlic so it works for me. Ya, I probably smell like garlic sometimes. My honey likes garlic. Yea!
-
Also does cooking it make it lose its efficacy ?
-
Baking garlic makes it nice and sweet and not so offensive. I don't know if it makes any difference in efficacy. After all, most cultures that eat garlic eat it cooked, don't they?

Hi Aylin,
For almost a year now we have chopped up anywhere from 8 to 12 cloves of garlic and eat it by the spoonful and wash it down with distilled water every night before we go to bed!! Raw is always better. If we still smell like garlic the next day - oh well!!! Healing is more important!!!
God bless,

Aylin, it helps to chew some fresh parsley when eating garlic. Here in Australia, the market is flooded with cheap Chinese garlic which is apparently loaded with insecticides and chemicals so I have to go to the better fruit/veg shops to get Australian & sometimes American garlic.
I love garlic - I enjoy it (raw) sliced thinly on toast with a savory spread and add it to most of my dishes. I do think it is more potent (in all ways!) when it is raw.

My mom takes garlic everyday as she cannot take cholesterol meds because of her liver mets. So she takes olive oil and garlic cloves everyday to keep her cholesterol in check, although I am sure her new diet helps with that also. But she cuts the cloves in half and swallows them like a pill, that way it avoids the stinky breath. It works well for her. She does not take it in supplement form as they have too many added bad stuff, and her liver needs to be as free of bad stuff as it can get. Her Onc. was the one that recommended she take fresh garlic only and not the store bought supplements.

My mom doesn't chop it up as it releases the enzymes that cause bad breath. The stomach acid will break down the garlic when it gets there so its not like it doesn't get broken up. No one has complained of my mom smelling of garlic.

Aylin, Not sure if you're on Femara or not but if you are, garlic doesn't play well with it. Best wishes!

Ruby thanks for the heads up I am not on anything yet,(I will start rads next week).
Is there any other heads up regarding garlic consumption ?
Thanks !

I seem to recall reading a reference here that warned against taking garlic by supplement, but can't remember what is wrong with doing so. Could it have something to do with how they're made and that they have some estrogenic effect?
I have read that the very best way to take garlic is raw and crushed, with either an implement intended for that use or the flat side of a knife. Supposedly, the most beneficial aspects of the clove is released in the crushing. Lately I've been crushing my garlic and putting it in everything from sauces to pizza topping. I adore it....and so does my bf

Ruby- sad but true re: the garlic and Femara. I used to eat loads of it, now limit/avoid it because it can reduce the efficacy of the Femara I take
. Still, love that Femara. I think garlic is fine with any of the other AIs or Tamox. Femara is good overally in that there seem to be very few food/drug contraindications.

I read an entire story about the research they do with garlic and why they get different results from the studies. Bottom line, the results were different because garlic needs to get cut up and sit for 15 mins before using it. It releases something after that amount of time. That's all I remember from the report.

Hello Ladies
The way I eat garlic is in my juice, the best way to get the full benefit:
2 carrots
2 stalk of celery
bunch of parsley
2 garlic clove
piece of apple
Great tasting, and a anti-cancerous drink
-
angie, that juice combination sounds good. I'll give it a try next time I have those ingredients.
When you juice apples, do you include or exclude the seeds?
-
Mint Assure parsley oil capsules really help. Check toothpaste aisle.
