Has anyone on Arimidex experienced an increase in heart rate? I have been on Arimidex for one year.  My normal heart rate before diagnose was about 70/min. And for a few weeks I have noticed my heart rate increased - now it ranges from 81 to 97 beats/minute. Has anyone ever experienced this?

Dalycity, you didn't mention if your bp went up also. I know when I first started taking tamoxifen my bp  shot way up and my onc and pcp said it couldn't be the tamox because it doesn't cause it, but I went off of it a short time and when I went back on my bp went up again.

I haven't seen that a se of Arimidex listed but that doesn't mean it isn't one. All people are different, have you checked with your doctor about this? I'm fixing to be switched over so I'm anxious to see your responses on this.

Hazel: No, my bp is normal.  I will be seeing my internist in about a month for a regular checkup and will let her know about this.  It could be a thyroid problem, too, I was told.  Will let you know after.  I don't have any adverse se from the Arimidex that I know of. I had a bone density scan done a year after taking Arimidex and it was normal.  I was concerned about osteoposis, as that seems to be the worst thing about Arimidex. Best wishes,

Hi Dalycity..yes my hr did go up..and my bp as well..first I noticed the heartrate going up..then I had many palpitations, and now high blood pressure. I was 6months to the end of my hormonal treatment but I have decided to quit it now..I am hoping that with exercise, diet and no mor drugs, that I will be able to lower it without any further meds!oh, my cholesterol also creeped up too!

Keep an eye on it all...your may be rising gradually too.

    hugs,

Hi I've been on Arimidex since Aug 05.  Cholesterol, and bp have been fine.  But in the spring of 2006 i was diagnosed with tachycardia(regualarly in the low 100's).  I've been on metoprolol since.  I do however wonder if the heart changes may have been due to the Chemo, especially the epirubicin which can be hard on the heart.

    Hi ladies,

Since my hyst/ooph I have had some fast heart rates and irregular beats. I have been on Digoxin to for a few yrs to make my heart beat stronger (always super low bp), but I have mitral valve also that was made worse by chemo and anemia that I had for 3 yrs. I wonder if thyroid does play a part in all this? I am going to ask my internist when I see him.. Blessings to all..

    Hi, all

could it be??? I am on Arimidex 4 years now and within the last 2 years have these weird palpitations with a feeling of weakness or fainting (Haven't fainted but feel like it) I went to my doc a few times and wore a "King of Hearts" monitor for weeks but could not catch an episode. So, today, my onc finally had me take an echo cardiogram to see if they find anything. He does not seem to think chemo caused it, I had ATC in 2002. All I can think of it is the Arimidex. I'll hear the results later this week.

Hi everyone, Thank you all for your posts, I don't feel so alone now.. Yes I am also experiencing an elevated heart rate.. I usually run from 70ish to 90 but at least for today anyway its elevated to 105 my bp is fine.. way normal..with an occasional spike if I'm in extreme pain.. per my onc.. but it fades to normal pretty quickly.. I also take levothyroxine for thyroid replacement as I was born without I am congenital/central hypothyroid.. Anastrozole.. is causing some minor anxiety.. possibly from the elevated heart rate which in turn seems to be a viscious circle.. I just shot a message off to my endo to please speak with my onc.. I have appts with both coming up.. catch 22 for me y'all I know i need to excercise more but having the energy to do that is dicey at best, but know that if I do exercise it could bring that heart rate down also.. my last radiation treatment was May 1rst this year.. chemo ended about a month prior to that so really not sure where to pin the blame on this one.. usually it's me I blame.. I hate taking drugs, and so when my onc says we can give you something for the side effects, I was like NOOOO no more drugs especially if they have a host of side effects themselves soo.. Praying that since I have to take this stuff for 5 years that I become accustomed to the side effects find them easier to handle at least.. I have been told by several ppl that I should ask my doctor to change me to a different blocker but I don't want to switch, means i'll have to get used to yet another med.. hoping to find out through the above mentioned message I sent that I'll get some answers like for instance is the Anastrozole messin with my thyroid dosage.. interesting

    Hello,

I'm glad to see recent activity on this topic. I too have been having accelerated heart rate sporadically since starting anastrozole, along with pressure in my chest/lungs. I've been on it almost 3 months and am noticing the side effects seem to be starting to really show themselves. My joints just this week have started to really ache. I've noticed that I am more anxious and much more sensitive to caffeine which seems to make the heart thing happen more. I got a chest CT 2 days ago to rule out any lung issues. I'm stage 3C so my onc always errs on the side of caution and has me tested.

I couldn't find anything on the internet about this particular side effect so I had myself worked up a bit. I am relieved to see that I am not alone with this odd one.
