    Hi Roxy,

Congratulation on ending treatment.  Hope you are feeling well and looking forward to getting on with life.  I know we all do.

What suplements to take if you are ER/PR+ has been an ongoing debate here and within the medical community.

I am taking DIM, which the surgeon approved.  Black Cohosh, which she did not.  Occasionally I am using Dr. Lee's progesteron cream.  Estrogen dominance and bloating related to that have been problems for me.

I am taking Zyflmend, per Dr. Christine Horner's book on BC, as well as a green drink and liguid vitamin with B12 sublingual.  Also going organic as much as possible.

My surgeon suggested flaxseed and you will find some good threads on that here too.  Also at the alternative medicine category. Some will not recommend flaxseed.

There is a lot of research on supplements and many opposing views.  Read all you can, ask for help here and then go with your gut.  That is my plan.

    Roxy,
Here is alink to the study done on flaxseed. From what I could decipher it is ok to take it ( but the study group was kind of small) regardless of ER/PR status.

However another question would be whether it is ok to take it while on tamox or ai.. now I do not know.

    Anyone chime in ?

I also would love to hear about it cause I am thinking about  Johanna Budwig's flaxseed oil and cottage cheese regimen but am not sure what will happen when I go  on Tamox.

Ok this is great.. have a question though

    What does :

"Our previous short-term study has shown that 10% flaxseed (FS) inhibits the growth of human estrogen dependent estrogen receptor positive breast tumors " mean.. what is 10% Flaxseed ?

Of course I'll be guessing here, but 10% of their normal calories in their diet?  10% flax in the food they ate and 90% of something else rats/mice eat.  I've read in the past that 1 tbls of ground flaxseed was to be used as a preventative and 2 -3 tbls daily was for fighting an active cancer.

I use the advice of mice studies to tell me if when I'm eating small amounts of something will it harm me by interfering with my drugs.  That doesn't mean I'll eat it every day because there aren't any human studies, but I'm not afraid to eat it.

    Hi Roxy,

My Mom takes ground flaxseed dayly, and also does the Budwig Protocol of Organic Cottage Cheese and Organic High Lignan Flax Oil.  She is seeing positive results.  She does not take any drugs, and has very limited conventional therapy, so there is no contraindication.  She is ER and PR+.  Good luck with your decision.  All the studies I have read show flaxseed as beneficial regardless of status.
