    Hi,

Cholesterol is on the up on my AI. I've heard cider vinegar can help. Any ideas ?

Yes, A soluble fiber supplement taken 3 times a day. My cardiac doctor recommends metamucil but that has less soluble fiber than Fibersure and with fibersure or one of the other tasteless easily disolving fibers, I can add it to anything.

Fish oil supplements. I take 2 fish oil twice a day. Make sure you are taking purified fish oil so the heavy metals are taken out.

I can tell you what DOESN'T work.  Oatmeal cookies!  LOL  I already eat flaxseed for breakfast, which is supposed to keep levels down and I was so disappointed to get a 223 last month.  So I really scaled back on meat and made a big batch of oatmeal cookies.  I knew my method was flawed, but I thought I would at least hold steady.  But NO!  It went up to 233.

Red yeast rice is the active ingredient in statin drugs like Lipitor.

There are many OTC brands. I take Cholestin and it helped bring my chol down.

Niacin is also known to lower cholesterol, however, it should only be taken under a doctor's guidance as liver function tests have to be taken regularly.  Too much niacin (B3) can cause liver damage.  It also raises HDL (the good cholesterol.)
