Triple Negative thoughts

Hello Sisters xxx
I am musing a thought I have had for a while .... I am trip neg aged 38.
I have not been genetically tested.
My maternal grandmother had first dx at 40 then 2nd at 46.... each time a mastectomy and no chemo... years ago. She lived until she was 80 .
My mum was dx with Ovarian at 38 ...unfortunatley it was too late and she passed away at 42.
I just would like to pose something... if I had an inherited gene... would the b/c have similar characteristics and behaviour to that of my grandmother.... there was no hormonal treatment then... so maybe she was trip neg ...
Has anyone been genetically verified ...with the same outcomes...I dont know ...I am trying to think of why my grandmother could out live two dx with no treatment save for radical surgery ...
Sorry if I am confusing .... xxx
Maybe in my chemo haze I am searching for guarantees...
What of the early days when ladies actually survived without therapy ...with possible trip neg tumours ??
I asked my ONKY in tearful fits at times what he thinks... he tells me I could very well make it without chemo....etc....
Also why do all trip negs not get the same kinds of treatments ...

Hi,
I was diagnosed in Sept of 2005. And I've learned a lot in the last couple of years....
I was tested for BRACA and was negative.
I did AC followed by Taxol and rads.
Some women did CAF. Some did with Taxotere. Some doctors (at that time) told me Taxol was not needed and then later on after I did it, it became almost standard for triple negs.
Different doctors have different opinions based on their experiences and knowlege.
I don't know the answers to your questions about the genetics because I don't have any family history.
You need to just believe in the treatments that you are getting, get through them and then move on. Triple neg is being studied more now and one day, they will have a more targeted drug. In the meantime, we take what we can and we read the studies and take what seems to be working according to the most recent studies.
And then we just move on..or try to...and live.
It's not easy. I wish you well...

Thankyou Ravdeb ... your advice is much appreciated and I am less muddled in the scenario of ifs ... buts maybe whys ..
I also have every faith in my Onc ...as I did in my surgeon as I do with the treatments.
I guess I need to have faith in my bodys ability long term xxx

I think it's important to be tested. I had my first breast cancer at 43 and didn't have the genetic testing done until my second new breast cancer in opposite breast 10 years later to the month. I wasn't going to be tested until my breast surgeon insisted. I tested positive for the brca 1 gene mutation. I had my ovaries removed since I was at a higher risk for ovarian cancer and it save my life. They found fallopian tube cancer in situ. As my breast surgeon once said, Knowledge is Power.
Sorry you are having to deal this at such a young age. Sending you a big hug.

Hi,
I was diagnosed in May of 2006, a few days before my 31st birthday. I had 4 AC and 4 Taxol. My mom was diagnosed at 41 in 1979. She had a mastectomy, but no chemo, and has never had a recurrence (she just turned 70!). They didn't test for hormones then, but I've wondered if she was also triple negative. I was sure that I would test positive for BRACA, but I was negative. I hope that I take after my mom and don't have to face a recurrence. There aren't ever any guarantees, but I feel like I did everything that I possibly could to beat this the first time around.
