Thinning hair?

Over the last few months, my hair has gotten noticeably thinner, especially at the top and front where it matters the most. Since my hair has always been my best feature, I'm upset.

I finished treatment in November 2003, so I don't think I can blame the chemo for this, although I blame it for just about everything else. I suspect it's a menopause/age thing. (I'm 55.)

Has anyone else had this problem? If so, what did you do about it? Should I consider a new style to hide the thin spots or maybe even consider using Rogaine?

Hooptie...Before you resort to Rogaine which, as I understand it, needs to be applied very religiously in order to be effective, why don't you switch to a Nioxin shampoo and see how you do with that. I'd also recommend increasing your intake of biotin, a supplement that isn't harmful in large doses and is great at promoting hair and nail growth. I'm still dealing with post-chemo and AI-induced thinnish hair and have had amazing results from taking biotin. I take 5,000 mcg (5mg), but you can just start at 1,000 mcg and see if you notice any difference in a month or so.

Finally, you might also want to have your thyroid checked because abnormalities there can result in hair thinning bigtime!

Good luck...I know how important our hair is to us!

Hooptie - if you are taking an AI, and particularly femara or aromasin, then hair-thinning is a known side effect.

My hair has gotten quite thin in the areas you mention, and it started a few months after starting aromasin.

I have been taking biotin 900mg, and there doesn't seem to be any improvement......maybe I should increase the dose, but am a bit wary.

I am just praying that it stops thinning and grows back once I have stopped the AI.

I'm on tamoxifin, so an AI isn't the cause. My mother had thyroid problems, so I wondering if that's the cause? Thanks for the tips. I will try them. I've already changed my hairstyle just a bit, which helped a lot.
