Jas--google it for more detailed explanation. Basically, it is an electrical charged mass, usually a result of certain atmospheric conditions during a thunderstorm. It glows, and twinkles, and bounces around--looks like something from a Disney movie--like pixie dust that Tinkerbell tossed around. Absolutely fascinating, but scary as hell. And, can be dangerous...they usually just "poof" away, but I do know of one neighbor whose roof blew off just as one in their house "poofed"...
Are you thinking to join us in Eureka? You gotta come--you're not all that far away!
junie
-
Junie...I would love to but my car would never make the trip. I would have to rent a car to go.
-
Junie: You weren't by any chance near the air force base were you? Kincheloe (misspelled)............
Hugs,
Neesie
-
neesie--YES, YES!! You're spelling is fine! I'll send you a PM and get this subject off the get-together thread....big huggssss to you!!!
-
ok liz as long as it's nothing major.
Neesie stop telling stories. you know you are invited.

Jaz, please come if you can.
Junie, I guess the only time I'm trying to book rooms around here is during the ice storms and they are all taken. I get a little paranoid.
-
how are we all doing!!!!!
When I woke up this morning it was 65 degrees.
-
You know I'm gonna see if I can get my step sister to come. she is a breast cancer survivor and a real hoot!!!!!! She lives in blytheville arkansas.
-
Has anyone booked a room, yet? I'm very tempted to do the Crescent but not sure I can spend that much! Comfort Inn has a trolly stop but looks a little out of downtown.
Are you coming in Friday or Saturday? Crescent required a two night stay. Might do it despite the cost - I think mom is coming with me and she has been so helpful, she deserves it.
-
PS - Linda - I'm in Pittsburg, KS. Is that close to you? I don't have heart issues (yet!) but would be happy to chat.
-
Wow, Kari, the Crescent. You an your mom probably deserve it though!!!!!!! I'm gonna look for something cheaper. I have a lot of trips planned this spring. I'll look and let you know.

-
Kari - where exactly is Pittsburg? I'm in northcentral OK.
Susan - yep I need advice on where to stay etc.
Okay so I think I may have convinced Madison to join us for this little outing. Still waiting to hear from MB and then I'll call Donna. I'm just ready for better weather!
-
Well, unless anyone strongly objects, I'm going to try to make it as well.
-
Pittsburg is in the SE corner of the state - about 40 minutes from Miami.
Mom's here almost every day bringing me food and drinks and doing my laundry - definately deserves a nice vacation!
-
Jas - that's great!!!!!!!!!!
Kari so you're NE of me. I'm closer to Arkansas City, Winfield, Wichita. How nice that you and your mom can do this.
I'll know more financially after my recon tweaking the end of this month. I know I'd love to meet everyone.
Donna - check in! LOL
-
I'm here!!
I need to call Christine and figure out where we're going to stay. I have been meaning to call....I'll call her tonight. I'm with Susan though, I've got several vacations already lined out for this year, so I won't be staying at the Crescent, but Kari that's great that you are treating yourself! It's a grand old hotel.
Liz - I imagine you'll want to sleep near me, so I'll be sure and bring a BIG bag of chips LOL!
I'll check in soon to see how the plans are coming along.
-
Hi ladies
I think I would be interested in this get together as well. Maybe I could drive to Tulsa and ride with MB and Lizw?

Still working on it...lol..want to bee warm soon....

Hey All-
Just checking in, the months are flying by already for 2008 and April will be here, before we know it. I have not even logged onto a ES site to see what options there are for lodging, meals,etc... I know the entertainment will be all of you!
I am gonna log off here and check out Eureka Springs.
Donna, if I don't talk to you tonight, I'll call you on Wed, as I have to work Tues and Thurs is VDay, I am working, but hopefully you have something romantic planned.
-
I'm not settled on the Crescent. Would like to know where others are staying - might be fun to be close!
-
Cathy of course, you are welcome!!! the more the merrier. Jaz, of course you are welcome. wow, madison too. this is gonna be great.
maybe some of us could get suites somewhere so we'd all have a place to hang out.
-
Hey guys - Christine and I are booked at the Basin, Fri & Sat. one room, two double beds for $109, not bad. WooHoo!!
-
Double woo-hoo! The Basin is a great spot. Their Balcony Bar/Restaurant is neat. Great choice! Be sure to check out their pool room on top floor...bar there also, lots of nice conversation areas to sit and jabber, pool tables...very upscale--not sleezy at all--don't get a mental pic of a typical pool hall atmosphere! And, it's a hop skip and jump to Jack's Place!!!!
-
I'm now leaning toward Best Western. Read some reviews on the Basin and their elevator is down - called them and they said it should be fixed in March but I didn't want to chance it. If I'm doing the hills all day, want an elevator to get me to my bed!!!
Haven't ruled out the Crescent but am not one for ghosts...
-
Would love to meet up with everyone - girls weekend out!!! Junie, are there any casinos nearby?
I'm still thinking I can make it, but time will tell. I'll let you all know after my surgery on March 17th - I'm finally going to get a new boob - yeah!!!
-
Kari--which Best Western??--both are very nice places. I only know how to identify them as Best Western, Inn of the Ozarks (think that is the one that is having the UFO conf at the convention center) and Best Western with the Gazebo restaurant. The one that is Inn of the Ozarks has Myrtie Mae's restaurant--both are good places to eat.
I forgot about the Basin's elevator problems! That elevator has been on its last legs forever, but I thought they got it fixed recently. Check out the Orleans Hotel (sorry, someone took my last Eureka guidebook so just thinking it's called the Orleans, and not New Orleans....but it is a really neat downtown, old hotel just up the street from the Basin...)
Sam--you come on down, girl! There is a casino about an hour + away! It's a Cherokee casino undergoing massive upgrading (I think it is actually just across the line in Okla...) I've not played tables there, but the 50 cent thing each hand at 3 card poker drives Bob nuts! I like their slots--we don't go often, but it is always fun.
Lots to see and do here. Getting excited to meet some new faces and hug old friends!!!
huggggsssss, junie

Hi! Kind of a lurker to this forum, I'm in the Kansas City area. DH and I decided to check out Eureka Springs this last week as I've finally had a week without drs appts. We stayed at the Daffodil Cottage B&B. It was great! Recently renovated, of course Feb, is not the high season and a midweek visit so rates were wonderful. Beautiful rooms, and only a few minutes from historic downtown, right on Spring St. We walked to the shops and then would ride the trolley back up to the top of the street and walk the down the other side to visiting shops, also a trolley stop just a few buildings down from our room.
I was telling the owner of the B & B (she owns 3 right next door to each other, Piedmont,Briarwood Lodge, and Daffodil) about your get together, she is a 2 year BC survivor, and said she'd be happy to work with anyone interested in a stay there. http://www.allseasonsinn.net/daffodil/index.phtm
Very nice lady, and like I said the rooms were great! Breakfast was very yummy there at the B & B
Ermillos looked like a nice restaurant, we ate at Devitos, it was good, also at the Mud St. Cafe one morning for breakfast and coffee. Did hit Rogues Manor for a late evening drink, quite expensive there tho, for two drinks it cost us $22, ouch thought dh was going to flip, just for a jack and seven and an irish coffee.... Like I said check into it, this place has my kudus Lu~
-
The one I'm looing at is Best Western Eureka Inn - has the Gazebo restaurant. They're winning because they serve breakfast!
-
Lefty - my "other sisters" (biological) stayed at the All Seasons Inn in Sept! Pat is great! I did not know she is a BC survivor! The four of us stayed in, I think it was Tracy's Suite or something like that, named after her daughter. Anyho - it had 2 king beds, a small sitting area, nice bath w/ jacuzzi, little fridge and wet bar area. Great location too! Christine and I are already booked at the Basin, but I highly recommend the All Seasons B&B. And Pat does an awesome breakfast too.
Junie - I LOVE the Balcony Restaurant at the Basin. Although I've never stayed at the Basin before, I've eaten at the Balcony many times and love it. Of course it's best if you get a seat that over looks the street.
Jack's Place. Damn, I've had some fun there! Every time I've been, I end up making new drinking buds!
I can't wait for our trip girls!
Middle Aged Women Go Wild. I can see the video cover now.
Susan, you might be thinking about a cover for our CD
LOL!
