I love this thread and haven't been able to get to it lately...
So much going on.
Pearl..hope you can smile soon. sometimes I think we just have to get through the bad days in order to get to the good ones.
Like my cold...I have been fighting a cold for weeks. It comes and goes. I started sucking on zinc candies to get rid of it so it went away only to return again. Then it went away again and I think it's back! Or..it's allergies. But I am sneezing!
I'm ready for summer. We have actually had temps in the lower 70's this week. I mean..it's in the 50's til about noon, then for a while it gets really warm and then suddenly by 4 pm it's cold again. I miss walking the beach. The winds have been bad here. Haven't been to the beach in a while and I really need to walk the beach again, check out the waves, look for seashells and just breathe in that salty air.
hmm..maybe tomorrow...

Sunny again here today as well.
Oh, I love when flowers come up from their winter hybernation. So beautiful.
Now, that's interesting...cleaning out the book shelves and selling on eBay...smart! There are books that I read and pass on, and others that mean something that I keep. I don't have many as I'm in to minimal clutter in my home. I'm slowly getting the dh to see that clutter isn't a good thing...simplify and put everything in its place...he's starting to come around. He put an attic access in from the garage so we could store all the stuff we use only once or twice a year...that's something to be shouting about in this household...the garage is his workshop area...and there is a lot...I mean a lot of stuff. He's making progress though. Yeah!!!!!
So, this weekend, I'm going out to dinner and to the ballet with some gals friends. It's a ballet based on A Streetcar Named Desire...should be fun. Tonight, my dh and I may join my sisters, my son and his gal, for Sushi if the dh can get home at a decent hour.
Have a great weekend ladies,
SIS Kimberly -
I had a great day yesterday. Went to school to have lunch with my fellow staff members...so good to see them...then took myself to a movie- Bee Movie...pretty cute, then walked the Mall for awhile for exerercise and to kill some time before meeting my son, his girlfriend, my two sisters, and darling husband for Sushi at our favorite place.
My son and I have been going since he was little. I taught the owner's son, his now wife (went to their wedding), and other family members English when I taught Adult Night School oh so long ago. They started with just one restaurant in one suite of a strip mall building. They now have taken over most of that building and have another for offices on that site plus 5 more restaurants all over the local area and one in Vegas. Anyway, my son says, " Mom, you know you helped Taro and his family to live the American Dream."...Hmmm, I guess in a very small way, I did. Made me smile.
So, what's everyone up to this weekend?
SIS Kimberly -
Thank you everyone for the encouragement. I have a rad appointment on the 26th. Came out of the blue so maybe he really did listen to me. I finally got my car home last night at 6pm and another 103. buckola's. They broke the belt because they didn't fix it right but I had to pay for the second new belt and the second tow. I'm going to write their head office it just doesn't sit right with me that I paid 700. and then another 100. and the second problem was their mistake. But I'm happy to have the car back so Mon I can drop off the clothing and visit my ex co-workers and the women at the shelter. They are going to be thrilled with the clothes I got rid of lots even the expensive things I always said I'd wear later, well I feel better that my closets are cleaned out and it can do someone some good. And ladies I am going to get some antidepressants, I just can't shake this funk and it's lasted to long. All I do is watch Animal Planet and dream of being able to volunteer in Africa for year and work with primates, I just hope I get well enough to do it. Got to have a dream right. Thanks again everyone for your support, I will re read everyone's elses posts and reply properly later I'm to tired right now, I feel selfish or selfabsorbed not answering your posts properly so sorry gals but I will. Big hugs Pearl49
-
Pearl- No apologies needed. Support from your friends is never attached to strings...
I am so glad you got the car back and the closet cleaning felt good. Did you see Oprah last week? She did a show about how the clutter in our homes reflects us...when it is cleared...we can change our focus and our energy. The antidepressants are a good idea, Pearl. It will help get you over this funk you're in and get you back to living the life you want.
So, you'll be having radiation this month or just talking to the radialogist?
SIS Kimberly -
Kimberly: "Support from your friends is never attached to strings" ... can I quote you on that? That is so true!
-
Great Pearl..car fixed, closets cleaned out...I'd say that's a big accomplishment. I always feel in control after I've cleaned out my closets. I think I'll do that, too!
I think I want to quote you, too, Kimberly. :-)
We still have good weather here! I love the sun. Helps to lift my spirits.
My dh is returning home tonight from a 2-week business trip overseas. I enjoy the time when he's away....I get the whole bed, I can eat whenever I feel like it or not eat, I get the sofa and the REMOTE, I don't have to pick up after him and less laundry. But..I'm awaiting his arrival. Enough is enough. He can have the remote and I'll give up the whole bed and I'll get back to eating better, too!
And..there will be excitement here. This morning there was a road worker here digging up the speed bump that is in front of our house. We've had a long battle with this with some residents at the top of the hill of our road. They don't want the bump there. We, along with others at the bottom of the hill, DO want the bump. We don't have sidewalks and my other neighbors have little kids. The residents at the top of the hill get a kick out of speeding down the hill, not caring that we are backing out (I have a van and my neighbor has a pickup with a trailer), or that kids are in the street walking home from school.
We've had this speed bump ripped out because of these residents, about 5 times! What a waste of money! Makes me so mad. My dh is going to be furious when he arrives home to see it torn up yet again. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
-
Good Morning-
Yes, you may both use my quote all you want to...I'm glad those words resinated with you both.
I agree about cleaning out drwers and closets and garages making me feel better. It's the whole clutter thing squeezing out the energy in our living space causing us to feel squeezed/unwell as a result that gets cleared out allowing us to breath again so to speak.
We also are having such beautiful sunny weather again today, which I will take advantage of again by taking a VitD walk..after the new fridg, and washer and dryer are delivered between 10-2. We will put the ones we have now in our new investment property- the one my son will live in with roomies while in college.
RevDeb- I totally understand loving your space when the dh is gone and the anticipation of his return, too. It's good to have time alone to just spread out so to speak.
My friends have the same issue going on their road...their neighbor put in speed bumps without asking anyone else about it...and no one speeds down their gravel road. They resolved it by putting up a Slow Down Children at Play signs prior to reaching their neighbor's property, which was after my friend's house. Your street sounds more dangerous being a hill...and speeding...dangerous.
Have a great day,
SIS Kimberly -
We live on a private road w/just 4 houses at the top of the hill. It's a pretty steep road w/several blind curves. Oh, and it's also 2-way with one lane. People who come up to the top always ask how they get back down! Hee-hee.
at intervals on the road are about 4 inch high berms made out of the same asphalt that go across the road at a diagonal. When we moved in we wondered why there were speed bumps on the road when you couldn't actually go more than 5-10 miles per hour. LOL!! We soon learned they were for taking the water off the road into the culvert--that was the year it rained over 100 inches in the winter!! Seems like a lot, but not even enough to have that year be considered as a 100year flood level.
Anyway, still chuckle over the "speed bump" idea.
And of course, no one comes up our road unless they mean to!

Somebody stole my mailbox!!! My neighbors was stolen too! We had 3 days worth of mail in our box. *#%&!$*&#!
Come on over to the Life's a Beach thread ladies ... it will soothe your soul and make you forget about winter even for just a little!
-
My mailbox was also stollen last weekend.... It was a large one
Somehow they took the nails and all, same with my neighbors,
I'd seen someone turn around in our drive way, (we live on a dead end street) and didn't think anything of it.... From now on when I see someone turn around and I don't see any head/rear lights, I'll get out the ol' double barrel pump and take a walk down my road,,,
(FOR SCARE PURPOSES)
I love the sound that a pump shot gun makes, any kids/body
that have been around any kind of guns knows what that sounds like
SWEET pure and simple
We filed a police report...2 days later we found them in the lake close to the bridge...
Damn kids...
What goes around, comes around...
-
Vera ... damn .. I wish you lived on My street! lol I haven't found my mailbox yet. I also reported our theft to the police. The mailman gave us a pamphlet on identity theft to look over. Hoping it was just damn juvenile delinquents....
-
This is an interesting site...
-
what's the weather like in other places today? there's a pretty big snowstorm going on here in boston. -
We are getting a cold rain. was hoping for snow but cold front did not move far enough south.
Sheila
-
Misty rain, but clearing and will be in the low 50's Sat.
-
I am not a night owl by nature but for the last month or so I've had trouble sleeping. By the time I'm able to get to sleep I'm exhausted. So I've started feeding my inomnia by little cat naps in the afternoon. A guilty pleasure but then I can't sleep that night. It's a viscious circle. Does anyone take a sleep aid that's over the counter I really don't want another script to fill? I don't know what brought this on because I haven't changed or started any new meds. I prefer early mornings.
-
For a change, its not snowing in Chicago. We already have 56 inches just for the month of February alone. So I will take the little warm up we are getting - before the next storm arrives. At least we are close to Spring.
Nicki
-
Hazel .. I don't take an otc sleep aid but I have heard on this board of women taking tylenol pm. Maybe you could ask your doctor if that's okay for you to take with the other meds you're already taking.
We had snow and ice with all the schools closed yesterday but today is partly sunny and in the 30's.
26 days until spring!
-
Hazel - I sometimes take 25 mg of benadryl to make me sleepy....works for me
Good luck with getting some sleep
Deb C
-
Personally, I drink some wine to help me sleep.....
-
A shot of Brandy right on your night stand slug it, feel the warmth and turn the light right off it's worked for me.
And Angel and Deb I'm sorry about your mail boxes thats horrible. Pearl
-
Jaybird ... well yeah, me too LOL
Pearl ... thanks, what a weird way to feel violated, by losing your mailbox! I like your Brandy method also!
-
Good grief. I just read about someone stealing your mailboxes! This is why I advocate for people to use a post office box or one of those mailboxes, etc. places. It keeps your mail secure. I started using a po box when I lived in a duplex. One day when I was home on vacation, I happened to see the lady next door go check her mail and then check through mine. I guess she didn't know I was home that day. That is the day I changed to a box with a key.
-
It's a crazy world and that's really a great idea Jas .. I'm too lazy to go get my mail elsewhere though. Heck we had 3 days worth of mail in our box that's only 100 feet from our house! LOL
-
Just be really careful Angel watch your credit card invoices and really check your bankstatements etc. It would be tax refund time down there already would it. I would also feel so violated I hope they find out who did it. Maybe have your postman deliver right to your door from now on. What a strange thing to happen and it also happened evilelf weird. I wonder is it a new kid thing bored teens. Makes one think about safety and identity theft, man they could take mine if they take the cancer with it. And Angel I think I fiquired out a ficticious person today. Alam-p and her weird website. I'm proud of myself, I guess I am really paying attention now. Pearl
-
You can buy generic benadryl at any pharmacy, it's what's in tylenol pm to help you sleep. 25-50 mg is good to help
-
Pearl, thanks, I'm watching for id theft. Postman gave me a pamphlet about it from the Postal Service right after the theft.
Iodine, wow, I didn't realize that was in tylenol pm!
-
You girls have some great ideas. Makes me realize I am not the only one who doesn't sleep well on my own around here. I didn't know Tylenol pm had benadryl in it but it sure makes sense. Debc, I don't know why I hadn't thought of the benedryl before, thank you all. The brandy & glass of wine sounds pretty good, too.
-
Hazel, I take Simply Sleep. It's Tylenol PM without the Tylenol. If I had a glass of wine earlier, that's even better! LOL I don't sleep well either. There are a lot of us like that here. You've got a lot of company.
