    If my moms lymp come back clean and she has a full mastectomy will she still chemo?

    Triple neg and 2cm and otherwise healthy, very likely.

    Hi Carly,

    The tumor grade will be another factor in whether chemo is recommended.  Don't think they've told you the grade yet.  For grade 3 I'm sure they'd recommended chemo -- for grade 1 maybe not?  As everyone else has said, your mom's age and general health will also weigh in the decision.

    Yeah just when I thought I understood what was going on I get "triple negative" and that seems to change everything...

    My mom has decided to get a mastectomy and we will hopefully find out this week when it will be and if lymph are involved......I will be visting the surgury board for tips and what she should pack and etc etc........

    I read some wheres that triples tend to reoccur in other places and this woman had it come back in her lungs,,,great i said my moms had a cough for months but it does go away with a cough dropEmbarassed

    At is goes to sow you how crazy you can get about this I totally forgot that my mom was diagnosed with asthma years ago which makes her short of breath and tired and cough,,,,but of course my mind went somewheres elses completly given the BC and all.....thank you the posts and I will be looking for ideas on how to prepare my mom on whats going to happen and what we can do for her when she gets home to make this as easiest as possiable ( if there is such a thing).

    I am Patty, I am 54 years young. I was diagnosed on Dec. 15,2003. Stage IIA, Invasive Ductal Carcinoma(atypical medullary) 2.8 cm,,er, pr,her2 all negative,grade 3, no nodes involved out of 23, no vascular invasion. Four days later had a lumpectomy, with clear margins. Then in Jan. 04,started chemo 4XAC every three weeks, and then 4 X Taxol every three weeks, and then did 33 radiation treatments. So far all good reports. In December 2007 had a routine followup appt with my onc. I requested a breast mri, I have dense breasts, and a chest ct scan, both were normal. All bloodwork, mammo, tumor markers were normal. I am over four years out from triple negative, there is hope. Happy New Year to all, I don't post much but read daily. They are doing alot of research on triple negative breast cancer.

    Thanks so much for your comment Patty. I am new to this board and my mom has bc. It sounds so similar to yours. Stage II, triple neg., 2.7 cm, grade 3 and nodes/margins all clear. She had lumpectomy done in Jan. 08 and now they are suggesting chemo plus radiation. We were so excited when surgery went well and everything was cancer free. Now we went to the onc. this week and they suggst chemo. It's like a rollercoaster ride of "ups" and "downs". She will have 4 rounds of treatments every three weeks. This board has been very helpful in making the decision to begin chemo treatments but my mom has to make the final decision (it's a very scary road to travel down - chemo). She has a day or two to let this all sink in. Thank you to everyone who posts their comments!

    Hello,

    It is a roller coaster ride like no other. Tell your mom to do the chemo if the oncologist recommends it, it is doable, and the radiation. Chemo works best on triple negatives! My onc told me to do everything I can to fight this beast in the beginning, and that's what I did. The chemo is scary, but she will get thru it. This is a great site for information, keep coming back if you have questions. I am over four years out from diagnoses, there is alot of hope for your mom. You are a very caring daughter, I know you will be there for her during her journey. I don't post much but really felt the need to respond to your post. I know how lonely, and lost I felt when I was first diagnosed. Hang in there!!
