    Hi,

I do not want to go to hair salon for my first post chemo dye. Does anyone reccomend home hair coloring that is gentle enough? Beth

    Hi Beth-

About to run off to bed but saw your post. I saw that Whole Foods carries various haircolor products. I assume they are less poisonous than average but can't vouch or them personally. After YEARS of coloring my hair I have finally quit. I actually am liking the salt and pepper, much to my surprise. The curl is another issue. My hair is so curly that I may keep it REALLY short. At a little over an inch long it is already almost out of control. The only other option I can think of is dreadlocks, which would be quite a change.

Beth- I don't know if reddish is a color you'd want, but you can henna your hair at home, and it's gentle and safe.

You can find the products online- not too expensive.  My 23 year old did her long hair herself last week, and it's gorgeous.  It lasts about a month, I think, before it fades and needs to be redone.

I have colored my hair twice since chemo.  The first time I used Herbal Essences and the second time Colorsilk.  Neither have the harsh amonia or whatever the ingredient is that smells really strong.  I think it is amonia.   My favorite is the Herbal Essences but there are not a lot of color choices.

The first time I colored was about 6 months post chemo.  I would have done it sooner but it took me a long time to ditch the wig.

    Good luck.

I colored about 6 months past chemo, too. I just used my regular L'Oreal ash blond and I didn't have any problem with irritation at all. I sure felt better afterwards too.

that's what I use...L'Oreal Ash Brown. It seems to last the longest!
