what to do about new lump

I had breast cancer 18 months ago.I was premenapausal at the time, have had a hyst/ooph since then. Completed treatment (other than tamoxifen) in Dec 06. I have had quite a few test over the past year. If I go in for anything I get the work up. My file is now about 2 inches thick. I found a new lump in the scar tissue just before the 1 year mammo was do. They couldn't see it on the mammo so they ordered an ultra sound. They can see it on that but said it is undiagnosable. I saw my onc and she siad we can either wait for 6 months and then recheck or we can take it out. I got the impression that she thinks I should wait and recheck but I just want it out. Am I over reacting? I sure feel like a hypocondriac(sp). What would you so in this situation? I am scheduled for surgery next week but I can cancel it if I want to.

I'd get it out, but that's just me. Could be scar tissue or some other b9 thing, but to me, the only good lump is in a jar. At least then you'll know for certain whether it was anything to worry about...

Sorry you have to deal with this! All the best to you, turtle...

I agree with Felicia.  Why worry about it for 6 months, when you can get your question answered this week.

Here's hoping for that beautiful word "benign."

When in doubt, take it out! Why worry and stress for another 6 months. Our time is precious and needs to be spent in a positive mode...

Thanks you guys. Thats exactly how I feel about it but I get the  impression that my onc thinks I am overreacting to everything and maybe I am. I just needed someone to tell me I made the right choice.

I would get it out...I had 3 lumps that developed 1yr after bi-lateral mastectomies.    I had 2 MRIS and exams....sure enough..after "waiting" 6 months...I have a Local reccurence in 3 places....they said I had less than a 2% chance of 1 of them being cancer...Hypochondriac?  Who CARES?  It is better than the alternative....Hang in there!

Turtle - I concur - get that thing out. Six months of worrying and perhaps the lump getting bigger - I wouldn't take that chance.

    Best wishes to you,

    Raye

Your onc may think you are over reacting, but onc doesn't have to live 6 mos. wondering either!  Get the dang thing out and move on or get treatment.  Either way, you don't have to worry any more.

I don't think any one of us would let a lump go unattended ever again. Hell, I'd pry one out with my bare hands and fingernails if necessary! Yes....the lump in the jar...it's the ONLY place it belongs!

Thanks for the encouragement. I am going tomorrow to get it removed. They are going to do it without putting me out. Kinda nervous about that. I dont like the idea of being awake but I get to go home sooner this way.

Marin I thought about prying it out too, lol.

    Thanks again.

I had my new inconclusive lump taken out last week. Scar tissue! Totally worth the hassle of another surgery to know for sure. Best wishes tomorrow.

I had the excisional biopsy on friday and it wasn't as bad as I thought. My onc said it looked benign, yay. I will know for sure about the middle of next week when the path report comes back. Thanks again for all the support.
