I've been feeling a bit down lately, in a "woe is me, why do I always seem to have such bad luck" kind of way. So, instead of only having the stuff that makes me feel like Eeyore front of mind, I decided to start writing down the good things that happen, big and small.

I'd love to hear about your good things too. I only ask that they be actual things that happened in your actual life. I'll start...

My son tried out for his middle school play, got a part, and was absolutely wonderful - I was so proud and happy for him.

12 of my friends (local school moms) came over to my house on Friday night. Everyone brought some food or drinks, we ate, we talked, we laughed, and had a great time.

Yesterday my son and I sat and watched The Princess Bride, one of our favorite movies. (OK, it was because we were both home sick, but I'm still placing that in the good things column!)

That's all for now, hope you have some good things today!

    Well, I'll chime in, too.

My insurance company FINALLY approved my consult for the plastic surgeon to do a reduction on the "good side" Laughing  This is going to be interesting because I'm going to go for a "C" and I've NEVER been there!

I'm going to see my precious niece next week for her baby shower!

And the biggie...this month I will FINALLY pay off the credit card debt generated by the diagnosis.  WooHoo!!!

    Goody! A happy thread!!

The women's magazine I started a few years ago is being honored next month, which is cool. My best friend called yesterday to tell me she'd gotten the invite and will be there with bells on...

I was a guest speaker in my son's English class on Monday. My portion followed his oral report on a career he'd researched. He was wonderful - not because he chose journalism, but because of his poise and how he presented. Hard not to cry happy tears right there, but it would have made my mascara run which was not the look I was going for in front of a bunch of catty ninth graders...

I got final confirmation Saturday from my sensei about testing for my black belt next May (of 09)! It still feels kinda surreal to think I'll be aiming for my black belt, but it will be here before I know it.

Congrats to your son, cmb, and to you, txgrl for paying off that credit card debt...

Well, Kristin may not come here and post it but we saw it on Myspace this week!   She and her group, Dichroic Glass, have a CD out.  All the proceeds go to breast cancer research.  She is appearing Saturday night the 9th in South Jersey.  That deserves a big pat on the back for a fellow sister.   Wish I could remember her ID on here but I don't.  PM me if you want the addy for her website.  That is because I have to look it up on myspace!

We are having a snow storm here in Chicago.  Im stuck at home so I took my dog Mister outside for a bit and romped in the snow like a little kid.  Good snowball making snow.

Nicki, I like the way you think.

After getting up with dh at the usual time and having my coffee with him, I took my bath then WENT BACK TO BED to ooze on into the flannel sheets and listen to the rain driving into the windows.  Ahhhhhhhhh.  What a life.

    Hi,

    What a great thread!

Hubby & I got to babysit our 9 mo. old granddaughter last Saturday. We sat on the floor and just played with her for 2 hours. Then we walked a block to a cute small restaurant called Blue Skye Cafe in Watsonville CA (if you ever pass through there). We had a great lunch and Alexis had avocado, peas & brown rice & a french fry. She's into "green" food right now--broccoli, brussel sprouts, zucchini, peas, avocado & artichokes. We had the best day!

Last week I retired. Yahooo!! AND I found out that I have been awarded Social Security Disability. My case from start to finish was only 3 months! What a relief as I knew I couldn't go back to work.

    Life is looking up!

My good thing this week is that I started a new tapestry, I used to do it regularly before bc, but have let it slide.

Trouble is I think I am just starting to get a bit fed up of it now, that is after I have bought 4 from ebay....way too ambitious... lucky for me DH didn't get to see the postman delivering, or I might be mincemeat now!! He has a purge on spending (mine usually!!) each January, drives me mad turning off lights and moaning about all the heating bills, in another week or too he will have forgotten all about it !!

My dh works on the road and I was dx just before winter.  We hadn't really thought about how I'd get out of the drive with all the appts this winter, b/c my rotary was injured during the surgery and i've lost most of range of motion.  One armed shoveling is a pain.  And our area has been hit with weekly snowfalls which we NEVER get in the winter since before thanksgiving!

Somewhere along the line a retired cop friend of his heard of our fight with the beast and has been here every morning we've had snow fall to plow out the drive before sunrise or while I was napping or at an appt!  I could never catch him and finally last week he came during the day and got to run out and meet him!

Then this morning he came by after we'd had only an inch or two of snow and I thought, shoot, we're due for another foot possibly!  And I've got to get out for blood test and such tomorrow!

Welllllllll..........NOT to worry!  The guy came back at dinner time and plowed again.  We are due for another possibly 6 inches, so at least the first 6 is gone!

He's my angel and I never who he was all this time!

My good thing....I spent the day with a good friend who is a "young 87 "..we lunched and shopped and I met her all BECAUSE of breast cancer....I value our friendship and I certainly hope she feels the same although we are 30 yrs apart in age ! During the last yr. she has showed me how to quilt, and knit and heavens !... we have so many projects lined up ,neither of us has time to kick the bucket or feel low...I surely treasure what our common diagnosis has brought together !

I love it! From grandbaby kisses to kind friends with snow plows, from having a snow day to accomplishments at work and school, lots of good stuff.

To end my day I'm off to pick up a pizza and head over to a friend's to babysit for her daughter while she goes to a meeting. She thinks I'm doing her a favor, but my son is at his Dad's tonight, and otherwise I'd be eating and watching TV all by my lonesome.

    Sweet dreams all!

My boss's dad walked me out to my car to make sure I didn't fall on the ice, and he scraped my windows for me. My employers have been very very good to me.

Colleen, I am going to try a little technology and copy and paste too since i am pretty beat tonight!

I actually put in 4 hours of work today!  I took time off because the drain was in for a month after the new expander was placed (had a bad time with infections before).  I work retail in a dollar store and I tried not lifting anything too heavy.  I mentioned to one customer that their shopping basket was too heavy for me to lift and could she either take out the items or put it up on the counter.  I was wearing my bc pin and she asked me how long after surgery am I?  Turns out she is a 5 year survivor, had used the same set of surgeons I did and comlpetely understood.  We laughed, cried a little, exchanged phone #s and will meet at the Mother's Day 3K walk!  You never know.

Also, even with all the problems we had today with my stepson at school, when I called back to make the appt with the principal, I told the secretary I needed to move my fill appt back to 1 PM.  So of course we got to talking and she used the same ps for her TRAM flap.  Small world and a very good and caring surgeon.  I found out from the first lady that he was a pioneer in the use of alloderm and has written many papers on it.  Made me feel so good that I made the right choice in PS!

Last Friday some acquaintances held a benefit concert for me at a local bar and raised over $4000 to help with our deductables and co-pays!

People really can be great if you let them!

I recently returned to work after a year and one-half off.  And found my hand lotion, box of tea bags and Crystal Geyser water bottle (half filled with water) still on my desk!  My job share partner (who shares my desk and usually works opposite days but had covered my hours all that time) had saved it all exactly where it was when I left, even though it was obviously no longer useable.  She did assure me she wasn't drinking the water in the bottle - just watering my plant on the desk which was also still there and thriving.Laughing

I think it was lovely of her.

It is warm today, sun is out.  Sunshine makes me feel good.  Came home on Saturday after spending some time with my almost 3 granddaughter, 2 1/2 month old granddaughter, DD and DSIL.  Just got off the phone with my daughter and DGD said "I miss my Nana"

We had book club tonight at my house. I made black bean soup and chicken and cheese quesadillas, and they both actually came out pretty good!

My department re-organized yesterday, and I was taken off the team I was on (which is a good thing, as my boss was a bit crazy!) and today I was promised a re-assignment to another team (which is a great thing, as I think some contractors are being let go!)

I had a mystery shopper assignment to do on an 'emergency' basis.  That meant I had to do it, get to the UPS before they closed at 6:30.  It was a quick squeeze.  But ds came with me for company and also to use his gift card at Borders.  He used part of it for a book for me (a Joanne Fluke I had not yet read) and I came up with the extra dollar and change.  After UPS, we had Wendy's burgers and had a great time just the two of us.  We really talked.  It is great that he likes my company and I sure do enjoy his.  I got a little misty over this post.

There are Crocus and Daffodils, coming up beside the building, on the South Side. There ,too ,I see new growth on the Chrysanths and the Rudebeckia.

And yesterday I noticed, on our walk, that in a nearby street, a Star Magnolia has white-tipped, swelling buds.Oh!Already the buds look like a million  tiny stars!

My turning-15-year-old grandson made the VARSITY wrestling team!!

And look how late it is staying light! After 5!

    Hi Bethie!

This forum is actually my home away from home, for years. This and Hormone Therapy, and CAM.

Guess I've not been around much lately but this IS an historic election we're having this year! It's pretty fascinating.

I'm not much of a political talker, but, to paraphrase, I know what I like. And so have been hanging out at the political thread on this forum.AND being busy away from the computer with political stuff. So tonight I forced myself away...I'm not a figures-quoter, or a person who enjoys reading someone's collection of statistics for or against a candidate. To me it's deadly boring, since such "facts" can SO easily be manipulated.

So the "FACTS"spewers are disgusted w/me, I'm bored to tears w/them, the supporters of the OTHER Demmy candidate and I are at loggerheads galore, and well, it's just not a lot of fun.

So I came over here to join to this beautiful little thread, thank you cmb.I'm sorry to have hi-jacked so much space!
