Mosaic Knitting

I'm a new knitter within the last year.  I bought the book Knitting For Dummies off a sale table at Barnes & Noble and have taught myself to knit and perl from this book.

I would love to learn to knit with more than one color and have looked at fair isle and intarsia but the one that I really want to learn is the mosaic (or slip stitch) knitting.  Are there any experienced knitters that could help me get started?

I've knitted on and off for years, as and when the fit takes me, find it very relaxing, but never heard of mosaic knitting.

Fair isle yes, I love this, but mosaic? you've got me hereSmile

Isabella, its also called 'slip stitch' knitting.  I finally bought the book on Mosaic Knitting by Barbara Walker.

Holy cow, I just realized this question is a few months old.  Oh well, I'm new to Breast Cancer, so this site wasn't even on my radar a few months ago.

I've done both Mosaic and Fair Isle.  I prefer the Fair Isle.  Mosaic takes MUCH longer and it the fabric is denser.  How do you like the book?  Do you like the process?  I'm feverishly knitting fair isle ear-flap hats for Christmas.  It is a fine activity whilst recovering from a partial mastectomy and waiting for rads to begin.

    My best.  Barbie

I have knitted for probably 6 years now and love the results of taking a skein of yarn and turning it into something.  Knitting was my saving grace during my cancer.  I have never heard of Mosaic knitting, but I do know there are many books out there that can get you just about anywhere you want to go, and if that doesn't work, look for a yarn shop close, and get involved in their classes, you will learn lots!

Were you the one Jaz, who showed Neesie how to crochet something at Pinkstock?

Susan, yes that was me.  I showed Neesie how to do Tunisian crochet or the afgan crochet.  I also do regular crochet as well as knitting now too.  I would be happy to show anyone who would like to learn.

I have found wonderful patterns on Lion Brand Yarn's website, www.lionbrand.com.  There are a few others as well but that is the best so far.  I have not gotten the courage to try fair isle or intarsia yet!  I am ok with the basics and one color!  I am making a sweater now for my niece that has a few stripes but that is all.  Been crocheting since I was a young teen but knitting only the past 2 years.
