can mom take arimidex or another one after 5 yrs

    hi,

    my mom has been on me to ask can you keep taking arimidex or a pill like that after 5 yrs are up?

    she is scared. she has been on arimidex 4 yrs . her friend went off hers and it came back to her pancreas she passed . mom is scared something like that will happen to her.

    please give me some advice to give her.

    Hi tawyna....Not only are there several clinical trials looking at more prolonged use of AIs, we have several women on this board who have been on their AIs, with their oncologists blessings, for up to 10 years. It seems to me that the trick might be convincing your mother's onc to continue to prescribe. Some will, some won't, so I say find one who will. And of course she should be very vigilant about having her bone density scans and employing good bone health practices.

    Tell her not to worry....it's happening more & more.

    this will make her feel so much better.

    she always worries.

    i believe he will continue to give her one of them.

    she is good at convincing.
