For those starting chemo in June

Yes, Mary, That has to be so uncomfortable. Did he happen to tell you how long it takes the meds to kick in and work? I know you are so tired of all this. Start getting better .... only a year left before our big reunion!!!!!!!!! Or should I say our meeting since some of us have not met before, so I guess it is not a reunion. lol
-
Hey Girls, Janie, he said it may not go down and he didn't know how long this last. I will wait a few months if it doesn't get any worse. He said the surgery may not even stop this problem. He said some get it out but they still have this problem along with all the surgerical problems and possible no voice. I get real jittery now because it is causing too much thyroid harmone and I am on thyroid harmone. He did tell me to stay with the new low dose. Oh well, it will get better or worse. Not much I can do but wait. I am looking forward to our meeting too. Well, I hope you all had a good wk. I bet it was nice having Christmas in your new house Janie. Anymore dates? P.J. Hows things with Mom? It is getting cold here again and maybe snow after 69 temps. The ground should be too warm for it to stick. Well I better get going. Have a good day girls. Hugs, Mary
-
Mary, I do hope all goes well and it goes down and you began to feel better. We have passed a nasty stomach virus around. My middle child got it just prior to moving to Baltimore. My oldest got it and finally me. I am still queasy but very weak. Also, I was keeping my son's beagle a couple of weeks until he settles in his digs in Baltimore. He had to be taken to be animal hospital this morning. Had a fast growing tumor that ruptured and they called Patrick and recommended he be put to sleep, which he was. He was almost 15 years old, so it was rough on all of us.
Hope all is well with everyone. Later gals, Janie
-
Gosh Janie, hope you get back to feeling good soon. Sorry to hear about the dog. Thats like loosing a family member. I heard there are all kinds of flu going around. I am getting ready to run to the store. I went to the E.R. yesterday because I had some palpatations in the night. They have a halter mon. on me until tonight. My heart looked o.k. all day yesterday and I mean all day. They kept me from 9 a.m. until 6p.m. Probably this thyroid. I am just really nerveous if I should get it out or not. Well, hope your back up to snuff soon Janie. I wonder what "up to snuff" means? I wonder if one day some guy said "I am so sick I can't use my snuff" and his friend said "I hope your back "up to snuff soon"? Just a bit tooo much time on my hands Huh? Again Janie, get well and sorry about the dog. Wow, Baltimore is a long way. Hugs, Mary
-
Hey, Thanks Mary. Hope you steadily improve. The virus part is much better, but I have a colonoscopy scheduled in the morning so I have been on fluids for two days (this after being sick for two). I am having to drink this yucky stuff tonight and then another whole liter of clear liquids before midnight. I am the type who can keep one glass of tea all day and still have some left over, so this is rough. Later girls, Janie
-
OK, girls, you both need to be getting better. Mary, I hate those monitors. I had one once; what a pain in the patootie. And, Janie, boy, you know how to have a good time.
Anything happen with your NY Eve date?
I'm recovering from a cold, but went on my horseback riding lesson even when I shouldn't have. Old, slow and fat. The horse, that is, not me. It was fun.
Couple sisters coming in in a couple weekend to celebrate my mom's birthday. Can't wait. -
Hi Girls, P.J. sounds like you will be having a great time with your sisses. Your mom will be happy to have all of ya there too. Have a great time. Janie, hope your back to normal. Well I bit the bullet and had all the rest of my teeth out yesterday. Ouch, I know I will feel so much better now, once the pain is gone. Now to get the thyroid under control. Well it is 3 degrees and it may be lower with wind chill. I think they were saying we are to get -16 with wind chill over the next few days. Gosh, I hate this weather. Hope you all are warm. Have a good wk. end. Hugs, Mary
-
Hey, Mary I know how much dental work hurts. Hope the pain is gone by now. I am much better thanks. Had my tests done a few days ago. They looked at both ends -- the colon and the esophagus. Everything is AOK, just a little gastritis. It has been snowing here! My son's flight was delayed. He is in the air as we speak...on the way to Michigan. Nothing like going from cold to colder I guess. Everyone stay warm and pain-free. Catch you all later. J
THe phone just rung. My son is just now boarding! I thought he was calling to tell me he was there already. He was supposed to leave a little after nine. It is 10:18. I guess it will take longer than that to get there, but he had already called from the airport and I thought he was boarding shortly at that time.
-
Hey all, Glad everything is good Janie. Boo on the gastritis, I get it from eating out sometimes. Thats an uncomfortable way to ride home 30 miles! Shew; theres a storm I can live without! I now get all my meat(when I eat out) "well done". I am in less pain Janie, I had 5 teeth pulled in back. 2 on one side and 3 on the other( I don't get put to sleep in the dentist office). Wow, I didn't think they were going to turn lose of my bone! I am just really glad that is all done. I think my thyroid is shrinking a little. I also think I may have some stomach problems causing some of my throat feeling swelled because I am noticing it comes and goes. I also feel a lot of pain and stormy feeling in my upper chest. I have been taking mylanta and I think it helps a little. I have stayed away from carbonated drinks also. I think I may be on the road to feeling better. Hope everyone has a good day off. Hugs, burrrr!!!! Mary
-
Mary, maybe the teeth problem will help the alleviate the throat and thyroid problems. I know teeth can reek much more havoc than we realize. They make me take antibiotics before they will so much as clean my teeth. They keep trying to save my teeth. Sometimes I am tempted to have them all pulled and be done with it, especially when I see how much it will cost to "fix" them after Taxol. All these "wellness" appointments are really eating into my time and my pocketbook. The new year just started with the new deductible that I have already met!!!!
BTW- the New Year's Eve guy. It was fun but I am not serious about anybody and in fact will be going out with someone I have seen off and on for a year or so this coming weekend. I have been single for a long time and am set in my ways. I like not having to compromise on every little thing. I don't know if I could stand to live with someone at this point. Things get complicated when you are old and have grown children etc. I do not know if I want to deal with some of the problems I see in my line of work.
Hugs, Janie
-
Hey girls, Yea Janie I hear on the cost of trying to save your teeth. I had $5,000.00 done after treatment. I had bonding and I don't know what all and it was all gone in a year. I wasn't going down the capping 9 teeth and making another partial. That was $7,000.00. My roots were bare because my gums receeded after treatment so eating sweets or drinking cold things just about made me pee my pants. They would have had to bond the roots again and that just chips off in about a year so I just feel like for me this is best. I feel like when the pain is gone this will feel soo much better. I have mastered the art of pureeing my food so that it taste half way good. Pureeing it takes the flavor out, yuk! Hope everyone had a good wk. end. We have been inside all wk. end staying warm. This freezing weather sucks big time. Hi P.J. and N.L. Hugs, Mary
-
Mary, I think you will feel much better when the pain is gone. I started the Diet 4 Idiots three days ago. Named that because you do not have to count calories or fat grams etc. It is actually not bad. You just have to stick to the list but quanitities are not limited. Of course you cannot go crazy, but it isvery satisfying and high protein so it makes you feel energetic. Hope all are well and warm. Hugs, Janie
-
Good Luck on the diet Janie, I thought I would lose a pound or 2 eating mush but NOPE! I have stayed right around 144 since treatment ended and I have acccepted that 128lbs. will never be again. Kinda glad too because I can't afford to buy new clothes again. Have to help hubby so have a good day girls. Hugs, Mary
-
Thanks Mary, I was on this one before but things got in the way. It does work if you do stick with it. It is rated among the top 4. Actually very easy to follow. Don't know why I went off of it. One thing when it generates the individual diet for you to download, you have to go to the store a lot to get the items. This time, I am simply looking at the food groups included and choosing items from the entire list instead of following what they say so exactly. It is still working and much easier to plan and do this way.
It is going to turn cold here again tonight. Heat wave (40's) is over. I have a very rough couple of weeks coming up at school. A zillion referrals are falling on me.
A teacher, a close friend of mine, had a mammogram that "caused the doctor concern." She just eloped last weekend and came back to this. I do hope and pray she does not have to join this club.
You know how on some web sites the curser automatically goes to into the little block for password (or user name) once you log in? Well, the one here does not do that. Being in the height of laziness, this annoys me to take that extra step of clicking on it an extra time. lol
Hugs to all, "fixin" to get out of here. It is 6:10 a.m. EST.
Janie

Janie, hope your friend gets nothing but good news....
And, Mary, will you please keep your awful cold weather up there? I mean, for heaven's sake, we might get freezing rain in the morning. And my sister is supposed to be flying in. Now, how hospitable is that?
So, I managed to get over the horseback riding aches that came from my fancy riding this weekend..... Finally. I'm sure my friend and I look like complete goofs up in the saddle. But it's fun, if you ignore the fact that you know you'll be sore for days. But it's good for me, I suppose.
How are you feeling Mary? -
Hey P.J. I love to ride horses. We rode when I was young but theres no way now. I would jolt my bones righr outta my body. Well it would be hard on my neck. Hey I am tired of this cold. It is a#s bitting cold. Your lungs burn when you walk out the door. It is however going to get into the upper 30's and 40's come the wk. end(break out the bathing suits!). I am feeling better thanks, now that the tooth pain is subsided. My thyroid seems better off and on. They are doing an Echo on my heart and bone density next wk. along with cholesterol check so I should be good to go soon. Gosh when that thyroid puts out too much harmone it is awful. I feel so jittery its like I am on something and it won't stop. My mind races. I feel like I need to get out and run. I hate it. I would rather be low than high. Gosh; I tried to share my weather and you don't like it. Hope it clears up for your sisters. Good luck for your friend Janie. Gotta get sup-sup on. Hugs and BURRRRR!!!! Mary
-
Hi girls,
Having a great time with my sisters. We're going to my mother in law's for dinner tonight. I'm going to be just about over my craving for Mexican food for the next few months. I'll have had it three times in three days....
Just saw "There Will Be Blood." Very disturbing movie. Great acting, but.... I'd have rather gone to see "Juno." -
Hey P.J. glad your haveing a great time. Hope the weather is nice. We are warming up. Hope Janie and Nancy Lee have a great wk. end. Hugs, Mare
-
Hey ladies, PJ I think I would rather see Juno too. Hey NL. Mary, how are you feeling by now?
I went to the optometrist for a new contact prescript. Making a long story short, he referred me to the ophalomologist (sp) who informed me that I have acute angle closure glaucoma and it is severe. He pulled no punches and told me if pressure built up all at once and it swelled, I could lose my vision. I think he thought I was not excited enough, so he really laid it on the line. There is a laser treatment that will rectify the situation and I will have it Thursday afternoon. I wanted to wait until I am off on President's Day, but my son insisted I have it right away, soo..... what they do is drill a hole in the iris to let it drain and relieve the pressure. All I wanted was a new contact prescription.....
It was freezing here this morning, but nice now and will be for the next few days.
Have a good week girls,
Hugs, Janie
-
Good luck on Thursday, Janie. Just what you needed. I've been delaying my visit to the opthalmologist since my vision has changed and is still changing with chemo and my contact lenses and glasses no longer do the job. I think I'd better make an appointment.
-
Hey Janie, I will be with you as all of us will. I am so glad they can do something. I went a month ago because I am getting blinder up close and get eye pains and my sister has glaucoma and I thought I better get checked. My eyes haven't been the same since chemo either. I am fine, just needed a #250 lense instead of #125 for reading. I went to Walmart and bought glasses. They were $9.00 and the eye Doc. wanted $175 and I lose them and sit on them. I have to have cheap ones. I have to have them on to see my food now but my distance is 20/20(at arms length). Well again good luck and I am so sorry you have to go through this. I am glad you listened to your son. You can't wait on this, it isn't worth it. Gosh, Good Luck. Hugs, Mary
-
Hey ladies. Thanks. Yeah, my eyes went bad (worse) during chemo too. Didn't get much better without stronger lenses either. So I guess whatever damage it does is permanent. Talk with you guys later. Hugs, Janie
-
Wow, Janie, I've been off the boards for a few days and look what happened. You went and had a procedure! I hope you're feeling OK and recovering quickly.
I was gonna say, aren't you allowed to smoke pot for glaucoma? Oh, and I read somewhere about a drug for glaucoma that thickens people's lashes. (I'm hoping for some of that, since I basically have no lashes or brows anymore)
Hugs Janie. Mary, stay warm and hope you're feeling better. What's up with the thyroid these days? How's the treatment plan going?
Hey to Nancy.... -
Hi All. Everything went fine. He is only doing one eye at a time. Compared to what we have been through, this was a piece of cake. I go back next Friday. My vision will be blurred for a few days and I have to put drops in 4 x a day so I guess I will be wearing the ol glasses for a few days. It watered profusely for a few hours and now it just feels a little weak. He said the good thing is that once this has been done it takes care of the problem. Never have to do it again. Later,
Janie
-
Glad all went well Janie, also glad you only have to do this once on both sides. We have about 7 inches of snow and it is still snowing. Gosh, I hate this. Mon. it is going to get up to 50. Thank God! P.J. my thyroid was better until I forgot my pills 2 days so it is a little big again but back on them, thanks. Hmmmm, I think I coulda used pot when I went through treatment. I forgot about that, shoot. Later girls. Hi N.L. Hugs, Mary
-
Thanks ladies. PJ, I do not know about the pot, but it sounds inviting! I am a child of the 60's (baby boomer) and never have had any!!!! Maybe it is time.
Thanks Mary. I hope you get that thyroid under control and you get over it. Chronic conditions are not fun. But you knew that already. Later
Janie
-
Hey girls, we are relaxing and going to watch the football game today. Hope everyone had a good wk. end. How is your sisters visit P.J.? Janie, hope your eye is healing good. Hi to N.L. Hugs, Mary
-
Hi, girls,
Mary, my visit with my sisters was just wonderful. They're so different, but so fun and smart. And my third sister just sold her house today! We're hoping she might get a job down here in Texas...
Rode a horse today, made some delicious pizza. All in all, a wonderful weekend.
Hugs to you all,
Paula -
Good Morning All,
PJ, you go girl! Sounds like you are really enjoying yourself and your family.Do you ride much? Seems like being a Texas cowgirl and all......
Mary, the eye is better all the time. I will be glad to be rid of the drops after today and hopefully back in contacts for a few days starting tomorrow until Friday when we do it again
I do not know who you wanted to win the Super Bowl, but I am one happy camper. Since my man Peyton could not be in it this year, I was pulling for little brother to pull off the upset, and that he did!
Hugs, Janie
-
Glad you had a good time with the sisters P.J. and you go cowgirl. Janie I knew you would be rooting for Ely. I was glad to see N.Y. win because they were the underdogs and N.E. would have been nice too to top a perfect season which is rare. I really didn't have a choice. N.L. said hi. Hugs, Mary
