Dont you wonder about her recommendations for soy and flaxseed in ER+ women though?  Seems she is running counter popular opinion.

Joann, it's not popular opinion she is running against. It is medical fact.

But WE arent "normal" women, for whom his was written.

Soy and flaxseed are NOT GOOD for ***estrogen + bc survivors!***

The only useful and true book I have on health (after BC) s called

The Breast Cancer Diet, by Dr Jack Arnot.

I HIGHLY recommend it.He covers every possible issue of what to eat or not.

And explains things like "Soy oil isnt good for you.NOT because it's SOY oil, but because it is polyunsaturated oil, not mono(olive, canola oils)"

I never knew who JA was, but now he is my hero.

He, and Dr Susan Love are the only ones who tell t like it is, for US.

    Joan

I think you are referring to Dr Bob Arnot.

Dr. Susan Love--A little too much truth for me to take--that is one book

I  stay out of for my mental health --certainly tells it like it is

Yeah, I have Dr. Love's book too.  My daughter gave it to me shortly after I was dxd.  I couldn't pick it up for a while.  When I finally did I had to stop reading it.  I also have Breast Cancer for Dummies book. LOL  I don't read ANY of them anymore.

It took me a while to even get on the internet.  I wanted my head in the sand for a while.  I JUST couldn't take it.  My mental health was really at risk!  So, Susie, I know what you mean.

Joan, you are one brave, strong woman!

    Thank you, Susie!!Yes, Bob Arnot.

Susie and Shirley, I have only browsed through Susan Love.Looking up things like rib pain (costochondroitis). And femara problems, which my book doesnt have much on, the AIs being ahem too new.Stuff like that.

Bit she DOES tell it like it is for us, and I rust her implicitly.I would look up flaxseed in SL before I took Joe Blow's advioce to eat t.

But girls!DO read Bob Arnot! He is amazing! All bases are covered, andhe is a fund of knowledge jist for s!

I have Susun Weed's "Breast Cancer, Breast Health".I've been a fan of hers for years, and lOVED her Menopause the Wise Woman Way.I get her monthly e-newsletter.She is a herbalist du rigeur.

But--Breast Cancer Breast Health--I have too much respect for her to throw it out, but I nevr read it.She doesnt know about es+ bc.

And she holds for natural cures, herbs, the right food(lots of greens)

She hasthe goodness to address every option-should we opt for rads (she opposes), she will tell us how to support ourselves through it.

    Same chemo.

    Same HT.(She only knows Tamox)

But I dont want this about my BC.I had "BAD" BC, not Sheryl Crowe  bc.And I want to hear "This chemo is great! It will save your life! You will never be sick again! There IS no option" instead of how bad for the bod bc tx is for us.THAT is not helpful.

And you know how much I love herbs & suppliments.

(But I feel certain that if Susanne Sommers had bad bc, she would NOT have taken European Mistletoe shots instead of good old bad chemo!)

Anyway, check out Bob Arnot! He's great on this! And even tells you what to eat to lose the weight, to recall the strength, to get the antioxidents.

    love, j

    Joan of Ardmore,

Christine Horner does indeed recommed soy and flax and brevail for ER+ women.  As far as I know there are no good studies proving or disproving this is good/bad for ER+ women, it is speculation.

This is the most current study for anyone who hasn't seen it regarding flax and soy:  http://www.flaxhealth.com/breastcancerupdate.htm

    http://www.flaxhealth.com/breastcancer.htm

It's my opinion that the reason the Budwig Protocol has been successful is it's use of organic flax oil and seed, not to mention the strict diet.

    Happy reading!

    Lisa,

Thanks that is cool.  So almost 2 tablespoons flax per day for ER+ and it sounds like ditch the soy?

    Thanks,

    Joanne

    Dear Joanne,

I'm not an opponent of soy in moderation and non GMO and organic.  Fermented soy is best from what I've researched, the way the Asian people eat it.  The flax seeds should be organic and freshly ground.  They go rancid quickly.  Must be refrigerated.  The whole seed is hard to chew because it is small and flat.  I use Barleans flax oil with my cottage cheese (Budwig Protocol).  I'm sure there are many great brands out there.  Enjoy!

    Lisa,

I do have organic already ground flax which I refrigerate, hopefully that is good enough.

I understand lots of soy is GMO and non-organic.  Does the non-GMO say it on the label? From what I hear there is a controversy about whole soy, but most say don't use the soy derivatives like veggie burgers though I do occasionally have one.
