I second that recommendation for Juno. The lead character is smart-mouthed in a very lovable and entertaining way. And the ending is just the sweetest ever....and probably not what you'll think!

I am bumping this up since I can't find the other movie thread from last year.

    Loved Alvin and the Chipmunks.

Looking forward to seeing The Bucket List even though ds let out the ending by accident.  I love Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman.  Should we just hand over the oscars now?

If you're looking for the old thread, it's over on "Growing Friendships..." along with the books everyone is reading. But since I'm here, I'll second the recommendation to see "Waitress." If you're in a more realistic, serious mood, "The Kite Runner" was also good, as was "A Mighty Heart" which is now out on DVD too.

2 weeks? Sally field. A story about the end of life. Very tastefully done. FYI only.

do not rent if feeling in a sad mood.

Then on the other hand...DragonFly with Kevin Costner...life after death..very good!!!

Took the day off yesterday to celebrate my 59th birthday and 1 year anniversary from bc diagnosis. Last birthday I spent with pre-admission testing at the hospital prior to my lumpectomy. Went to a matinee and can't recommend enough how great The Bucket List was...touching and uplifting. I would definitely see it again..but maybe after seeing Juno. Then celebrated with family at happy hour. Daughter/son-in-law sent me a great gift yesterday...nine dinners and a yummy dessert, Hazelnut Royale (6 desserts)from www.homebistro.com. Each dinner is individually wrapped and frozen. These dinners are chef-prepared. My beautiful daughter knew in advance that my freezer is never full. Hope we all celebrate these joyful moments in our life.

    59 and holding....Bernadette

Here's an odd recommendation. You know how sometimes you are going to rent something and your sweetie has been really good about geting what you want the last couple of times? And you know you really ought to be generous and cheerfully agree to a 'guy movie' - an action, shoot-em-up, good chase-scene flick?

Well, go for The Shooter. Mark Wahlberg with his shirt off is almost enough in and of itself to see this movie (fanning self), but it actually has a plot and not too many gaping holes in logic/reasoning. He is a retired top-notch sniper wooed out of retirement by the higher-ups in Washington (Danny Glover) to help prevent an assassination plot against the president. Of course, it turns out not to be that simple.

Watch the special feature at the end of the DVD (I never do this) on how Mark trained for the role and discovered he had an outstanding natural ability as a sniper.

Your guy will love it and you get some eye candy and a decent movie.

Well, I can tell you what movie you might NOT want to see and that is Bucket List.  Actually, it's a very good movie but the cancer dx and scences of s/e's with treatment are too real for most of us, I would think.  Still, Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson are very, very good and the movie leaves you with an upbeat sort of feeling.

Secondhand Lions (was on TV the other night)--weird but very good

Charlie Wilson's War--funny, very good (too true)
